Again beyond embarrassing. What happened to the Apple of the old days?

No longer having a product experience obsessed CEO

Of course, Tim has claimed he uses every Apple product, every single day

If you already have the Powerbeats 1 and they still work, or if you find a good deal on the Powerbeats 1, just go with those (this coming from someone who has both 1 & 2)
I was looking forward to replacing my PowerBeats 1 because of the finicky charging issue, but I agree. 2 offers limited advantages over 1. I thought maybe hardware limitation for whatever reason until the article said it worked on Android. 🙄 Whoever "designed" this on the iOS side should be fired. It really is as simple as that. This basic functionality is implied by the item itself.

Honest question: Why would you hook up your headphones directly to the machine anyway? I would think you'd want the biological information from the gym equipment to be shared with the phone which also gets the information that the headphones have, with your phone being the central hub rather than the gym equipment.

I'm surprised as the green heart rate lights illuminate a dark room while in use - I keep the feature turned off.

This is obviously apple testing the viability of having optical sensors (maybe even cameras) on these devices, which I'm excited for.

Some machines are really fancy and have great onboard entertainment options (including TV/Movies, etc)

I've also been in hotel fitness centers with no cell connection (if one is into streaming) and super spendy WiFi I didn't want to pay for. This one didn't impact me as I keep a local music library on my phone, but I know I'm not the norm anymore on that.

I like my Powerbeats 2. They are typically connected to my watch (which is monitoring HR or my heartrate strap is) or my phone. They work great. I wouldn't let one edge case (for me) stop me from buying/liking them.

Apple has to have a reason to sell the AirPod Pro 3 with HR tracking and exercising for more money...
Well to be fair, Powerbeats Pro 2 cost the same $249 price as the current AirPods Pro 2. So your theory would require them increasing the price of AirPods Pro 3.

Which I suppose they can do. But then it would reach a point where you can buy an Apple Watch SE on sale and a decent moderately priced pair of earbuds for around the same price.

Yeah, but in that case, these Beats would work fine. They can interface directly with the gym equipment while using the heart rate sensors, they just can't play audio from your phone at the same time.

Apple has never cared about such comparisons when doing price raises

I expect a price bump on nearly every single new or updated product this year (and perhaps the next)

Come on people, what do you expect for $250? Do you really expect to use 2 basic features AT THE SAME TIME?

Do you think this is 2015, and we are in a Back To The Future movie? Oh wait, nevermind... It is 2025 now and Yes, it should work...

I see the issue now that I'm watching the video, and I get the frustration

Doing HIIT workouts (like Sprint intervals), for instance, it's really nice to have HR displayed/tracked on gym equipment, but I'd want my own music off my phone for that (I have custom songs I've chopped up for that exact type of workout), and these can't do that

It's basically pick one device to connect the Beats to, for everything, it sounds like

I'm sure this will get downplayed by many, by understand the more hardcore exercise user frustrations.
It's an odd limitation in 2025 and with where BT tech is at this point

Just get an Apple Watch. Idk why anyone would want their headphones to take their heart rate then display in on some gym equipment. My watch takes my HR, tracks it, shares it with me privately..
What's so wrong about your heart rate displayed in public? You don't want others to see your fitness level?
