Philly suburbs, PA - Decent. Some dropped calls. Call quality can be iffy at time.

At Phillies games last year, the internet wouldnt even load on 3G sometimes, but I believed they have updated some of the towers over there and it is fine now.

They have recently upgraded the towers in Center City such that you can supposedly use your phone underground on the subway. Don't ride the system much myself so can't personally comment.

I live in the middle of center city and when I first bought the iPhone 3G last summer I noted a number of dropped calls. This improved significantly around the the start of the year but since the upgrade a few days ago the drops have returned. I also have found that speed wise, when I run a speed test on 3G the max I get is 999 KB/s. That's a bit dissapointing considering in Boston I have reached as high as 1.5-1.6 MB/s.

Atlanta, GA area. Service is great. My grandparents house, in Lawrenceville, seems to be a bit of a 3G dead spot though, which is weird. It's just in the house though, I get 3G again standing near a window or outside haha. Guess it's just a thick house.

Overall though, yes, service is great around here. I never drop calls and pretty much only lose service in thick-walled buildings.

I get Coverage Everywhere I go. New Orleans, Baton Rouge, all of the surrounding cities, Destin and Pensacola, and when we go skiing I have great coverege(mom is on verizon. She is getting an iPhone next week.) the only place I don't have great coverage is at my dads but AT&T is the only cell provider with coverage witch is the reason we have them. 3G ends only a couple of miles away.

Houston, TX - HORRIBLE service. Horrible. Heinous. I drop an average of 25% of my calls.

How bad is it? It's so bad that last month I decided I could not take it anymore and paid $500 in early termination fees to switch to Verizon. The Verizon service was phenominal. All of a sudden, I got signal at work where I had ZERO bars before and I never dropped a single call.
However.........I didn't realize how much I NEED my iPhone. Using the blackberry felt like I had stepped back in the 1980s. After one week Verizon, I had to decide. Do I want and incredible phone but mediocre gadget with Verizon and the Blackberry? Or do I want a terrible phone but the best portable gadget that exists?

For me, I decided that the iPhone wins and I switched back to AT&T. All-in-all, I'd say I'm happy with my iPhone as a gadget, but I am disgusted with it and AT&T as a cell phone.

(and for the record, my wife's free Nokia flip phone from AT&T drops A LOT less calls than my iphone 2g and 3g)

Hampton Roads, VA = started out as crap, is good/borderline great now.
(Va Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake)

They send out newsletters like this a few times a year (in addition to texts when new towers go up) to let you know what they're doing:
