I'm also planing on buying a ACD. Though, I'm not to sure about the 20". Cuz I already got a Samsung 20", and I'm going to sell that one, and I rather buy the next monitor larger than the old one. But the 20" - 23" is so much more expensive!

Its more about the resolution than the inches. 1680x1050 to 1920x1200. Speaking of which i just plonked down for a 23"...bought from a fellow MR member but he's yet to ship it. So im sitting here twiddling
May I ask how much you paid for it?
I'm still wondering if I should get a 23" ACD for a little extra more...
edit: Also, when Apple introduces the new 20" ACD, what do you think they will price it at? I don't really want to spend more than $500 on a new ACD, but I absolutely love the look of the new ACD.
I've had the 23" for a while. Its a good monitor. Here's some pics from over the years...

Very nice, I liked your unboxing pictures. I want a 30" cinema display so badly, but I just cant justify spending that much money on a monitor.
I'm not so sure Apple will introduce a 20-inch led. They seem to like the 24-inch monitor as a starting point. Some evidence of that is that they still havent' released one, and the they eliminated one of the 20-inch imacs from their lineup.
They will introduce a 30-inch led more than likely.
£400 incl shipping ($560). Quite a lot...yet quite a bargain and at least i know i'll enjoy a good resale value compared with buying other brands and its still well under warranty. With the current pattern of jacking up prices i wont be surprised if Apple does the same with the 20" display so maybe add $50-110 (£70-140) to the existing price...at least here in the UK anyway
The new ACD looks stunning but i'm not really a fan of the glossy and propriety mini display port that isn't backwards compatible with DVI
Ya, but most people can't afford a $900 LCD. I mean honestly who would even buy it? For a little more you can get a refurbished 24" iMac.
Apple needs to maintain a cheaper LCD so that more people can buy it, and less people can complain. If Apples' 24" LED was their cheapest LCD, I think that Apple would hear ALOT of complaining.
I spent $500 on the Dell 2408 UltraSharp and I got even more than the $800 a 24" Apple display would've costed me. I do love Apple products, but their displays are WAY to overpriced. For the price of one 24" I could have two 24" Dell Ultra Sharps.
*cough* Does it have built-in speakers and a webcam? Is it made from high quality materials or is it plastic? Built in USB hub? Does it charge your MacBook? Is it LED backlit?
People act like Apple charges $900 for the product because they feel like it. It's a high quality display made with high quality materials. Things add up. Are they taking in a high profit margin on the displays? Probably, but I think $900 is a fair price for the first gen of such a display...anyone remember when the aluminum ACDs were released? The 20" was $1,299. It's technology. That's how it works.
You make good points, but it's still way overpriced in my opionion. I don't need an isight, I have a macbook pro, I don't need built in speakers, they're most likely ****** (although I've heard they are decent) but my sound system is much better, it is plastic, I have a charge my laptop.
The Dell is plastic, it has a USB hub, with 4 ports actually (+1 on the apple cinema display). ACD has a display port and.... oh wait nothing else. I have 2x dvi, 2x HDMI, display port, VGA, audio/video, and s-video.
Don't get me wrong the ACD is a great display and I would love to own one, but for how much it is, I'd much rather pickup the dell for $400 cheaper and get more options, in a sense. I like the previous ACD design better than the new 24" too.

My 23" purchased in August.
For those of you who are on the edge of purchasing the 20" or 23", just get the 23 incher, otherwise you will always keep wondering what it would be like with the larger screen, or a year from now you will wish you spent the couple extra hundred for the few extra inches. Going from the 23" to the 30" is an easier yes or no decision since it's an extra $1000!

The cost difference is why I also opted for the Dell 30-inch 3007WFP-HC monitor instead of the 30-inch ACD. I added a Logitech Webcam and the savings still came to nearly $400. I would have also loved to own the Apple but the Dell was a great monitor for the price. I usually don't use extra ports on the monitor so that wasn't factored into the decision.

The thing with me is that I originally wanted to spend $350 or so on a 24" Dell LCD. Then I decided if I could find a 20" ACD on ebay for $300 or so I'd buy that. However I can't really find ANY 23" ACD's on eBay, and I'm having problems finding them anywhere else since most places online just have the 24" LED ACD and the 30" ACD. So right now the 20" ACD looks like the winner
If you can find places that sell the 23" ACD for under $600, please post them.
