also to uiop and andtwo, since your machines are likely the same 'batch' as mine, how are you finding things? no dead pixels? lid shuts nicely? speakers sound ok?

Sorry to hear things aren't going too fast for you. Just hang in there...it'll be worth the wait. ;)

As for the quality, mine seems pretty good. No dead pixels, no dents/nicks on the case, all keys are aligned properly, and the speakers sound great (seem improved over previous gen). The only disappointment was that there were some smudges on the screen right out of the box. Easily wiped off though.

Good luck, hope it comes soon. :)

My MBP was "SHIPPED" last night, but I still couldn't trace the package!! :(
How long will it take for it to fly from Shanghai to Singapore? :D

Good for you! Yet amazing, that they're completely ignoring my order, placed 5 days before yours! I talked to an Apple sales rep this afternoon about the fact that I'm in contact with others on an internet forum who told me they got theirs earlier while they ordered later, and he just said "we can't go by rumors". I guess I'd have to point him to a concrete order number that is from later than mine. But not sure how they would respond.

I think I'm in the same boat as you. However I don't think that anyone here is willing to give out their order number... What do you think they'd say if we asked to cancel?

Mine is running pretty good. No dead pixels, but I do have a small nick on the case but its not a big deal. All the keys are aligned properly as well, and the speaker is definitely much better than the previous generation. Overall the machine does feel pretty solid. The only complain i have so far is that the screen hinges seems to be kind of flimsy, meaning that it does take that much effort to open or close compared to my previous gen MBP. Don't know if that's really a complaint or more just a personal preference.

I hope you get yours soon too. Especially MacBook123.

Finally! Prepared for shipment! Nobody cares but now I can stop hitting the refresh button. Oh who am I kidding...

2.53 320 7200
Ordered: Oct 23 4:13 AM
Ships: 7-10 Business Days
Delivery: Nov 4-11
Status: Prepared for shipment as of Oct 29 12:45 AM

Ordered: Oct. 20th
Shipped: Oct. 25
Received: Oct. 28th
Config: 2.53ghz 4gb of ram 9600 512mb 320gb 7200rpm HD

So far so good. I haven't found any defects and Vista 32bit installed smoothly. Just finished installing some basic apps on both OS's and World of Warcraft seems to run ok under OSX (high quality shadows seems to cause a small bit of stutter however while in shatt and there isnt a medium quality shadow option so running at low quality shadows with everything else high right now. I'll see how it does in Vista soon). Installing my first game on the Vista partition now (Company of Heroes). Hopefully I won't have to monkey about with the drivers and the apple provided ones work smoothly.

Trackpad is kind of neat but TBH its still a trackpad and it won't be replacing my external mouse. This is my first mac though and while its a bit small I'm in love with the keyboard. It has a really nice "feel". Just going to have to get use to the mac layout compared to the windows layout.

Yay. I just woke up this morning to find tha my new MBP shipped last night, 2 days ahead of schedule. I still can't trace the package, since carrier details have not been updated yet.

"We expect your order to be delivered to your shipping address on or before 06.11.2008." <- The wait is killing me :(

Mine (2.8GHz, 320 @7200) is now being shipped back due to a noisy fan that surfaced after having it for 3 days. Hopefully I get my new machine sometime soon, I haven't even really had a chance to use it much cause I've been working so much, and it's my first Mac.

Well if you ordered thru edu channels dont get your hopes up.

Order Date: Oct 14, 2008 at 11:12 AM PDT

Due to an unexpected delay, we are unable to ship the following item(s)
by the date that you were originally quoted:

Z0G0, MACBOOK PRO 15.4 CTO
will now ship on or before
Nov 20, 2008

If I order today through regular channels I would have a 3-5 day ship estimate.

If they have the 2.5 in stock locally I think Im going to bail on this order, maybe my sales rep loosing a few bucks might sting a bit.

Looks like yours shipped just ahead of mine!!! Gosh I can't wait :) Any word on yours Macbook123?

I think I'm in the same boat as you. However I don't think that anyone here is willing to give out their order number... What do you think they'd say if we asked to cancel?

I wanted to cancel just to send them a message that they can't do this to their customers. But the two sales reps I spoke to didn't seem to care at all. When did you order yours?

Nope, but thanks for asking! I guess it's to some extent educational orders they're bumping to later, to some extent it's random, like between your and mine.

??

Hey folks.

My apple page says my MBP is 'out for delivery', but the UPS tracking page says it's still in Netherlands?

How is it possible?

So my journey is officially complete:

Ordered: Oct 22, 2008 11PM (Toronto Time)
Shipped: October 27, 2008 8:43AM (Shanghai time)
Delivered: October 29, 2008 10:06AM (Toronto Time)

The fedex guy knew exactly what was in my little brown box and told me he's been delivering macbooks out the ying yang for the past week :)

I'm happy to report my case has no scratches or dents, keyboard is aligned, and machine seems to be running smooth!

The glossiness of the screen doesn't bug me, but i can't imagine a TN panel having any worse colour shifting. oh well, its a laptop, and i've got a 23" cinema display i can plug into when i need a superscreen, so i ain't complaining.

one final note for people waiting for deliveries... mine went through a "clearance in progress" status for 24hrs right before it was delivered. it had me on pins and needles sitting on that status, but it too shall pass!

At 1am last night my order status changed to prepared for shipment and as of 8am this morning it's been shipped. The details say the package received after FedEx cutoff so my guess is it's stuck in Shanghai for a little so I probably won't see it until Monday. I'm just glad it shipped though.

MBP 2.8ghz w320GB 7.2k HD
Ordered Oct. 24th
Ships: Nov 17th
Delivered Nov. 20th.

YIKES!!!!!

Am I just special or something?
I ordered my custom configured MBP on Monday morning, never got an email saying "prepared for shipment" just an email today saying my order had shipped this morning and should be here tomorrow, latest friday.

I ordered on the 21st.

I'm bothered by the fact that you ordered on the 17th (?) and have had no news. I read in the UK shipping thread that you can get a representative to check on the status of your order in the factory (how they did it I have no idea) but if I were you I'd phone in again, and ask why identically configured orders being placed a week after yours are already being shipped.

Also, did you order the DVI cable or any other accessories?

I wanted to send them a message too, but I also thought they'd not care. However, I'm glad that I didn't cancel, as my order is prepped for shipping:

They explicitly told me that they don't pay attention to "rumors", such as me hearing on an internet forum that others laptops have shipped earlier.

I didn't order any other accessories besides the upgrade to highest CPU and 7200 rpm 320 gb hard drive.

If Apple weren't the only company making decent computers&software, I'd be long gone as their customer.

I really think there is something weird about your situation. Coz I don't think anyone has waited that long for theirs.

"unitethenations" above claims to be in the same boat as me, though he/she hasn't given details about configuration.

Having called three reps, there's nothing else I can do. The delivery estimate on their page is and has always been Oct 27-Nov 5, so unless I don't have it by Nov 5, they'll just keep telling me that I have nothing to complain about, in particular not "rumors" of other people getting theirs earlier. The problem is, they simply don't care. Even if I gave them 10 order numbers that were placed after mine but have arrived, I bet they still wouldn't care. I think the company is just doing too well at this point, so they can afford not caring.
