Melb Delivery Date: 3 Mar+ :(

Hey guys, I'm from Australia but I live in Canada now.

How much did you pay for your machines? I hear the prices are pretty high for Macs over there!?

My expected delivery date is 25th Feb. I ordered on 7th Jan with a 7200rpm drive and matte screen kit. $3734 with Student Dev discount :)

I guess there is no real difference then in prices between Canada and Oz. It just sounds like a helluva lot!

Such amazing machines... so flippin expensive!

Don't buy AppleCare from Apple, buy it from eBay, you can save loads!

Mine machine was US$3052
Upgraded the CPU and the HDD

That's the only reason why I choose to buy from Thailand instead of Australia. Apple in Australia is just $$$

$3734!!! Thats a sweet price, i actually got a discount from the company i work for.....got $400 off, plus i leave the country on the 12th Feb, so get GST back another $400....makes it a sweet deal....:)

PS - my delivery date is the 11th and i leave for a 2 month vacation on the 12th.......just hope it gets here in time

I am ordering mine on the 14th of April ... so, still a long way to go... yet I am very excited by the huge screen, I am using a 13 inch dell right now.

here is my configuration:

AppleCare Protection Plan - MacBook Pro (w/ or w/o Display) $399.00
Incase Nylon Backpack for 17-inch MacBook Pro (Chocolate) $99.95
Incase Hardshell Case for 17-inch MacBook Pro (Frost) $49.95
Incase Neoprene Sleeve for 17-inch MacBook Pro $34.95
MacBook Pro, 17-inch, Aluminium $3,118.00
+ 4gb
+ 320gb 7200rpm
+ Anti-gloss Screen
+ 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
+ SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
= 3701.85 + taxes = $ 4258.05 (canadian dollars)

I just read on this thread that I can buy my Apple Care through ebay... how is that possible... that's quite amazing actually... can i buy it from any country and then register my hardware through apple... i really don't know how it works, i will conduct a google search and hopefully will get all the info i need about it... anyone with more info about, please let me know..

I paid AU$4600 with the above config (only upgrade was the HDD @ 7200)

THATS US$3038!!!

So that's A$4182 before GST - remember the US price doesn't include their sales taxes - which comes to US$2757.

US price before tax for the same machine: US$2849.

You got a bargain.

Now there's one thing I'm really scared about. I've already ordered this 17" MBP from Apple Online Thailand Store (since I need the Thai keyboard) to a Thai address and then my friends would ship it to me in Australia.

Now what I know is that I might be taxed from importing it into Australia. That's AUD 400!!! Didn't expect to pay this extra money. Is there any other way around this?

I hate customs world-wide. They just love to make more trouble and get tax out of everyone to fund their corrupted government.

Yeah, i'm pretty sure that you will have to pay the $400 duty. Maybe ask a friend to travel with it (on him) that way you can try and avoid it...:D

Just called the apple store and asked them about the ship date, and the lady reckons, that i should have mine next week.

She said all orders are on schedule :D

I belive it should be shipped somewhere around 2009-02-11 placed the order 2009-01-08 but that is just the last info from my local :apple: store .. they are not even shore themself ..

if I get it somewhere in the middle of 2009-02 I´m happy enough ..

but I´ve ordered a 256 GB SSD and matte screen so that could have an inpact ..

Where you located? Mine ships on the 4th Feb:D

I changed my order from the one with Thai keyboard to US keyboard and the shipping date is bumped up by 10 days. Now I can carry it to Australia myself!!! :D

It will reach me on the 15 Feb.

All right ladies and gents, my credit card has been charged (as of this morning), and i've been told that apple dont charge the card till they are ready to ship......hoping this is a good sign

Mine was charged this morning too. Delivery dates have not been changed on the order page, however I have never found these to be indicative of reality. Looks like I might have my new notebook before my birthday :)
