Negative press about glare? Meh, I think the only negative comments are on forums like here - where a select group of people that can never be pleased like to whine. I'm sitting in front of a MBP 15-inch right now and glare is not an issue at all
If you can control the lighting but it I am behind a window you cant see a thing. The glassy screens make me sick literally, I get a really bad headache in front of it to long. The black trim makes the screen worse imo too

The fact of the matter is our complaints will only have a chance of being read by Apple when posted online. Apple will never know if we complain about the screens to our friends (and believe me, we do);)

I was initially a bit worried when the first glossy screens came (both in PC world and in white Macbook) but I noticed that they were actually quite good and I've liked them since (despite having a matte MBP along the way). The LED backlights do help overpower the glare.

I suggest to the OP to go down to a store to try it out. It's a personal thang how much the glare disturbs you.

Yup. I DON'T notice it. In the Apple Store, it gave me a headache, but at home, even in direct sunlight like right now (ahhh, naturally lit house!), it does not bother me one bit. And I have very sensitive eyes, like on really sunny days, I get headaches due to the intense light. The glossy screen is underrated. It gives colors a pop and I highly recommend it.:)

yea its true, i have a 24" iMac facing a very bright window (at times) and its not noticable.. my brain seems to be able to ignore the glare :p

I have no problem with it and actually didn't even notice it at the mac store.
Yes, its more reflective than normal glossy screens, but i think some people are completely over-reacting about it IMO. If you don't like it, you get used to it, or you buy something to reduce the glare.

95% of the time I don't work with a window behind me, so its not a problem for me. Working with a window behind you on ANY glossy-screened computer is not a good idea anyway. I suggest moving your desk if this is you.

The glare is by far the worst feature of the MBP for audio, then the screen resolution (both 13" & 15"). I use the 13" MBP with Logic and if I'm working alone it works OK. If there are a few other band members lurking behind your back and giving comments about the mix or whatever, they can't see much because of the glare and I need to adjust the screen all the time. That sucks with all the cables plugged in but I'll manage. Might change to matte screen if that becomes available in the future updates.

I have the 17" MBP (Mid 2009) with the glossy screen. This mbp was my first mac. I spent time at the apple store looking at both glossy and matte before deciding on the matte. While I have had some adjustment to this glossy screen, I have to say now that I prefer the glossy screen to the matte screen.

Oh my god! You were right! Here it is facing me directly! No glare whatsoever! Thanks for solving the glare problem for me!

LOL!!! I guess I should go back to the 15" I just sold only so I could get a 17" with a matte screen. Or maybe NOT?

There's another problem about the current 15": resolution is too low and the bezel unsightly fat. Letters on the display look blotchy. I highly recommend the 17". It's only a hint larger (really not that much because the larger display is absorbed in the thinner bezel), yet can fit 77% more information.

Other advantages I can think of now are noticeably better speakers, more silent fans, and longer battery life.

All that for only 1 extra pound.

IMHO the design is nicer without the glass and black bezel.

The hype of GLARE is overblown in my opinion.

I mean it's a laptop. so easy to move around a child could do it.

Now that I have been using gloss displays for over a year, I wont go back to matte.

That's just my .02 cents !
