Please elaborate, because Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular do not do this. In the past, and on Android, AT&T and T-Mobile still split out 3G, 4G (H+), and LTE.

I forgot to clarify that I was referring to GSM devices. AT&T and T-Mobile devices will never display 3G, but rather 4G. This includes the LG G4, Galaxy S6, and all iPhones newer than the iPhone 4. Unlocked devices that aren't modified/optimized by the carrier will differentiate between them all.

To both of your questions, carriers already do. AT&T will show 3G, HSPA+, and LTE. Verizon and Sprint show 1x, 3G, and LTE. Who combines 3G and 4G?

All the major carriers also have the same speeds as Europe. Verizon gets upwards of 75-150Mbps, AT&T gets 100+, and Sprint has even had high double digit numbers.

For carrier-sold devices, 3G is bundled into 4G.

This is correct. T-Mobile and AT&T will not show 3G unless on a roaming network when the service is only HSPA, not HSPA+. Also, I was referring more to the European carriers displaying LTE as 4G, and HSPA+ as 3G, where the American Carriers display HSPA+ as 4G, and LTE instead of 4G.

It would be much less confusing for consumers to see 2G, 3G, and 4G show up for the appropriate network. Currently, GSM shows GPRS, E, 4G, and LTE. CDMA shows 1x, 3G, and LTE. Try explaining to a 60 year old that switched from Verizon to AT&T what E is.

First time i've actually seen really good speeds with AT&T! This past weekend, my wife and I took a weekend trip to Nashville, and I ran a couple of speed tests while we were staying in Franklin. One that I thought was a fluke at 1:30 in the morning, so I ran another at 10am later that day and still had great speeds. Thanks to broken Field Test, I couldn't tell which bands were aggregated, but speeds were still impressive.

Slammed at the Orlando "Premium" Outlets. Band 4 (20x20) LTE vs. band 2 HSPA+.

don't worry, it's been a bad weekend for AT&T also down here. My wife and I just moved down on Sunday, and anywhere on the south end of town we go, speeds are terrible. Normally when we are down here, we only have issues at the Florida Mall.
