I've never heard of a repair for the sleep/wake button, Apple themselves said that there is no repair for the sleep wake button. Where is your info coming from?

What's with you and this "where's your info coming from" repetition. I just told you my friend had his button fixed versus having the whole device replaced. My info is coming from my friend who told me when I asked him how his Genius Bar appointment went. If he was mistaken, I doubt it. Since he would've told me he had to reload all his stuff. Where's YOUR info that says they don't do that repair?

I bought it orginally in december and for some reason the power button doesn't always work. The contract is with vodafone so if I take it into the store would apple just replace it and give me a new replacement at all? which would be ideal as I plan to sell it and selling it new would be better.

or would i need to go to vodafone as thats where i got it from orginally via new contract.

I brought my iphone 5 (AT&T) in, one side of power button not working, they gave me a replacement iPhone 5...if you're ok with that, then it shouldn't be a problem, as I've heard this is what they do for most (some have had trouble getting apple to replace, not sure why, but they won't repair it). The first iphone 5 had a button problem after less than 2 months, the new one has lasted since (9 months) with no issues.

I took my MacBook Pro (laptop) with me and sync'd it just before I gave it to them. Then, with the new one, I sat there and set it up as new, then restored from backup, this got all my info. back on (including texts), synced it (except music, that takes too long, did this at home later) to make sure the new one would be fine (but, I live over an hour away from an Apple store).

I get my info from Apple. Directly.

8 different stores, AppleCare on the phone plus I know 3 different people that work for Apple that all said there are no guides or parts or instructions for fixing a sleep wake button on any iPhone ever made.

Jeez, that's funny because I saw parts and guides yesterday.

those are refurbs but Apple doesn't call them that.

I think for sleep/wake buttons it's a chronic issue that they can't fix the affected devices. which would explain why there is no repair bulletin on how to repair.

I seriously doubt there is no way to repair, it just takes a bit of work, something they don't do in-store. I'm guessing these get repaired, new battery put in and sent to appropriate carriers...as the carriers sell refurb iPhones online (at least AT&T does). Apple does not sell refurbs, but, warranty replacements are, likely, refurb units (unless they are out of stock).

I am not one to get caught up in semantics.

Regardless of what Apple calls their devices that have been initially sold and then repaired, offered as a warranty or out of warranty replacement, it's still a refurbished device to me. Depending on which genius tech you may speak to, some will say almost everything is new but the cpu. While others say that the device is tested and only items that need replacing are replaced and then given out as a warranty replacement.

Power button doesn't work on Iphone 5..will apple replace it if I take it in store?

just don't tell the people at the apple store it was Accidently damaged and you should be ok since its under warrenty!

They do, but I think it's online only.

Yes, Apple sells refurbs...of just about everything they make, however,

Apple does not sell refurb iPhones. Returned/repaired iPhones (which also get new batteries) are used in apple stores for exchange only. The rest go to the carriers and are only sold online (and come with a new warranty).

Go ahead and find an iPhone for sale in apple's refurb section of apple's online store: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals

It was faulty not damaged. Home button not working wasn't down to it getting damaged.

Same here, I didn't have to say anything about how it happened as it just stopped working correctly. The "genius" said that they've had this issue with some iPhone 5/4/4S's.

I couldn't use the button sometimes, seemed random until I read somewhere that it's usually only one side of the button that is not working...I was able to use the button if I pressed on the left side of it, but not the right, until I got it replaced.

Sooo, sorry to bump a thread that's a few months old, but a quick google search brought me here and my issue is relevant ITT.

I'm having the same issue as everyone else, sleep/wake/power button only works on the left side and I have to press REAALLLLLLLLLLY hard for it to work. Sometimes I press as hard as I can and it still doesn't work, I'll have to do it 2-3x , pressing hard enough that it hurts my fingers sometimes, no joke.

I can take the phone in, no problem, there is an apple store really close to me. However, my screen is cracked, see attachment.

Is this gonna be an issue for them to fix the button? I'll probably have to pay for a new screen since they don't repair the buttons (according to some ITT)... Or do they? Lol.

Thanks for any responses/help!!

Depends what other damage there is to the phone. If its clearly been dropped and the screen has cracked, then your warranty is most likely to be void so they won't repair your lock button issue.

However you could try and waggle a deal with them, you pay less than the usual cost for repairs because the main issue you're concerned with is the lock button not working and it's a common issue on most iPhone 5's.

Where is your info for Apple saying that they can't repair the sleep wake button?

They can replace quite a few bits inside the recent phones - batteries, vibrate motors, docks/speakers, most buttons, cameras, the receiver, etc, etc.
