Got an email too. Mine says shipment date: June 18th. Delivers by Jun 22. I hope that's not true :)

At least I have a tracking # now.

Mine just went from prepared to shipped... Got a tracking number too, although not active yet.

I got an email saying:

Thanks for starting your iPhone purchase online. To finish the process, come to your nearest Apple Retail Store and look for a Concierge in an orange shirt. We'll help you complete your purchase, activate your new iPhone, and set it up for you. Find a store

Even though it should be shipped to me by tomorrow! What gives?

Did you get this shipped to your home? That's weird.

It delivers by June 19th, just shipped... so it must be coming from somewhere in the USA.

Whew, I just got my shipment notification. I was starting to wonder if I'd see it this week. I saw posts of people who ordered after me, getting notified about shipment and my status just sat there as "not shipped"

Since the arrival date is tomorrow I hope that's correct and fed-ex doesn't screw up, I'll work from home and I'll have a new phone :) If not it will be here next week

Bought it Tuesday before the cutoff, still "prepared for shipment" :( hopefully it'll be put on a truck this afternoon. If not, no phone till Monday

Co-worker just got a shipping confirmation about 10 minutes ago, he ordered 3 days after me haha... I still have "Prepared for Shipment"

Still prepared for shipment. Not at all worried, still plenty of time to overnight stuff to anywhere in the US.

I am also in the "Prepared for Shipping" purgatory queue. Apparently it has taken five days to wrap it in bubble wrap and put it in a box. I am guessing that most of our iPhones are just going to pop up in the system with destination scans in the US.

That's true, I ordered a Kindle DX the day it was announced, and didn't get a shipping notice until 12am the day it was supposed to be delivered, then 10 hours later FedEX strolled up to my door.

Mine went from Prepared for Shipping to having a tracking number just this morning. I also just received the email, which states delivery by the 19th, as apposed to what the web site has said.

same here, happened 15 min ago

Still prepared for shipment.

Hoping for delivery tomorrow. But damn I'll be pissed if I see those who ordered late get theirs but those of us who ordered 8-9th somehow got thrown into a glitch.

Why overnight orders put in a week ago?

More expensive. Lower the prices some and use 2-3 day shipping instead.

Apple gets a lot of press for people standing in lines on launch days. It is worth it to them to make sure that continues to happen. Waiting to the last moment to ship stock already in the country allows them to be as sure as possible that early deliveries don't accidentally happen. If we got ours early by accident than future product releases may see more people opting to buy online rather than wait in lines.

That is one reason for pre-ordering and having it held at a store, those people will get them earlier than us, thus they are willing to wait in a 'special' line.

The real question is the UPS shipments from China. Those are in much more danger of an actual early delivery, as UPS isn't nearly as good at that as FedEx is. I'm curious if these phones are selling quite a bit more than Apple expected. Especially since it seems their entire USA allotment was sold in about 24 hours or so. (excluding what they are holding for being in stock in retail locations of course)

Apple's US allotment wasn't sold out in 24 hours. Where did you get that information?

Apparently you haven't noticed that people who have been waiting for shipping notifications in threads like this ordered their phones on Monday or Tuesday?

Starting with people reporting ordering later on Tuesday the rest have all shipped from China directly.

Obviously Apple stockpiled some units in the US. One question to be asked was whether the amount stocked was limited by manufacturing, or if they had an estimate on what they expected sales to be and had already stockpiled that. Of course we don't know which of those is the case.

But it is fairly obvious that between what is being held for retail locations and what was ordered online that the entire stock of phones already in the US have been marked as 'sold.' Otherwise why start shipping units from China?
