Yeah I just ran my GPU at 700/900 with latest 174 drivers as well and I got 6124 in 3DMark06. Very nice improvement; though I think I'll stick with a more moderate clock; GPU was at 110 Celsius. Running at 650/880 gives me 5516 @ 85 Celsius--so much safer.

Alphaod, what resolution did you get those results at?
Nice scores..!

BTW, there was mention about the 8600M GT 128mb, regarding a mid 3000'ish score in 3DMark06.

3Dmark06 is meant to utilize GFX cards with 256mb and higher, therefore results for the 128mb version will not be completely respectable.

For more comparable results when comparing a 128mb card to a 256mb or 512mb card, use 3DMark05 to compare results, as it it utilized for 128mb GFX cards.

i ran it last night on my 2.2 ghz 128 8600GT. I got a 3516 or something close to that on 3dmark06.

3dmarkscore

Just ran 3dmark06 on my santarosa 2.4, 2gig, 256 gf8600m GT macbook pro, got around 4200 (cant remember exactly in OSX now) with stock boot camp drivers no OC, maybe my notebook cooler pad helped. just wondering my 3dmark detects my card as geforce 8600 GS with 512 mb Vram windows also detects 512 mb Vram. anyone else with same shituation, anyone know why this happens??
PS thinking of overclocking interesting results from u guys, but am worried about my precious...

Peace

Anyone having problems using RivaTuner?

I can't get my cards clock speeds to change. I'm using 171.16 drivers, which have worked for others, with no success.

GPU-Z shows my modified values, but the hardware monitor in RivaTuner remains unchanged.

Anyone able to help?:(

**EDIT**
Have been able to overclock with 169.04.
Getting 4558 555/650.
Getting 4915 555/880.
Should be able to get more if I can get the newer drivers to overclock.

What sort of temps you getting? At stock I'm getting high 70's-80 C on intensive games, I can only imagine what it would be like with that sort of clocking.

I haven't noticed a change in temps. It's a good card for overclocking. I see no reason for people not to overclock their cards with this one. Just set a profile in RivaTuner and use it when you want to play intense games. The card will run at the same temps as stock, but get you more fps.

I understand this question isn't for me, but I overclock to those as well. With stock my computer ran reach 80 on gaming, 85 now that I applied the InvisibleShield. As with OC'ing I've hit 110 when the computer just cut the power.

In fact that's the best way to fry your computer and then Apple will give you new machine because the computer "overheated"

Note: Sarcasm, joke, whatever you want to call it. I'm not serious about this one.

Here are my results

174.93 - Stock 3DMark 4313

174.93 - OC 614/854 3DMark 5564

My custom built cooling - for overclocking

Im running Windows Vista Ultimate x64 SP1

The only fact here is that temperatures remain unchanged. Please read my above post that you quoted.

From the above it sounds like you didn't get a very good card for overclocking. From what i've read, your results are a rarity.

Oh well. I only overclocked it for testing. I don't overclock for normal usage.

Bone stock "old" MBP base model. 2.4ghz, 2GB, 256mb 8600m GT

Windows XP with 180.42 drivers.

3DMark Score: 4739 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score: 1923
SM 3.0 Score: 1789
CPU Score: 2155

Not bad. I'd like to see how the new MBPs do.

Oh and can you guys post up some temps. Using HardwareMonitor i recored a peak CPU of 73C and a peak GPU of 85C. My ambient/min temps are 36C CPU and 52C GPU.

I've read the GPU should be fine up to 100C, even 110Cish.

That would require putting Windows on my shiny new Macbook Pro. I can only compare that to throwing dirt onto a new Ferrari. Why do you want to do horrible things to the new notebooks?

Jokes aside, is there a 3D test like this that doesn't require putting Windows on the machine?

No you can't.

No you can't.

Well it turns out overclocking the GPU won't work w/ the 180 drivers so i installed the 169.04s that do work.

Unfortunately the old drivers are so slow (or the new so fast?) that even decently OC'ed, i'm still 500 points behind. gah.

I found out that's it's actually pretty safe to overclock for me - I got 6200 points when overclocking to 655/880 with atitool and the newest driver. temperatures are still at 85ºC, but fans are ON. :p

early 08 2.4 ghz mbp btw.
