My first 64g AT&T unit had top 1/3 (portrait) so yellow that one side of keyboard keys were tannish and other side gray. Also somewhat dim. Called Apple Care yesterday and they said they had not heard anything about yellow screens and suggested I make appt. with local Genius Bar. Went in for appt. and they said they thought it would be better to just have me return/buy new one through salesperson and said they had not encountered this issue before. Somehow I find this hard to believe. I took my iPad 2 with bright white screen in for comparison. It looked like all the iPads on display. The only yellowish display I saw in the store was mine. I will say that it was harder to see the extent of yellow tinting under the Apple store lighting. Rebought the VZW 64g model. It has a brighter screen but is still much more yellow than my iPad 2 or store models. On this unit, it is the right side or home button end that has the tinting that is observable in the keyboard. I am running it on full brightness today and will try the towel trick mentioned in another thread tonight to see if it clears up. If i don't see vast improvement in a week, I guess I will return it again and either wait a month or two or try one last time. This has been one big hassle.

Sorry, what is the towel trick? I can't find the post.

EDIT: I did see someone claim they wrapped in a blanket.

I've got the same thing going on with mine - that I just recently noticed. It's not anywhere close to the whole screen, just the top left corner when holding it in portrait. I THINK it's getting better, but it's annoying enough that if it doesn't correct itself in the next week or so, I'll be taking at trip to the Apple Store too.

I have a yellow-ish area in the top corner as well, I'm not sure whether to take it in yet or not, I guess i'll wait another week to see if it clears

Sucks to have to post this. After 5 days of flawless performance (no hot battery issues) I was beginning to believe I had actually received a perfect iPad. However, I am noticing that the sides of the screen when viewed in portrait mode have a noticeably more yellow tint than the center of the screen.

It is most noticeable when surfing the web in landscape mode. When looking at google search results and scrolling down the results at the bottom of the screen look really yellow, almost as if the screen was dirty.

I'm going to try to run the screen at full brightness for some time and see if it goes away. If not, it's definitely noticeable enough to warrant a return/exchange. But seriously, ergh.

Yeah, I thought it was a towel. Been running mine pretty much all day on 100% bright and not seeing drying results yet. Sure is running very warm, though. Really hoping the blanket trick works. I don't want to have to go through hassle of return at Apple store again. I really can't believe the entire situation. And I really don't understand people who get on these threads and accuse posters of being anal or OCD. I truly am happy your screens are perfect! I just can't seem to get a unit without a gradual yellow tint on one or other end of screen. It's distracting. I spent just shy of $1000 on the new iPad (including AppleCare) and expect a quality screen. That's all. If every display in the Apple store is bright white and evenly tinted, I want mine to be the same way. Nothing wrong with that.

Mine is yellowish on top where the FaceTime camera is/wifi AT&T status bar but the rest is fine white..I assume the main board/CPU A5X is located where the left bottom/under the apple logo that's why it's more white due to the heat heating up the screen making the "glue/resin" go away and notas much heat is going to the upper left of the ipad..I still have like 10 days to return it..my first 16GB 4G didn't have any issues but when I swapped it for 32GB due to 16GB was not doing it for my use I'm getting dead pixels/yellowing..I'm on my second swap..if it don't go away in a couple of days I'm just going to refund and get my money back and back to my iPad 2 for a while...I'm going to run it on all night and heat it up and see..

Are you guys new iPads getting yellowing mostly on top where the FaceTime camera is at?

And I really don't understand people who get on these threads and accuse posters of being anal or OCD.

Its a difference of expectations and standards of quality, theirs is significantly lower and we cant blame them. Though for sure most of them see the issue on their screens and everyday its a mental battle for them ignore the issue, they claim that if someone keeps on returning the devices it will drive prices up.. I dont think so, what happens if people get complacent about the issues is that quality control drops. Look at how superamoled is doing right now.

When viewing in portrait, mine is yellow tinted in the upper left corner. I really hope this goes away because it is becoming more annoying everyday. I really don't want to risk greeting it exchanged.

I have been noticing a red tint on the top of the screen (where facetime camera is). It is about half of the screen. I am going to wait a week or so to see if it goes away. I got the apple care so I am not worried.

They aren't though, in all the Apple Stores I've been to, the lighting has a yellowish hue, as with most artificial lighting. This counterbalances the warmth of the iPad screens on display so you can't really pick it out as being obvious.

They're also all at full brightness, so you would never see whether the backlighting is truly even or not, especially in the very bright atmosphere of the Apple Store.

You are looking for a level of perfection that does not exist.

I disagree. I took my iPad 2 plus the new iPad (both white) to my local Apple Store and compared with all the white new iPads on the floor. I turned both of my units Settings on to full brightness and auto bright just like floor models. The floor models in white all had the same bright white tint like my iPad 2 and none had the different tinting at one or other end of screen or yellowing like my new iPad display. So maybe in Crabtree location store they were careful in only putting out perfect displays? I don't know but there was a visible difference between my new iPad and my iPad 2/store displays. Two Apple employees verified as much. I'm not looking for perfection, just a bright white, uniformly tinted screen like most people apparently have received and Apple advertises and uses as displays.

I have an odd story. When my girlfriend and I first bought our original iPads a couple years ago, I had this exact screen issue -- it was uneven, one side being more yellow or darker and the other side being white and great. I traded mine in a few times before getting one that was great, but my gf decided not to take hers back and she was ok with it. Fastfoward to just the other day, and I got my iPad 3 home and found I had the same issue again. So I went to compare mine with hers (forgetting that she had the same issue when we bought them) and i suddenly realized her screen was perfectly white, all the way across -- no more unevenness. I don't know when it went away, but it sure as heck isn't there anymore now!

I'm not at all saying just wait it out, because who knows what happened in her case. I just found it crazy that as her screen aged, it improved. And I definitely would have noticed if it was still how it originally looked. This all being said, I tried turning the brightness up all the way on a black screen and I noticed what almost looked like light bleeding but I don't believe it actually is (I don't think light bleeding would be so subtle, although maybe i'm wrong). I do have a few spots on the edges that appear more yellow but I'm not sure I should take it in for that or not. I'm scared I might get one that's a lot worse.

I've got the same issue, part of the screen is noticeably Warmer than the rest. Any luck yet?

Interesting. Has she used her iPad any unusual way or during extreme conditions or just normal use? Does she remember how long it took before the screen evened out?

Yeah, really annoying especially when reading heavy text based web sites. Suddenly words change color in the middle of the sentence... Really annoys the heck out of me.

I'm not sure if I have a tint problem but when viewing in landscape mode and tilting the iPad to the left, I notice a little bit of pink and when tilting it to the right theres green. Does anyone else have this?

The lower left corner of the screen in portrait has a noticeably green tint that goes away if I tilt the device away from me. This is my third iPad 3, the first crashed during a restore from a backup and was bricked, and the second had a yellow tint on the left side of the screen. The Apple Store is an hour's drive away, so I'm waiting to see if it goes away or if I can get used to it before making a third 2.5 hour round trip, especially since it seems likely I'll just be given a replacement with a worse issue.

Very disappointed with Apple's quality control right now.

I will hold on to it for this week... Mostly because I am pretty booked up and have little time to spare. I'll see if there is any noticeable improvements and decide whether to keep it or not. The possibility of it being glue though is welcome news. Perhaps the fact that they have not been powered in and generally stored in some cool warehouse meant that they didn't really cure. My iPad says it was manufactured in week 8, which is only a little over 2 weeks ago. I really love my iPad.... But I will return it for a refund if I cannot get a suitable replacement. Warm screen I could live with... Dual inconsistencies in color gamut I cannot.

Mine was built in Production week 7 (Feb). In landscape the top right corner had a slight pink tinge. It has now disappeared with usage.

I have the yellow tint at the top too (portrait). It seems like the very edge of the screen is really yellow and then it gradually fades as you look down the middle of the screen. When I type in landscape mode, I can see that the buttons are yellow on one side compared to the rest of the keyboard. I took it in to an apple store yesterday and tried 3 different ones and they all had the exact same issue. The genius saw the issue too but said they couldn't open anymore of them because he said all of them will be like that since it's the glue drying. I had the first iPad for a week and the yellow tint didn't change so I doubt it. He said to keep the 4th iPad for about a month and if it doesn't go away to come back and they'll see if there is any new information from apple about the issue.

I looked at the display iPads at the store and all of them seemed yellow but not one had the color uniformity issue. They have all been on for about a week nonstop so maybe it is the glue or something else that goes away after time but something tells me that's not the case... It's really a shame because I love the resolution. It's just too bad there always has to be 'something' with every new iPhone/iPad but like someone said, most people either won't notice or won't really care.

Yeah, that's a good point.

Contrary to our iPads, the iPads in the store pretty much run non-stop at full brightness. They don't even get turned off at all during the day. So if you tried 3-4 different ones out of the box and each has an uneven tint (like my iPad has), it could actually be going away if it is treated like those store iPads which run 24/7.

Perhaps those screens will even out over time. Someone else on this forum mentioned that his girlfriends' iPad 2 was very uneven in the beginning, but after a few months' of using it, the screen has completely evened out.

I really was thinking that I had a perfect iPad. The screen was much cooler than the first one I had, and it looked very nice.

Until I was holding it regularly, and the keyboard came up. I immediately noticed the left side of the keyboard was yellow, and the right side looks like there may be a slight pink tint to it.

Now it is all I see.

This is all a headache. Seriously. I am thinking about just returning it and buying an iPad 2 for a lot cheaper. Its just the hope of a perfect retina display that keeps me interested for the time being.

i have the same issue. some have said that what we're seeing is a product of IPS screens, but this is my first experience. As I said in the Yellow Tint thread, I don't know if I'm inclined to return as there are no other problems with this screen. Might as well wait it out. Worse case scenario - you convince a Genius to do a warranty replacement down the line when things have settled down.

Let us know what you end up doing, but I'd suggest you give it some more time.

So the left half of my screen being yellow is just a product of the technology, and therefore okay?

I won't settle on a device that I payed 800 dollars for. I would much rather get an iPad 2 for half the price and wait until next year.

Me personally, I am not complacent with things I purchase, and there is no way I will take the chance of going past my 14 days.

It's really a bummer, but I am not going to be playing the constant return game like I did with my 27 inch iMac just about a year ago.

I'm right there with you. I also know how the return game ends after you've made a commitment to playing it.

Hi guys,

There might be something that I did that helped and maybe it helps others.

My new iPad has/had a yellowish tint in the top left in portrait mode. I was intrigued by the towel trick etc and the processor warmth in the lower left. So I held the iPad over the lamp on my nightstand a couple of times for a short while to get the upper left to a cozy warmth. And maybe I am fantasizing, but I believe it got better, because I have much more trouble finding the yellow tint now.

So maybe it's all psychology and nothing changed. Maybe it did but had something to do with current working temperature and won't be permanent. Anyway, if you try this, please be very cautious and don't cook your iPad.

One more thing: I spoke with two reps in retail stores. One of them I expressly told that I didn't want to return it there and just needed his opinion. Both said that the screen was within specs. So you better use a no questions asked return policy if you have one instead of trying to convince a tech rep later on.

Cheers
