It'll go away in about a week.
I was planning to exchange mine, but after reading about all the QC issues that are rampant on this forum, I am thinking I might just stick with what I have.
Most people got good iPads....
i definitely agree with this. and i also thing that some people who found fault with theirs were practically looking under a microscope to find something. i'm pretty sure that the legitimate issues make up even less than the 14ish% in that poll.
They way I see it, 14% of Macrumors members had problems, that translates to less that 1% of normal people....
Seriously, these forums are a magnet for people seeking help with problems. It's like saying 14% of people in the hospital are sick. Well duh!!!!
I think you are right. See my pole here. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1343992/
iPads being mass produced in such ultra high quantities, there's bound to be some issues. As I see it, as long as Apple takes care of it, that's all that matters. The number of defective units is somewhat irrelevant unless they represent a big portion of production. Apples secrecy will no doubt shield those facts from anyone other than a select few within the company.
Apples reputation for taking care of things is good with just a few exceptions, so I doubt that this problem will grow larger. With Apple quite quick to perform exchanges or replacements, I believe that this will take care of people's concerns. It's only the inconvenience that will put some off.
Of the three iPads I bought, one was very yellow over the entire expanse of the display. You didn't have to look close or at any particular angle. It was seriously affected, the moment I began to use it, the discoloration was just horrible. I immediately took it in for a genius to view, his reaction was as surprised as mine.
Side by side with an unaffected iPad3 there was no question. They replaced it and the new one is just as nice as the other two I have. Not a hint of discoloration.
It appears to be viewing angle related rather than any other sort of defect, at least on my screen.
When viewed straight on, it's perfect. In portrait at an angle, the top 1/3 or so starts to shift towards being slightly greenish-yellow. Strangely, this seems to be directional, as it changes to the bottom 1/3 if I flip it over. (and largely disappears due to the angle I usually hold it)
I suspect that people complaining of it either being the left or right side, are using their iPad horizontally and/or are not holding it central in their vision, or are at an angle to it.
The LCD panel is not bonded to the glass, so I doubt it is adhesive. I believe the cause for this is a switch from IPS to Samsung's IPS-like Super PLS displays:

As you can see here, IPS displays tend to lose more brightness & contrast at an angle, and shift towards blue. As previous iPad displays were already somewhat blue, this was less noticeable than a white screen going somewhat greenish-yellow.
Here is my iPad 2 (left) compared with the new iPad to show that the old IPS panels were indeed somewhat blue:

Unfortunately, I couldn't get a good photo showing what the displays were like at an angle.

That's good you got a new one. Can you post photo of old yellow screen?
i just returned mine today due to the uneven tint. i'm not one of those people who goes looking for something to complain about, but the tint was beyond what i'd consider acceptable.
