My experience with this issue
Hello guys,
I've decided to post today my experience with this "yellow tinting" issue. I'll explain why.
I got my new iPad at launch day from a major Greek store. It was my first ever iPad. After one week of just admiring its screen I noticed that the upper third of the display (near the FaceTime camera) was tinted noticeably more yellow than the two thirds below it. It was more obvious in split keyboard mode (landscape). I'm not at all sure that the issue wasn't present from day 1 or it came apparent after the first week but the fact is that I noticed it only after a week. I began searching for others experience and I got terrified reading online a series of defects, people stating that they have exchanged thirteen iPads (!) etc so I was really confused as to whether I should give it for an exchange or not. My fear, of course, was that I could get an iPad worse than the one I was giving. I also couldn't estimate the perentage of perfect iPads out there. At last, I thought I'd give it a try because I couldn't help staring at the issue. Today I received a new iPad as an exchange (new, not refurbished) and its display is for the time being really really nice. It doesn't have visible unevenness or major bleeding, the iPad doesnt have other issues either. People at the Greek Apple premium reseller (not an Apple Store) were nice and quick with the exchange and admitted with no hesitation that there was an issue with the first iPad.
My point is that if you think that some issue with your iPad is annoying you, don't hesitate to give it for an exchange. It is too awesome and expensive to have flaws. On the other hand don't go OCD looking for defects because no electronic device is perfect.
Read forum threads with skepticism. Always keep in mind that ones posting at a certain thread concerning a technical issue are the most unfortunate of our friends. The vast majority just enjoys their iPads so the sample is not representative. Do not fear that all iPads have issues. Even I, who had an issue with the first iPad, today being completely satisfied with the second, wouldn't have posted if it weren't to help you see things more vividly. Hope I did! cheers.
