These numbers are meaningless. Always have been. Always will be. If your brightness is high, it changes things HUGELY. If you're playing an intensive game, this changes things hugely. Are you using wifi/bt?

*sigh*

Without Exchange/Push battery life is pretty good. Seems much better then on 3G.

wifi on (2 hours of browsing on that charge)
brightness at 85%
push mail off
location on
notifications on
3G on (half hour of 3G Safari browsing)

After a full discharge and full charge to 100 percent plus 1 hour

WOW!! This is awesome!

WiFi: ON - Throughout. Used all the time.
My brightness is 35%
Push Mail: ON
Location: ON
Notifications: ON
3G: ON (Not used)

I agree, but this would give an average on the battery life.

I have been gaming, texting and making calls on my iPhone all day, I have Wi-Fi turned on and 3G, my phone is charging right now but was at 44% before I stuck it on charge...The battery on this thing is crazy, almost as good as the iPads and that's saying something

I'm loving my iPhone 4 except the battery. It feels like my original iPhone 2g battery. I'll be taking it back to the Apple Store this week for service.

Battery life is significantly better than my 3GS.

Might want to back off that caps lock though...

HEY EVERYBODY , JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF YOU GUYS WHO ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET YOUR HANDS ON AN IPHONE 4 , HOW IS YOUR DEVICES BATTERY LIFE? IS ANYONE CHANGING THERE SETTINGS ? JUST TO GET SOME IMPUT FROM OTHER PEOPLE. I GET WITH MEDIUM USAGE , ABOUT CLOSE TO TWO DAYS TILL I HAVE TO CHARGE IT.....:D

Joey

It's amazing, just amazing. 4 days with medium usage. I don't even have to think about charging anymore.

Saying you have medium usage means almost nothing to me. Actually quoting any kind of battery life and not explicitly stating what portions of usage were listening to the iPod, surfing on 3G, etc. means next to nothing, at least for comparison purposes.

I’ll explain further for those who don’t seem to understand this concept. Here are the rated usage times for the 4:

Talk Time - 3G 7 hours / EDGE 14 hours
Web Browsing - 3G 6 hours / WiFi 10 hours
Video Playback - 10 hours
Audio Playback - 40 hours
Standby Time - 300 hours

If all you do is play on the iPod, you have a very good chance of going days before you have to charge (for example 8 hours a day x 5 days in the best conditions). If however, you browse the web for 5 hours on 3G, you will have used approximately 84% of your life, and you might be able to talk for an hour or play on your iPod for 5-10 hours, thus getting less than a day before needing a charge.

You'll never get what you want. There's even more to it than the above. What was the screen brightness set to? Are you pushing email? If not then are you polling? How often? How many accounts? If there is iPod use the what format is the music encoded in? What bit rate? Are location services on? Bluetooth? WiFi? Locked to the 2G network, 3G network or automatic selection? What is the graph of cellphone signal strength over time for the duration of the test?

The only real way to compare the battery performance of people's devices is to define a very precise test case to run (which would have to involve being in aeroplane mode since otherwise one can't know the signal strengths) and see how much time people get. It might not be a bad idea since that would at least give people who think they have a bad battery a test to run to find out but wouldn't help someone like the original poster since it would be a totally artificial test case.

I don't think the battery life is much of an improvement on the 3g.

If I listen to my music for a few hours a day, do a bit of light surfing and send texts it might last a day or 2. I don't always have to on 3g, only when I'm surfing.

I suppose if you do use the web it will drain it quickly though.

here's mine with everything turned on except for bluetooth. Brightness at 50% with web browsing, phone calls, email, facebook, and twitter. Email fetches every hour and there has been no ipod playback. I'm pleased with the use

Furthermore I work in an ER where there are dead spots EVERYwhere so my phone is constantly searching for signal throughout the day.

I though my battery life wasn't very good but this looks great compared to many posts on here. I'm satisfied.

Sorry about the photo size... stupid retina display

So after a full charge and almost completely dead here are my stats. Would you guys say they look bad, or are pretty fair?
Hmmm... After looking at my stats I'd say definitely not fair... I'm not saying you have a faulty battery, but check mine and then look at yours... also, mine is searching for signal most of the day too which drains the battery...

I've done 3 complete charge/discharge cycles, and restored as new, and my latest-and-greatest stats are abysmal:

Usage: 59m
Standby: 1 day, 2 hours

Currently at 40%

The issue here is I have NOT used it for 59 minutes. Actually, I haven't used it at all. I pulled it off the charger yesterday, and haven't even unlocked it until right now when I checked the stats. So, where is it getting off saying I've used it for an hour? I do not have Push on, or notifications, or anything like that, and it died before I plugged it in so nothing should have been running.

Does this look like a faulty battery to anyone?

Battery: 40%
Usage: 3 hours, 52 minutes
Standby: 22 hours, 30 minutes

Brightness 40%
WiFi On
Push Email
Notifications: Facebook

I'd say that is pretty good.

Definitely better.

I've been using it heavily, and most importantly, NO IPOD/music, and I'm getting right around 7 hours and 15 hours or so of standby.

For all it does, how can you complain?
