looking at everyone elses I assume mine is roughly normal (I am a lightish user)

wifi ON (most of the day due to crappy data signal)
Bluetooth OFF
Brightness: AUTO
Push ON
Exchange fetch Manual (just set it to 30 mins after posting image)

How about uniform tests???

Okay, I thought my battery was weird or sucky so here is what I did. I took a friends ip4. set our brightness to max, logged onto the same wifi, made sure push/ fetch emails were off. went to camera and starting recording video. Recorded 10 minutes... then went to youtube, featured video and had both watch the Meryl streep commencement/graduation video. about 30 minutes. After that both phones showed 80% battery life, down from 100%. one was at 81% and the other was 80. After this, i set my phone to my personal setting and figured my battery was ok. If I wanted more then i needed to change my settings.

I did have the volume all the way down for that youtube video. If we do something like this and post our battery life then we will have a standard comparison.

Not impressed - is my phone faulty?

Not very impressed. I have cycled the battery properly twice by completely discharging and then recharging fully.

I have hardly used the phone today (4 minutes of calls), and for data it has been email, twitter and maybe a little web browsing, all over wifi.

Bluetooth: OFF
Brightness: ~50% (auto on)
Notifications: On (2 apps)
3G: ON
Wifi: ON (at home all day)
Push: ON (google account - mail, contacts, calendar)
Fetch: 15 mins (one account)
Location Services: ON (not used at all today)

Thoughts?

Trying to figure out if mine is average or not.....

3G: ON
Wifi: ON
Bluetooth: ON
Location: OFF
Push and Fetch: OFF
Brightness: ~75%

Usage was a few calls, playing games, browsing the web. I restored from my 3G backup when I got my phone last week. Any thoughts?

Under normal usage, I'm shocked at how much better the battery is on the iP4.

3G - ON
Wifi - ON
Notifications - ON
Location Services - ON
Push - Off, but check email frequently.
Brightness - 50%; auto turned off.
Listened to Slacker for hours, surfed web and texted.

How do you post the screen shot via the iPhone?

I had 9hrs, 46 min of usage and 1 day, 8 hours of standby. Quite impressed.

3G - ON
Wifi - ON
Notifications - ON
Location Services - ON
Push - ON
Brightness - Auto
Browsed the Internet
normal e-mail use
ipod/pandora

I love the battery!

iPhone 4 Battery Life, How is it ?

HEY EVERYBODY , JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF YOU GUYS WHO ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET YOUR HANDS ON AN IPHONE 4 , HOW IS YOUR DEVICES BATTERY LIFE? IS ANYONE CHANGING THERE SETTINGS ? JUST TO GET SOME IMPUT FROM OTHER PEOPLE. I GET WITH MEDIUM USAGE , ABOUT CLOSE TO TWO DAYS TILL I HAVE TO CHARGE IT.....:D

Joey

BT On
WIFI on sometimes
3G off most of the time
Location services off
Gaming for a good couple of hours
Surfing / App store / emailing / texting.

Usage 7H 33M
Standby 1D 17H

Currently at 6%.

Tell you what, far better than the 3G or HTC Hero I had.

3G: ON
Wifi: ON
Bluetooth: ON
Location: OFF
Push and Fetch: OFF
Brightness: ~75%

Usage was a few calls, playing games, browsing the web. I restored from my 3G backup when I got my phone last week. Any thoughts?

Turn your brightness down. Between 40-60% should go a long way. I also tend to turn off auto-bright for consistency's sake, but I imagine it does help conserve battery in some situations, though.

My battery blows. I drop about 20% overnight.

3G always on. Fetch 30 min no wifi no notifications and brightness 30% roughly.

I'm returning it tomorrow.

Today with just safari use I went from 75% to dead in about 2 hours.

Mine also dropped 20% overnight. Did you return it? If so is your battery life any better? I think i'm going to return mine too.

Guys, you really need to post WHAT your doing with your phone for the usage periods. Your 8 hours of usage is irrelevant if you don't post what you were doing. Playing games for 8 hours VS. listening to music for 8 hours effects your battery usage very differently.

Does this seem right?

I have been doing some reorganization of app icons, light texting, setting up email.

I recently set it up as new iPhone after initially having recovered backup

PLEASE HELP

(also does it matter if it was charged to 100% by USB or by wall charger?)

You still have 83% left....why are you worried? Show it to us when you are under 10%.

What people aren't considering is that signal strength will affect your battery usage. You and I can both sit in our offices all day long with our phones on standby and at the end of the day have a different battery usage profile due to one of us having better signal than the other.

http://www.qualcomm.com/common/documents/white_papers/Standby_Time_WCDMANetworks_web.pdf (PDF Link)

2 dB decrease in Sintrasearch and Sinterserach can increase stand-by time up to 25%.
3 dB increase in Inter- freq Qoffest can increase stand-by time up to 35%.
Cell quality (Ec/No) impact is minimal, ranging from 0 to 1 dB.

I have 1 hour and 20 minutes usage
Standby - 4 hours 44minutes
sitting at 80%
this is from last full charge -

Is that average battery life?

The big question always is, did you listen to music or not. If so, you're almost inflating your result by the time you used the ipod.

So, that being said, today I used the phone heavily, lots of web surfing via both wifi and 3G, lots of speedtest tests on 3g, which must be tough on the battery, about 30 min 3G calls, some email and sending large pics, but, no ipod, and I hit the 50% mark at exactly 3.5 hours of pretty hard usage. It'll be interesting to see how accurate the battery indicator is, and if that number doubles or not, I did run it to zero last night, then fully charged, so it should be accurate.

Whenever I used my 3Gs this hard, with no ipod, I was lucky to get 5 hours, so, it seems I'm getting 2 hours or so more use from the 4. Not bad.

On a more normal day however, I'd listen to an hour or 2 of music, which would add approx. another 1-2 hours to my time and get me close to 8.5 hours. Obviously that's pretty decent for what is essentially a tiny laptop that also makes calls.

Other issues aside, they sure did a good job of packing the phone with features, more power, much better display, while actually increasing battery life.

So 40% more, which, incidentally, is what Apple was saying. Nice for them to be on spot there.

Got me. I don't think anyone can answer you since you didn't say what you were doing with it...

For me, playing MP3's with no push/fetch and bluetooth off, I've got 92% after 3 hours usage, 3 hours 50 min standby...

sorry about that - meant to do that

3 Mail accounts all push
texting
little web
3G good signal
WiFi
4 phone calls

yesterdays usage was 25%
Usage - 4h, 7m
standby - 1day, 8hrs

With the same as above usage
