I'm New

So I have a:

-Mac SE 4MB System 7.1
-Ipod Nano 4GB
-Iphone 5 16GB

I have been looking for one of the bandai blue macs that I used to use back in the day, and for a powermac g4 laptop just for the coolness.

NeXT Cube

Complete in boxes, all serial numbers match, every piece of software, price guides, EVERYTHING. NeXT branded power chords, and NeXT branded hex screw driver...

Haven't posted my collection yet mostly because it's scattered through the house but it's the typical run of the mill stuff... Couple of PowerMac G5s, 2 iMac G3s, 5 - 6 different iPods, a couple iSights, G4 iMac, lots of posters from my days at an Apple Authorized Reseller / Service Provider, 3 crates of shirts, couple of iBook G4s and PowerBook G4s, Cube, random cables and mice, old software, etc...

This past week though I picked up my favorite Apple goodie though... Some nice old guy posted this on Craigslist saying he had spotted it by the dumpster at our shopping mall and thought it looked too nice to throw away. It had a crack where they all crack, the circular foot rest/brace, but he was able to repair it and repaint the foot rest. Picked it up for $25 and could not be happier. I happened to be in the Apple store it came from chit chatting with an old manager friend of mine and I mentioned it to him. His eyes got real big as he said "What?! Those aren't supposed to be disposed of... ever!". I laughed and said "Thats exactly why I didn't hesitate to buy it!"

Not as cool as the glass step that was on eBay or the Genius logo from behind the bar that was up for sale a year or two ago but I like to think it's a bit more functional!

I don't get it? Are you talking about that bar stool? Thats a really common model...at least in europe

Yes. Don't get me wrong, they're available outside of Apple but from what I've found they are only available in the naked birch veneer finish with your choice of a colored seat, and at a cost upwards of $500...

Aalto High Stool 64

With that said, I was excited to jump on one that cost less than a 20th of a new "non - Apple store" one.

Ah, well Alvar Aalto designed this in 1935 and me being from Sweden has seen this all my life in many different finishes. I congratulate you to a really great find, but to me its not that "apple" if you know what I mean ;)

Haha, I totally understand that. I live about an hour north of the Chevy Corvette factory in Kentucky, for the same reason I have never been terribly excited to see Corvettes.

Collecting not only Apple but anything "having to do with" Apple - that's hardcore...

(we Apple Collectors are a crazy bunch....) ;)

Indeed. I've worked for Apple and an AASP so I've handled loads of Macs which has desensitized me a bit to the "run of the mill" stuff since I'd see just about every type of older Mac (late 90's to today) brought in for recycling. It's the stuff that usually doesn't make it's way to dumpsters that excites me.

Don't get me wrong, I still cringe when I help load a pallet full of Power Mac G4s into the recycling truck but knowing that "I can't save them all" has helped to make me much more selective.

What's your favorite find, and if different, what's the rarest thing you've seen someone try to throw away?

Back in the 90's, my friend worked at a large high school upgrading from 68K to PPC Macs. They were throwing away over 100 different 68K Macs.

He managed to get for me a IIfx and a few SE/30's and Classics and a bag full of mice/keyboards/cables.

Recent addition: CUBE!

Recently added a G4 Cube to the collection. And of course had to throw on Mac OS X Public Beta!

Yeah, sure, just some flotsam in the garage. A couple of 20th anniversary Macs, a few G4 cubs, what looks like a Mac XL just gathering dust.

Die in a fire. :D

Oh don't worry about them collecting dust... My one off custom Apple store office is under construction. I'd never just let these sit around and be sad in their boxes.

Aaaah, the CIB (Complete-In-Box) Syndrome.....

Not as bad as the Star Trek Collectors wanting NISP (New-In-Sealed-Package)....

:p

True, but then there's no reasonable expectation to find Apple computers and peripherals, especially vintage ones, in sealed packages. Given their usefulness and much greater proportional cost when they were manufactured, it's rare that someone just left them to sit.

Oh, but I dream of finding a twin-Twiggy Lisa or a III plus sealed in a box. I think my life as collector would be all downhill at that point.

Those are both really cool but prototypes in boxes are way cooler

The Newton 110, at the top is a prototype Newton 110. One of those TAM's is a prototype. I've got a transparent Macintosh SE, prototype Macintosh Portable, Steve Job's personal Apple IIe, 2x TAM's I use, quadra 700 with prototype GC/Apple asset tag, Apple branded putter (not in the pictures)... the list goes on

And if you ever plan on selling any of those for less that, say, $1500, let me know. :p Till then, cheerio.

Incidentally, that prototype Macintosh portable. Is that the one from NASA JPL that sold on eBay last year?

Well the previous two posts basically make me feel insignificant now, I was expecting to come in with my original iMac G4 and look like a hero :p

Well anyway, I'll post it. Unfortunately I'm moving, so no pics, but whatever ;)...

Original iMac G4 700MHz fully upgraded (but kept original parts, too sentimental now :p)

1GB RAM, 320GB 7200RPM HDD, OS X 10.4.11 (10.5 possible, but too slow...)
Original box, all DVDs, paperwork, AppleCare documents, manuals and Pro Keyboard/Mouse, Apple Pro Speakers (albeit a bit fuzzy now sound-wise), and cords.

I've seen people use new Mac Mini guts, or even Intel's new NUCs in the base, but that'd ruin the beauty :p

I absolutely love the computer- the design is impeccible, and the white-on-chrome theme is clean and simple. I like the little plastic overhang coming off the matte 15" display, and when the dvd drive is out, it looks like the Mac is sticking its tongue out at you (like in the commercial). I'll never sell this baby- it's all there, and all gorgeous and like-new. I mean, if someone offered $1000 I'd think twice MAYBE :p.

So there's my two cents, I use a 2006 MacBook now, so I'm hardly a modern Mac owner, but at least it's Intel :D.

Thanks for reading! I'd like to hear if others have this beauty as well :). As a final point, I hate the 20" and 24" (I think) iMac G4's- the 15" is the perfect size to compliment the base, although the workspace is of course a bit small.

Thanks!
