Here's a new idea for the series of "Post your..." threads.

Post your first Amazon.com order and the date.

Amazon.com was launched in 1995.

Webarchive.org's earliest snapshot is from December 12, 1998. You can see what the website looked like at that time.

My first order with them was on March 27, 1999 where I bought a CD.

Although the US version.

I'm pretty you're going to find that a lot of people use Amazon mainly for CDs since most don't have dedicated stores for music and Wal-Mart, Target, etc carry so little.

My first order was November 7th, 1999.

Serial Experiments - Lain: Navi (Layers 1-4)

It cost me $23.94 then. If only I had waited until now when it is $4.50!

From then through 2009 I only placed 1-4 orders a year with Amazon. Although in 2002 I placed no orders. In 2010 I got Amazon Prime and well... I'm not sure I've seen the inside of a retail store since.

My first purchased from Amazon was on April 14, 1998

The book - Futility or The Wreck of the Titan by Morgan Robertson is an 1898 novella that has an eerily similarity to the titanic. The book cover attached is quite boring so I figured an explanation was needed.

I purchased this from Amazon on April 14, 1998

I suppose I either didn't know about Amazon or just never really shopped online. I know in the late 90's I spent most of my time and money at Fry's Electronics.

If I go to my order history, the earliest year is 2004 and I bought two things.
An $80 wallet for my mother for Christmas (I assume based on the wallet it was for my mom) and on August 24, 2004, I bought a textbook (which was my first order):

****ing thing was $60. That was cheap considering the bookstore likely wanted $80-$90.
In 2005 I placed 7 orders, also all textbooks. :( Years following I can see where I buy most of my books, music, and movies.

I don't remember and the "Your Account" section at Amazon.com only goes back to 2003, but maybe that was when I established the account?

The oldest item I have on record is Peter Norton's Complete Guide to Windows XP ordered Aug 2003, $6.39.

Go to Download Order Reports and you can go all the way back.

I searched every local book store for this book. I really helped me with a lot of ideas on how to make use of a teeny, tiny back yard.

This tagged along on a whim. What a waste of money; a bag of sand and some rocks, a small box and a toy rake. At least I got my 'stupid buy' out of the way early.;)

Interesting thread. Here's my contribution:

Purchased for my girlfriend at the time, as I was moving 3 hours away and hoped to see her occasionally.

Great idea! In the UK, I can only go back to 2007, but the image is for a game I bought as a present for a friend...Can't seem to get orders earlier than that though..

I believe it was in 1995, David Bowie's Scary Monsters CD. Oh I have no idea what my Login was back then so that date is not exact. I've only ordered one or two things since then.

I was too young to use Amazon myself until 2010. My parents ordered things for me prior to that. My first order was a 50-foot Cat5e patch cable in December 2010.

This is a cool thread - I didn't realize that I could look up all my previous purchases online (though I still have all the emails).

My first order, in December 2001, was for a 64MB flash memory card for $55. You can now buy a 64GB card for less than twice that price.

2011 MLB The Show for PS3 on April 8th, 2011. Paid $52.88, its now on sale for $18.00. I've bought 56 things on Amazon since April 2011. Not everything was bought for me though. I've bought stuff for other people and they paid me back since I have Prime.
