I feel like my battery life sucks and I can't figure out why!!

Here are my settings:

brightness at about 50%
Bluetooth off
Wifi off (except to email this screenshot)
No push email
Location services on
Push notifications off

And here is where I'm at:
5cfF

I actually think this may be because my signal sucks at work, so I'm constantly losing signal and then reacquiring it throughout the day!

battery life

I let it drain completely and then charged all night long. Have brightness at 100%, push turned on, bluetooth off, 3g and wifi on. Used mostly internet and games/apps.

Usage: 4:55
Standby: 1 Day 14 Hours
Battery 5%

That was taking it off the charger Sunday morning at 7 AM and was down to 5% monday night at 10pm.

I just changed to Fetch every 30 and screen brightness to 75%. I like the bright crisp display. That should give me the cushion I need to reliably get two days = charging every other night.

Not blown away with the battery but I see in comparison to others here, that my settings may have had a lot to do with the ho-hum numbers. I am coming from an original iPhone 2G with very, very good battery life so I knew it would be a let down compared to that. Happy if I can two days tho.

usage: 5 Hours, 14 Minutes
standby: 2 Days, 3 Hours
call time: 1 Hour, 29 Minutes
21% remaining

bluetooth off; wifi on; auto brightness.

this is after the first charge. i still am letting it drain fully.

Just a heads up, you don't need to cycle a lithium-ion battery. 100%->0% and 0%->100% is really hard on it. To get the longest life out of your battery, charge to 80% and discharge to 20%. Li-Ions don't suffer from "memory loss" that nickle-cadmium batteries used to do. While it's obviously not easy to do this all the time, the more you stick to the 80-20 rule, the longer your phone will run in the long run.

u are correct about the no memory effect but 20-80 rules does not apply. it is good to cycle the battery because adc is used to measure the iphone battery level. so it need to be calibrated by fully discharged or fully charged in order for the actual iphone to now when the battery is going low in order for it to turn the phone off when the battery is actualy dead rather than 25% charged for example

I've been getting amazing battery life out of my iPhone 4 32gb. I talk on the phone lightly and most of it is Facebook and Mail.

Stats
Usage: 1 Hour, 6 minutes
Standby: 6 Hours, 55 Minutes
Battery: 86%

Config
WiFi: Off
3G: On
Data Connection: 3G
Brightness: Auto
Mail: Push Manual

Which one? It's either PUSH - 15 Min - 30 Min - 1 Hour - Manual

Never knew that. Thanks for the info

Usage: 4 hrs 59 mins
Standby: 19 hrs 27 mins
Battery: 38%

Usage consists mostly of wifi browsing. Wifi & 3G always on. Brightness usually at 50% or below.

Update: Well, it's been 9 hours since my previous post and I just plugged in for a recharge. Here are my stats:
Usage: 6 hrs 5 mins
Standby: 1 Day 4 hrs
Battery: 15%

So, I take it that the standby time is calculated by how much you use your phone. That is why it changes throughout the day based on your usage.

After 3 full charge cycles i average 6.5 hours usage and 12 hours standby.

The thing is though i would hardly say i'm putting the thing through its paces so i would expect battery life to be better than that.

I turn 3g off, bluetooth off, location services off, and run the screen at 75% brightness. I have wifi on but i havn't been doing any actual web browsing, not watching videos either. Pretty much the only app i've used is iBooks and i lose 1% of battery life every 4 minutes when just reading in iBooks with those settings.

Can there be something wrong with my battery? Or is this normal?

I know apple says up to 10 hours wi-fi web browsing, but im not even browsing the web and am only getting 6.5 hours.

Does it really have that large of a battery life impact? I mean there are people getting the same battery life as me with 3g, wifi, on and playing games, what are they running their displays at minimum brightness to pull that off?

The screen is one of the highest battery consuming components. I'm not sure how much difference exactly, but the brighter the screen, the more battery used.

Regardless of what you set the slider to, I recommend using auto-brightness.

Many people are "inflating" their Usage by listening to music (when the screen is off). It counts as usage but is super efficient compared with anything using the screen.

After a battery calibration this past weekend, I've gotten much better battery life. I charged my phone overnight Sunday to Monday morning. Unplugged my phone around 7:30 when I left for work and I ran the battery down to 0% at 5:17PM on Tuesday.

Settings:
-3G on, Wi-Fi off when out and about and while at work
-Wi-fi on, 3G off when at home
-Bluetooth on for about 2 hours total (car ride to and from work Mon. and Tues)
-Push notifications on
-Location services off
-Fetch email every 15 minutes, 2 IMAP accounts, one POP
-Screen brightness on auto, slider set to 50%

I did not listen to music at all during this time. Mostly web browsing, emails, texting, Twitter and Facebook apps, eBay and Amazon apps.

Time Since Last Full Charge
Usage: 3 Hours, 50 Minutes
Standby: 21 Hours, 22 Minutes

Battery Percentage: 73%

I'm pleased with this running two Push Exchange accounts and Push Notifications turned on for Facebook. Took from late Friday night to Late Sunday night to run the battery down to 0%! My old 3G was being charged at least daily sometimes more :)

What you think?

Hey Guys how is this?

3g ON. 70% Wifi 30% 3g Pandora
Pretty much all Internet usage (Istockmanager) Streamer.

I switched it to edge with 5% left as I needed it and wasn't home to charge.

Is this good or bad?

Battery Percentage: 83%
Usage: 1 Hour, 2 Minutes
Standby: 1 Hour, 36 Minutes
3G: ON; Wifi: OFF
Brightness: 50%; Auto-Brightness: OFF

No music, no phone calls.
Push on Yahoo email, Fetch (15 minutes) on Gmail.

Also, how do you post photos onto the forums? I took a screenshot but I didn't know how to post it.

Here is mine. Wifi always on, screen at 1/3 brightness, push on, location svcs on. I'm very pleased. I'm getting around 2 more hours than I was with the 3GS.

Down to 14% after:
5 hours usage
13 hours standby (standby time seems to include usage time).
3G on, push email on, Bluetooth off, auto screen.
Almost no music. Almost all usage time was screen time. I get 2% drain overnight on standby.
