How much different could it look? I'm really not sure what everyone was expecting. Maybe the camera's vertical for a reason, and the ugly antenna lines are gone.

I was referring to Touch ID not the design of the phone itself.

Moving touch id to back side is a major User Interface change for millions of people..I am so used to use my thumb while pressing the touch id to unlock...it will be a painful change to use index finger for touch id on back side..
Front scanner is the best implementation. I hate it on the back so I really hope these leaks are fake. I have my phone laying flat all the time and it's nice to be able to touch the home button to wake the phone up to see notifications without lifting it up. Putting it on the back makes it so I have to pick it up to see notifications, which is a huge step backwards.

I REALLY hope these mockups are fake or early stage prototypes.

Reading all articles, it seems Apple is definitely working on embedding touch id in the glass on the front. So there is no point in moving touch sensor to back and then moving it to front in next iteration when front sensor is ready. If they must delay the launch, they should do that but keep user interface consistent.

It's as hideous and uninspired as trying to "tweak" a powerpoint slide without breaking the company theme. Hence, it must be true. It's become a Cook era norm that the uglier the leak, the higher the chance it will represent the end product. Furthermore, I noticed this CAD abomination reposted by Fabien Wanner, an Apple developer, on his Instagram account a couple days ago. You don't need to look as far as Weibo, people. Whenever this guy posts a pre-release image (and he does so with abandon, so much for doubling down on secrecy when your own staff spreads and gloats over leaks), then it's a done deal.

Sad.

When you look at the drawing closer you see that it's not even drawn properly. The back shows it's round, but the side elevation shows it flatter.

The biggest drawing mistake is the screen. It's drawn as if bulges out not flush with the face. WHF?

So whatever this is. Maybe a recreation of what someone saw, but certainly not a professional drawing for a real part.

reading thru some of those comments are priceless lol. But you hit what was my point exactly we don't know what the final design will look like it's fun to speculate but lets not roll out the pitchforks until September when this thing is launched. Or at least until more leaks come out.
And the funny part is those leak were the real phone not schimatic of the phone and people hated it !!

Apple always has a knack to make things 'work' (not to steal their catch phrase.)

How often do these leaks come out and we all say EW! NO! HATE IT! then we get it and we're like HM! It works! I like it!

Remember the static home button when that leaked? Now I cant imagine having to depress a button because I'm acclimated to the new home button.

Wait and see folks. Im sure we'll all love it and drink the Koolaid come fall.

Thanks for the encouragement! Let's trust that Steve's relentless refusal to accept good-enough lives through for this year's release... I still feel the moment they moved the camera lens off the proportional top left in the iPhone 5, apple lost a part of Steve's aesthetic knack for balance! Till then hope these fuel inspiration of what could be (p.s. it's a virtual (not-recessed) home button):

Same here. I have a iPhone 6, and an S7 Edge. I have had the same experience. The Edge looks great, but using it is terrible. Almost impossible to use without a case - so many unintended touches on keyboard, it's literally unusable. With a case on, it's a bit better, but still *****.

No curved screens? Let this be true! I'm using a Galaxy S7 Edge now as my iPhone 7 Plus is in for services and even though it's a beautiful phone I do really hate the curved screens. I'm touching the sides all the damn time while typing on the keyboard etc messing things up 9 out of 10 times. It's horrible. Let the iPhone 8 have a flat screen please.

Rear touch ID? Curved edges? No & no. I will pass.

Good, Apple doesn't need your type of customer with resistance to change. If they have to put the fingerprint sensor on the back because the underneath the screen sensor isn't ready, then I will gladly take a smaller phone with the same screen size as a tradeoff. As far as curved screens go, I agree that they are a gimmick. However, I don't think Apple will make the curve such that it affects the reading of text, etc. Move to the side as the innovation train moves forward.

Hmmm, it looks an awful lot like the S8 which is now the Android flagship.
I wouldn't get the S8 either. Fingerprint sensor right next to the camera is a massive failure when it comes to design decisions. I would probably buy a Xiomi Mi Mix 2.

I do not believe too much these pictures. counterfeit mockup is indeed within the reach of most people. In this case, a printer and a pair of scissors would be enough to produce similar models.

Look at the iphone 6
you mean the phone that shattered sales records of the time for apple and became the best selling iphone ever up to that year?? 74.5 million sold, that one? yeah I saw it a few times...really ugly. No one liked it lol. thanks for your worthless snarky comment.

I just straightforwardly replied to you post. Looks like you were the one being snarky.

not going to happen...that is awful looking

This could be one of multiple Touch ID sensors. It could also be a design designed to intentionally confuse people, that was never even considered for actual production.

Getting people all pissed off over something like that could work to one's favor IMO. First you would have people talking about your product (not positively, but it is in the news nonetheless and you don't even have to invest money in marketing) - then, on release day, when those people are going to come back to watch the release intending to grumble about the ugly/stupid design, you wow them with something spectacular.

Face it, this is the next iPhone. Every year there were leaks and every year they turned out to be true, although everyone at first said "noooo, it just CAN'T be true...! the camera bump, impossible! those ugly lines, Apple would never do THAT...! those huge bezels, no way that's going to happen......" yet here we are.. so yes, prepare yourself for TouchID on the back, it's happening...

I was referring to the yet to be released iPhone. Aside from shrinking the bezels how much can you really change? Every smart phone has the same basic shape now, except for gimmicks like adding a second screen or having curved edges.

How can you hate something you haven't seen?

So the iphone 7S isn't a yet to be released iphone? Last time i checked they haven't released it yet. They put a bean counter in charge, like scully. Steve made great products, first and foremost. He knew if he did that the rest would fall into place.

The simple fact that Apple looks like everyone else is proof they failed. That was never the case on Steves watch.Remember the slogan" think different".
Well thats gone. Apple was always reinventing itself, always ahead of the competition and always innovating. Thats gone too.

You are either too young or drinking the kool-aid to get what i am saying.

1).From not updating their desktop line in years! Remember the Mac started it all. No Mac no Apple!
2).To getting rid of whole product lines that compliment other products to enhance the user experience. Not profit. Example: airport line of routers, displays etc.
3).From not updating their iphone design in years. Iphone 7S.
4).Releasing a $17000 diva gold Apple watch!
5.) releasing a larger phone with different specs? WT***. Ask yourself if Steve would have done this! So if you like a smaller phone you're stuck with a inferior device.

Or a larger phone in general. Steve would have put out a larger screened phone in the same foorprint of the 4.7 iphone years ago.

My guess is the iphone 6 plus would not exist. Basically he would have only one iphone. He believed in devices getting smaller not bigger. Basically we would have had a device similar to the iphone 8 years ago. Dont believe me? Look at the original iphone prototypes.

They touted the user experience with every new product. How and the why. When is the last time they did that? One handed use was important. Better believe he would have gave us a larger screen with one handed use.
They simply did not have the technology then. Hopefully they return to their roots and release one phone that sits comfortably in your one hand with a large screen.

I can go on and on. Put hopefully you get the idea.

I am rooting for them. I am hoping they return to what made them great in the first place. Just make great products and think about the user experience. Thats it.

Sadly most Apple users forget what Apple used to be. By making excuses for them. Hanging on to what little is left.

Tim Cook said after Steve passed, he said Steve will live on with the vision he left for Apple. Once people forget what Apple stood for, Steve will truely be dead.
