I cant imagine the feel of some of you going from a nice thin, sleek phone to some of those antique-like thick contraptions LOL
I havent bought an iphone yet, so I didnt have to downgrade...but still using my trusty Razr that works well.
I also have a Treo 650, but it sits on a shelf until I can cancel the extra line...hate that thing.

Well I currently don't have an iPhone, but on July 11th I plan to pickup the iPhone 3G 16Gb model on the £30/mo contract from o2.

While I'm waiting, this is entertaining me ... (K810i)

Most of my friends don't quite understand how difficult it is using this phone having previously owned an iphone..

That theme is dope on that BB though. Me and my wife switched from BB Curves to iPhones and we do not regret it one bit.

well, I am the other way around,

I switched from an iPhone, to a bb curve and I really regret it. My iPhone was like a dream girlfriend to me. It would do whatever I wanted, when I wanted. And gave me a little extra, too, in safari. ;)

Help clarifying please...

sold the nokia to pay for the 3g iphone
using my old standby....smt5600

I too still have my SMT5600 from my pre-iPhone 2.5G days...so let me get this straight. If I sell my current iPhone on the bay for some coin to buy my 3G version in a few weeks...I could just throw my SIM into my SMT5600 and get the unlimited data, etc (basically the same plan features as my iPhone minus the phone)???

Then when it comes time to go buy my 3G...I don't have to actually present my 2.5G iPhone in order to allow me to cancel/void my current iPhone plan and get the new subsidized phone and new 2 year contract???

I know I read somewhere on here that all AT&T needs to know (as far as validation of me being a current iPhone owner) is that I'm paying the iPhone plan. Is this for sure?

Please advise...

Using my old ROKR E1(iPhone 0.5!) hacked to hold more than 100 songs and a 1GB microSD card. I downloaded Opera Mini, Gmail, and Google Maps for it so I can still use my data plan in a pinch to look stuff up. Just picked up this Canon A590IS as well:

One year ago this baby was the first cell phone with the new AT&T logo on it, only a month later I upgraded to the iPhone. Only the RED BB Pearl got the AT&T branding in late May. Didn't mind it, but can't imagine going back for an extended period of time.

I don't get all the people who sold their iPhone so they could be forced to use a piece of crap for a week or a month or three months.

Makes no sense to me. I don't want to be without my iPhone for a day, let alone weeks and months. Not worth it to me.

I will keep mine until the minute I replace it, at which time I will find it a new home with someone else who will appreciate it.

I agree, I'm keeping mine right up until the 11th or whenever I get the chance to go and pick up the 3G version. At that point I will likely give it to my mom, or retire my 2G iPhone to its box as a backup. It will be a classic.

we're just banking on the idea that people won't want to buy your old iPhone for $400 (8GB) when the new ones come out. This is of course yet to be seen since AT&pple will probably make it more difficult(maybe impossible) to walk out of the store without a contract. So who knows, you might be right and retain the ability to sell it at $400 to a Tmobile user or someone else who doesn't want to be tied to an AT&T contract. At the time(pre-WWDC), it seemed almost a no-brainer to me if I could sell my phone for the same price I had bought it(some even higher) based on Apple's track record of "faster and cheaper" and knowing 3G/GPS was on its way. A month without the iPhone (EDGE) is worth it to upgrade to 3G/GPS and pocket $100 on top of that to help pay for the data plan.

You may be stuck with a phone that people won't pay more than $200 for once they see the TV commercials for the newer/better ones for $199.

I guess that is where I am different. I did not buy the iphone with the intention of selling it when I stopped using it. Not even part of my thought process at all. I don't care how much it sells for... That money is not worth me not having a phone for that long. Some people sold their phones two months ago hoping to get the best price. A few hundred dollars is not worth the cost of not having the iPhone to me.

Bought this in Hong Kong unlocked during last year's deployment. I still haven't found a US carrier that sells it. Enjoyed it for the most part. Love the form factor as long as I'm using a bluetooth headset, actually talking on the phone isn't too enjoyable for long conversations since it's so thin. Also wouldn't want to use it for much more than just "phone," texting and all that can be a pain but fits great in the pocket of jeans.

Looking forward to the functionality of the iphone though I'm going to have to start looking at cases. How is everyone planning on transporting the thing on a regular basis? When not in uniform it's usually jeans and a tshirt for me and it doesn't look to conducive to jean pockets.

Definitely where we differ. My ROKR "stand-in" gives me the internet and music when I need it. It wasn't worth it for me to keep the iPhone once I saw how much they were going for on craigslist. I never intended to sell it, bought it the day of the pricedrop and absolutely loved it, but I survived without it while out of the country for a week and figured it wouldn't be the end of the world if I gave it up for a month or two while waiting for all the new functionality. So I basically rented an awesome phone for 8 months and just paid tax and data access fees. Now I'll get a new warranty(saved $69 on apple care), a shiny new phone, and some awesome new features for free, all for giving up a little functionality for 1 month...not bad if you ask me.

No WiFi but still cool to talk with close family or nearby friends.
