So we have a LTE thread but not every area has LTE.

What are people getting in areas with AT&T's fake 4G? (HSPA +)

I was getting really slow speeds when I first activated but now things have changed.

Getting 5.73mbps down and 1.83 up. I'm in Newark DE

What are other people in non LTE areas getting?

Post where you are also.

Avg. 5 Mbps Down, 1 Mbps up, and 50ms ping

I was rocking 40Mbps Down, 25 Mbps up, 40ms ping LTE in Chevy Chase, MD last weekend. Wish we had LTE up here. :(

Up here in Anchorage, I'm getting 7.42 Mbps down, 1.76 Mbps up. My iPhone 4S maxes out at around 3.5-4 MBps down/ 1Mbps up in the same locations.

I just tested my iPhone 3GS next to my iPhone 4S and new iPad. The results were:

3G (iPhone 3GS): 2.22 Mbps Down, .18 Up, 234ms Ping

4G (iPhone 4S): 8.13 Mbps Down, 1.92 Mbps Up, 72ms Ping

4G (iPad 3rd gen): 9.03 Mbps Down, 1.09 Mbps Up, 75ms Ping

Same room, same time.

I'm getting (at 3am while working in the ER) 10.5mbps down and 5mbps up in Yakima, Washington!

Very impressive and this was exactly the reason I went with the AT&T version (though I now understand I could have done HSPA+ with the Verizon version too....). We won't have LTE here for years from either company, so at least, for now, I can enjoy HSPA+ vs EV-DO Rev A.

That looks like you're getting throttled. (EDIT* Unless you're on an iPad which shouldn't be getting throttled. If you are on an iPad, ouch.)

nice 8! I thought HSPA + tapped out at 7mbps
3G HSPA maxes out at 7.2mbps at the Link layer. Somewhere around 5mbps at the Application Layer.
In metro Atlanta, I rarely scored below 3, often 4-5mbps on old school 3G with my iPhone 4.

4G HSPA+ can go very high, iPhone 4S only supports 14.4mbps at the link layer. Somewhere around 9-10 at the Application Layer. I often saw people score in the 8-9's.

Link Layer is advertised, but many of those bits are used for encryption and packet loss prevention. You should multiply any advertised bandwidth by .6 or .7 to get approximate expected Application Layer speed.

iPhone 5 (21mbps HSPA+ 4G Link Layer) should be capable of a 14.7mbps 4G speedtest result... if the towers support it.
