Nice post.. didnt realise there were so many available to sideload... including a porn channel for ATV!! :p

i found this on reddit

https://github.com/hamishtaplin/tvos-resources

It shows the apps you can sideload on the new Apple TV

If you know anymore apps post them here

Edit:

Doing a search on github for tvos shows 240 results
So I guess this thread should be post sideload apps you recommend
https://github.com/search?o=desc&p=1&q=tvos&s=updated&type=Repositories&utf8=✓

Bear in mind though that a lot of that stuff on GitHub will be complete tosh. There will be empty ones, some where people are just testing things out and so on. You'd have to dig through to find any that are worthwhile.

Nice. I side loaded MAME. I need a proper controller, but it worked. I'm REALLY hoping someone does it for Stella (Atari 2600 emulator). But there are a lot of possibilities.

I hope somebody makes a Chromecast receiver app. Frankly I find Chromecast's method better than AirPlay for playing Youtube on a TV since your phone is disconnected once playback starts.

Excuse me but what are you talking about??? If i AirPlay YouTube from my telephone to ATV4 i can close, lock my telephone and the stream is still on.
Because AirPlay don't work in that way you think it does. When you use material thats on internet the telephone tells the ATV what adress it should stream from.
But if you use local stored material on your phone it stops when you close the app or lock the phone.

Maybe you have better luck then me, but Airplaying content from my phone to my ATV3/4 is very unpredictable. It sometime stops when my screen locks, usually stops when I switch apps, and always restricts what I can do on my phone while casting. On the other hand my Chromecast is flawlessly predictable at how redirected content performs. It is also cross platform.
That said I don't want to go down a rabbit hole arguing AirPlay vs Chromecast. I do prefer my ATV and would love to disconnect my Chromcast from my system.
Suffice it to say that would find a Chromecast reciever app to be very useful for my needs.

I see you still dont understand how AirPlay works when you talk about "content from my phone"
Did i just not tell you that material thats locally stored on you telephone are AirPlayed to ATV and you need to have the app open. But when AirPlay with Safari,YouTube from internet you can close the app because the material doesn't go through the telephone.
Your request will never be fulfilled.

That doesn't seem to be the case, Lappen71, no matter how strongly you insist. I too get my airplay stream of youtube and other streaming video interrupted when i lock the phone, or switch apps. It is rather annoying and definitely not as reliable as chromecast, in my experience.

Make sure your phone and the ATV are on the same frequency wifi.

Either 5ghz or 2.4..... DO NOT mix them.

Same wifi, same frequency... then pull the power to both modem and ATV and reboot, modem first then ATV second... all fixed.

If I airplay from my Mac to my ATV4 and the display goes off airplay stops, so I see where he is coming from. No idea why but it's the way it is for me.

While the YouTube app has gotten more reliable with AirPlay, I still prefer not to have it installed. If it is installed, Safari on iOS9 forces you to use it. I find that the YouTube web site on iOS is better than the app, for my needs. Mostly because Safari remembers where a video left off, so I can easily return to the same point. Also, as of recently the YouTube app does not play in the background on my phone (I think requires a Red account now). Unfortunately Airplaying YouTube from Safari is not as consistent with AirPlay.
My solution has been to use the Chrome browser when I want to use my Chromecast, since support is built in.
This is not about fixing AirPlay. Since even in the best case, it will not be cross platform. So for now I need to have both devices available. I want a Chromecast reciviver app on tvOS to simplify my set up. There is no point is telling me that I don't need it.

Use a different YouTube app like tubex and mctube or Protube
Much better apps

I dont need to insist because i dont care what you think.
But i´m tempted to make a video to prove you wrong.

Can you explain why Youtube streams stop, if I airplay from my Mac to the ATV4 and the display sleeps? That shouldn't happen surely?

I´m more curious why you don´t use the YouTube app on ATV instead.
But the answer is i don´t know why that happens for you.

Nobody here said that it was an issue for you. It was more about you saying that this shouldn't be an issue for anyone else.

And i did not say it´s not and issue for anybody else.
I oppose to how err404 describe his problem that´s a expected behavior how AirPlay works.
If it not work as expected its´something wrong with hardware, software.

I'm not aware of making such a claim. I explicitly stated that it is inconsistent and that even if it worked 100% of the time it still would limit me from doing something on my phone that plays a video and would not be cross platform. I truly don't understand why you find somebody else wanting to use a Chromecast so offensive.
I don't need work arounds and it's not worth troubleshooting an issue that would only resolve some of my needs. It is easy for me to change inputs to my Chromecast when needed.
A Chromecast reciever app would simplify my tv's inputs. That is all I want.
