That is awful. I wonder how they determine which goes through first??

This is really unacceptable. I don't really mind being behind andtwo by a day (although I ordered before him) but how can someone order on the 17th/18th and still not have their order shipped?

I phoned the apple dev store and I think that they misinformed me. I asked, "If I place an order today, it says 3-5 days till shipping. Since my current time frame is 7-10, won't an order placed now get here before my order from last week?"

The reply was that they process orders in chronological order, so no, my order from last week would still be first. However, the evidence given by andtwo shows otherwise.

Do you ppl think that I should eat the discount I get from the dev store and just buy a 2.5 instore?:(

The fact that "andtwo" did order the exact same CTO as myself three days later, and that his shipped today while mine didn't, entails they determine it by throwing dice.

Am still glad for you though, andtwo!

Guess what!!

I really don't know how they sort the shipping out...but I got a surprise this morning. I was still in bed and I heard knocking....didn't expect it to be delivered today but my surprise the FedEx man had a brown box in his hands...I am actually posting this in my new MBP!!!:D

Is it because you ordered it through the Apple Dev. Store? Don't know if that would make a difference.

Mine was not ordered through the Apple Dev store... and is still "Not yet shipped". It was ordered on Sept 22 @ 1pm.

Congratulations on your new one, how is it so far? Any complaints yet? Gosh I cant' wait for mine.

I'm in the same boat, or a nearly identical one. I got the 320/7200 drive and the 2.5 book. I ordered it a day or so earlier than he did and as I type it's still "not yet shipped." It's only a couple days later at this point, so I am not too worried.. but if it doesn't ship in the next couple of days that will sure seem odd .. but I'll keep my status up to date in my original post.

Yay! After almost 4 years I'm *finally* upgrading my PB G4 (= Just placed my order last night, and now I'm all registered on here and everything. Go me!

MBP
2.53Ghz
250GB 7200

Ordered: Oct 27, 2008
Ships: 3 - 5 business days
Delivers: Oct 31 - Nov 6

Seems like I will have to suffer the wait even longer than some of you guys

Don't know what happened with my order

Ordered 2.53/320 (7200rpm) Oct 20th

Originally was quoted 3-5 business days and yesterday it became November 19th.

Their shipping process doesn't make any sense. Some people are ordering and getting their laptops shipped in a few days while others are waiting weeks. On the bright side, if you are forced to wait longer than most, it's more likely you're getting a later build which might mean some of the more probably kinks have been worked out. At least that's the optimistic way of looking at it.

So far I managed to freeze it once. But that was my fault, I was transferring my iTunes library over and instead of opening the songs, I clicked open in Finder by mistake, so it was popping up windows all over the place. It was running ok in the beginning but after awhile I guess it couldn't open any more windows and so it froze...

My major complain is transferring files from my old MBP is taking forever, and I didn't want to use the migration wizard coz I don't all my stuff to be moved over just so selective stuff. So I am connecting it over the local network, but overall its running pretty smoothly. Right now I am transferring about 10gbs of stuff, downloading stuff from iTunes and installing Office 2004 at the same time without a hiccup.

Well good news is that mine arrived safe and sound this morning. Amazing to think that just yesterday it was still at the factory in Shanghai. I attached the whole shipping process. :D

Edit: Notice my signature...a whole day earlier than expected.

was yours custom configured? how come it only took a day to get to you?

It only took a day because on the FedEx tracking it doesn't account for time zone changes. Since Shanghai, China is about 13 hours ahead of us shipping it to the states actually feels faster then it is. So it was shipped when it was at night here, which is daytime in China a day ahead.

If you look at "uoip's" tracking results, look carefully at Oct. 27 it left Shanghai 9:18pm and it arrived in Anchorage the same day at 1:04pm. And I think he upgraded to the 2-3day shipment just like me, so essentially it has taken 2days, but with the time zone change it seems like it only took 1 day.

My package has an estimated delivery date of 10/30/08 by 10:30 am. To me, it seems that the package is ahead of schedule, because I live in Southern California (Rolling Hills Estates) and the package is in Oakland, CA, and en route to Manhattan Beach(about 15 miles away from where I am), does this mean that I will receive my package tomorrow one day ahead of schedule? Or will they purposely hold the package til the 30th?

Thanks.

Education orders are shipped later than Personal orders

OK, I just spoke to a sales rep about why my order is delayed compared to others (some on this forum) who placed it later and already got it, while I'm still waiting for it to be shipped. It turns out that "regular" orders are preferred over educational orders, so they get shipped earlier. I'm guessing the rationale is that Apple makes less money from the educational orders. I'm also guessing "andtwo" didn't order through educational channel?

Hmmmmm.....I did order mine through the Educational channel. I guess I was just lucky.

I wanted to specify that my order is an EPP (Corporate Employee Purchase Plan), which came out to $1 cheaper than what the .edu discount would have been. I hope the estimated delivery time is accurate!

That's really interesting. Having ordered a $2700 laptop from them I feel a little disappointed. Maybe I should ditch Apple and go back to Linux on a Dell, and give the $1k I save to charities...oh wait, work is paying for it so I can't give any of it to charities...bummer...

nuts! looks like being canadian slowed things down for me compared to uiop and andtwo. mine's still stuck just outside toronto (in mississauga) with a status of "clearance in progress". fingers crossed it gets delivered tomorrow - i just found out i'll be working from home that day!

edit: regarding the discussion about 'regular' orders getting preference over education, i'd just like to throw in that mine was an educational order placed on oct. 22nd, and it still managed to ship by the 27th. macbook123, feel free to throw that out to apple if it helps you get some sort of discount or freebee for your wait!

also to uiop and andtwo, since your machines are likely the same 'batch' as mine, how are you finding things? no dead pixels? lid shuts nicely? speakers sound ok?

Wewt, mine came today and I'm loving it. Typing on it right now and none of the defects that people have been talking about. Battery is about 4hours on 9400M at the moment, might do a calibration to see if I can bump that up a bit.

Good for you! Yet amazing, that they're completely ignoring my order, placed 5 days before yours! I talked to an Apple sales rep this afternoon about the fact that I'm in contact with others on an internet forum who told me they got theirs earlier while they ordered later, and he just said "we can't go by rumors". I guess I'd have to point him to a concrete order number that is from later than mine. But not sure how they would respond.
