Screen sharing was on, so tried to connect with cMP....
It shows up in Network, but unable to connect......
It may be coz Firewall is on (on the G5)...?
Currently have my cMP connected via Ethernet to router, so I presume just connect the G5 to the other Ethernet port.
AFP/SMP compatibility problems between PPC-Mac/OSX_Leopard and >ElCapitan-macOS ... (see here #1 )
What's the version of OSX/macOS on Your cMP?

After a five year hiatus, I’m so pleased to announce I have a G5 again - namely a 2005 2.0Ghz Dual Core.

It’s in excellent condition and came with 5Gb RAM so for my needs requires no further upgrade - I have no complaints about the GeForce 6600 LE GPU either, despite forum experts proclaiming it a POS….

Like my Quads before it is doesn’t suffer from thermal problems and if anything the fans on this are even quieter.

For some reason, folk on Youtube seem to think the G5 is dead in the water for getting online, so I’ve done a video showing it web surfing, doing Social Media, playing 720P Youtube, streaming bandcamp and playing local 1080P h264 video.

A little late to the party regarding this thread but congrats and welcome back to PM G5 land. :) I've long sung the praises of the PM G5 and will refrain from repeating what I've already written at length elsewhere in the forum. It's my fave PPC Mac and in my opinion, the fact that it continues to hold up so well is testament to the machine's impressive quality of engineering.

I look forward to seeing what marvels you'll grace us with in the coming weeks/months. :D

10.5.8 on the G5, and 10.14 on the cMP.
So You may try to replace the AppleFileServer.app on Your cMP with the version coming from Leopard on Your G5 in order to reestablish compatibilility (http://www.applefool.com/se30/#leopardfileserver).
Mind, that You'll have to disable SIP (#2) before trying to replace that file.
Both FileSharing and ScreenSharing depend on the fitting AFP-version.
I'd like to use FileSharing between old PPC-Macs with os9 and intel-Macs (mine currently running on ElCapitan).
AFP on os9 only allows connections to OS X 10.1 - 10.5.
Currently I use a workaround to connect os9 to a virtual LeopardServer-session on ElCapitan.
Yesterday I found a very promising link about how replacing /System/Library/CoreServices/AppleFileServer.app in Yosemite by the same file from Leopard can reachieve AFP-connections between os9 and late OS X.

i remember when i used to have a dual-core G5... it died due to heat stress on the northbridge.
now i have a dual processor 2GHz G5 from 2003, but i'd love to give it some tlc with max ram and a 6800 ultra. could probably throw in an old 240 gig SSD while i'm at it

Thanks for the advice......
I am not that desperate to 'screen share', it was more of a 'let's give it a go'.

Don't want to start messing with settings on my cMP, as it's running nicely.....;)

I may try it between my G4 PB and G5, both on 10.5.8.

Oh, replacing that file was not a big deal on my early2008 MBP with ElCapitan.
I guess, I'll give that a try on my mid2012 nr MBP with Mojave tonight (it has SIP deactivated anyway due to problems with VMware Fusion).
I'll let you know ...

Update:
just succeeded in replacing Mojave's AppleFileServer.app with the version, that comes with Leopard(PPC).
(As I was told, that file is identical to the one for Leopard(intel).)
ScreenSharing/FileSharing between Leopard(PPC) on my PowerBookG4 and Mojave on my mid2012 15"MBP9,1 works like a charm.
I also successfully cross-checked that FileSharing/ScreenSharing between Mojave and BigSur isn't harmed by having the AppleFileServer.app file replaced by it's older version.
Here some screenshots ...
(it's quite nifty to have more than one user-account on the faster intel/Mojave-Mac. User-accounts, that can be accessed through FileSharing/ScreenSharing from the PPC-Mac in the background, while someone else is sitting in front of the intel/Mojave-Mac working within his/her very user-account ...
So that makes the intel/Mojave-Mac sort of a terminal-client server for attached PPC-Macs)

Well, I am glad to say I finally found my grail G5! A 2.3 dual core. I just hope it arrives in good condition. It was sold as bootable but nothing else was tested. I have bought from this seller in the past. His prices with shipping on some machines are too good to be true but that are! I did have a minor problem with a Performa 640CD. The front bezel broke in transit. To be fair, they are delicate machines.

@Dronecatcher are you able to use the regular desktop version of Facebook on yours? Are the limitations on the non-mobile versions of Facebook and Youtube more browser related?

Desktop FB and full Youtube grind along on my i5 Mac (FB especially) so I'd never subject a PowerPC to them anymore.
You might mitigate some of the bloat with a script blocker but often key functionality disappears with it.

I am trying to find one locally. I don't want to risk another damaged case
That was 'literally' seconds after I read your post, without much searching.
There must be some in the US also, near you.

Don't know how difficult it is to rebuild....🤔

Unless you have a specific reason to keep it I would recommend you return it as it is now not what you purchased. If anything maybe the seller will offer a discount as return shipping would cost them.

I sent them pictures. I probably should have just started the return process on eBay. I'll give him until Monday to respond.

If he wants it shipped back, I am worried about more damage happening that I can then be liable for.

I would hold off on opening a case with Ebay. Let the seller have an opportunity to respond and see if you can work something out. If you have to send it back send it in the same packaging in which you received it. Thus, if there is further damage you can point to the inadequate packaging to bolster your case.

I had a situation where I purchased a G5 from Ebay. Prior to doing so I reached out to the seller and explained to them that it needed to be packaged well, sent him a couple of pictures of damaged units so that he could see what typically happens, and stated I would be returning it if there was any shipping damage. He said he would package it extremely well. It arrived and, unsurprisingly, it was damaged. He offered to refund the purchase price but expected me to still cover the shipping. I told him that was a strong no and the best way he could keep from losing more money on this transaction was to just let me keep it and refund all my money. We couldn't come to an agreement on this and in the end I ended up using Ebay's buyer protection which resulted in my shipping the system back to him at his cost.

The G5 boots and seems to work. Obviously, I still need a new case though. I tried running the ASD disc and I keep getting this message. I know this is the right version for this computer.
