mac-office.jpg

Mid-2009 MBP 17 running Lion
RAM upgraded to 8Gb
Hard drives upgraded to 2 x 1Tb drives (optical drive in external case for the rare occasions it is needed)

Connected via wifi to Time Capsule with 2 x 2Tb network drives attached to it.

Above photo is my home office. I operate a paperless office, hence the clear desk (in both senses!). The iPad serves as my desk diary (I find that more convenient than using Calendar on the Mac).

In the living-room, it sits on a laptop table a friend made for me to my specs:

The iPad goes pretty much everywhere with me, the Mac goes on all trips.

my work setup...

late 2011 Macbook Pro 15, 2.4, HR-AG, 128GB SSD, 8GB RAM

mid 2010 iMac 27, i3 3.2GHz, 1TB HDD

late 2009 Mac Mini, 2.53GHz, 4GB RAM (just out of shot but plugged into the 20inch ACD)

for the most part I use Teleport to use the same mouse/keyboard accross the three Macs

iPad 2

picture taken with a Nexus One :)

just to the right of this is an octo core 2008 Mac Pro with 5 terminal services users using X-Code

also not pictured is a 2009 24inch iMac that I use for testing

Apologies for the terrible photo quality

2010 13" MBP
2.4GHz Core2
8GB Ram
250GB Hard drive

I use it every day for about 9-10 hours while I'm at work. Love this computer!!

I think you should note this as a pictures-requested thread... who wants to read through a bunch of text saying what kind of MBP you have? That's what signatures are for!

Updated

Purchased a Rain Design mStand today for my MacBook Pro. I am going to pick up an older style Aluminum ACD to complement this setup probably around Christmas (a little before or maybe a little afterwards :)).

I even got the chance to play with Windows 8 inside of VMWare...not sure if I am liking what I am seeing from MS.

I have the exact same laptop, and feel that is great, but recently I've been getting fearsome of the day its nvidia fails... hopefully it can make it to the next refresh, and then its over, not taking any more chances... although thats the same thing I've said for the past 18 months hehe

Same here, I Am just waiting for it to fail, But I Did buy mine from someone, and it seems as if it was repaired, so my logicboard is likely not very old, could even have the Non-Faulty 8600m GT. I'm Waiting for mine to fail though for an excuse to get a Unibody :D

Here is my set up, to those who ask why have more then one? Because I can :D

I don't have 2 but 3

Dude that is so epic! Great setup and Macs!

MBP early 11
Low-end 2.0
8GB DDR3
500HDD+500HDD (optibay)

Sounds weird setup. I divided the main bay into half for lion and windows (light gaming), needed more space and added another 500GB in the optibay. SSD is not a option for me now. But later who knows..

ok someone help me understand this! why do you guys buy a TBD or an ACD with your MBP? for watching videos wouldnt it be better to connect it to a plasma or lcd? i must be missing something here

Most use it as their docking station. When you're in your office you can use the MBP/A and a TBD as a desktop computer essentially. Many companies have actually switched to this method rather than giving employees a desktop. However, most companies are pretty cheap and give their employees POS Dell laptops with Docks. :p

I don't like to do this, but there are no "non-faulty" 8600m... brace yourself

Exactly. I use my 15 MBP everywhere I go. Got a TBD at home and the office. No need to transfer files, everything is always with you where ever you go. Had a imac and Air. Got sick of always transferring everything. Used drop box but files and programs are too big to transfer. Icloud runs into the same problem.

Using only one MBP fixes those problems with a TBD at home and at the office. The TBD is basically a dock with a monitor. Use the Ipad at meetings and the Iphone when I don't have either MBP or Ipad with me. I am productive wherever I am.

Trying to transition my whole office to the same setup. Will cost me about $60,000 US but the increase in productivity will be worth it in the long run. No longer need imacs or Macpros for most work. The MBP's are just as powerful almost for most tasks.

Even on the road when visiting other companies they are doing the same. Last week I hooked up my Macbook Pro to a clients TBD they had in their board room to do some last minute tweaks on a contract proposal. Worked like a charm.

I wish I could do that. And I have much more than three.

But my employees are using the rest. I just get to use one.:(

My wife would have a heart attack if I had 30+ macs in one room. Lol. Would be fun to see the look on her face and my employees asking where are there macs. Lol.

Nice setup. I like your reason the best, because I can. Do you think I can tell her that? :D

That is reason enough for me. :)

Rather than spending another $1,200 on an iMac or somewhere around there, you can save a bit of cash and headache by just getting a TBD for your MacBook Pro. Cash because you don't have to spend on an iMac, and headache because all your files are on one computer.

I never will go back to a two computer setup again!

Agreed. I upgraded my MBP to twin 1Tb drives for that very reason: with 2Tb storage, I can have everything I need on board wherever I happen to be.

Yeah I don't see the advantage of companies handing out these plastic old gen HP laptops. I work for a large global consulting firm so I guess the cost would be too high. they did just giveus iPhones so you never know.

Lol not to add fluff to this thread, but i came in expecting to see pictures of macbook pro setups, but came in disappointed because everyone is just posting stats about their laptops lol
