@Erik, I've seen people take the screen lid from an iBook G4, and put a clock behind it so the hands (obviously) stick out and you have a nice little iClock! Now if the person also put light behind the Apple logo, that would be amazing!

That's my intention. I want to set up a light behind the logo and around the outside edges (so you get a glowing effect). It's a project I have had on my mind for some time, but I know what I'm trying for and I don't want to take shortcuts to get there. So, when I get enough of all this other crap off my plate I will eventually look into that.

The cool thing is that because the back came from a 17" PowerBook, it will be as big as I can get it!

When my first G5 died a horrific death, I kept the RAM, Hard drives, video card, fans, heatsink cover, and the side panel! I am going to make a huge iClock out of the heavy metal door of the G5.

Erik, this is war for the biggest iClock!

You win!

I replaced that LCD four years ago, so I'm not getting to this anytime soon, LOL!

Strangely enough, that's what I am planning for the side panel of the B&W that nobody wanted, but if I go for the glowing Apple idea the clock face will go to one of the bottom corners.

An idea for a competition - the best iClock?

Cheers :)

Hugh

Just so there's no confusion, mine won't be a clock. All I'm going for is a light panel, lamp, whatever you want to call it. No clock.

It's intended to be a soft glowing kind of art object. Something you'll see on the wall that will invoke the thought "Apple shrine!" That kind of thing. :p

Hey, I have an old iBook G4 screen cover! I could shove an LED behind it and throw an old clock into it and see how that works out, LOL. This could indeed be an interesante competition..

Are we trying to brighten up the iShrines that we all have?

OK, first to complete the job (with or without clock) starts a new thread, then the rest post into it when they've finished √

Saves cluttering up this thread

Cheers :)

Which forum? Just this one? Unfortunately I won't be able to complete mine for a while, I've got a TON of finals ahead of me this week. :(

Same here. We shall make an iClock thread when the time comes!

Well, I'm glad at least we're on the same page! I figured I'd be a loner :p
I did have a little time tonight to look at LEDs online, and can't find anything better than a string or something that would be battery operated. Maybe sometime next week I can check out a hardware store in town.

I did put my G4 onto my new monitors briefly, is was pretty fun, but for getting stuff done i still revert to the Mac Pro 1 1, which goes cheaper than a lot of G5's in the UK

Taken earlier this week…

There are seven Macs in this room. Two PowerBook G4s are out of frame, but of the ones you can see…two PowerBook G4s, one iBook G4, one iMac G5 and one PowerMac G4 Quicksilver!

What are those two PowerBook G4s for? I thought you had your two 17"ers; what are these for?

Is that a PB G4 Ti on the couch?
Yes, that is my son's 1.0Ghz Titanium DVI.

The Titanium is my son's PowerBook. The other one across from it (that you can just see with the Apple logo on the back of the LCD) is my 17" 1.0Ghz.

My wife's 12" PB and my other 17" 1.67ghz are the two I said you cannot see. They are in the room but the 17" was in my bag and my wife's 12" was to my right (and thus not in the picture).

EDIT: With the lights on…

Welcome to MacRumors! That is actually a really nice display and G4. You could run Leopard on there and have a really modern feeling machine! Though Tiger isn't bad at all, Leopard definitely has better software support for more modern programs. Your Mac has plenty of power to run it.
