Apple site lists unlocked iPhone 5 as two variety one with t-mobile SIM and one with out t-mobile SIM.

I think t-mobile version of iPhone 5 is unlocked also :)

Any one tried ATT sim in t-mobile iPhone 5? Thanks!

Yes, it is unlocked. It just comes with a unactivated T-mobile nano sim. I got mine this morning.

I bought one this morning from the T-Mobile store down the street from my house, Apple Store was to far. Paid for the phone outright, put in my AT&T sim. The phone is locked, takes me to the activation screen. Get the sim not valid message. Contacted T-Mobile to get the phone unlocked, faxed them the receipt. They gave me a 14-day response time, hopefully it a lot faster. So i think all the ones bought from Apple Store will come unlocked already.

Also the T-Mobile model starts with an ME, so I guess that a way to distinguish from the current iPhone 5s out.

Argh, Thanks! It is locked t-mobile then. Hope they are flexible than ATT's strict 24 months contract or pay off.

Thanks.

No problem, yeah T-mobile a lot more flexible. If you get a phone on contract with them, it about 2 month/60 days after getting the phone, that you should be able to unlock the phone with them. As long the account is in good standing as well at the time of the unlock request. I'm basing this from their current unlock policy, I doubt they would change it for the iPhone.

interesting, they should be just selling one; does not make sense unless you are new t-mobile customer :D

It is how they differentiate it from the old models. Probably at some point they will list it as one item. But for now, buying the T-Mobile unlocked version is the only way to guarantee it is the new one with AWS support.

+1.

did the same thing, got the same message.

Yes was T-Mobile version. But it is unlocked too, put in an AT&T sim and it worked.

(Purchased from Apple Store full price, device only)

Thanks.

if we pay $649 full price - I think it is given unlocked, only question arises when we buy from t-mobile at $580. it is also confirmed it is locked to t-mobile if you buy from them and need put up a request to unlock them.

Hope they keep the 60 day unlock policy for those who use $20 installment plan.
