Hopefully they fixed the charging issue on the original power beats pro. Sometimes when you put the earphones in the case, the charging ports wouldn't line up exactly and the earphones wouldn't charge. Other than that, the powerbeats pro were my favorite ear phones.

I find that the heart rate sensing with these doesn't make much sense if it's going to default to the Apple Watch when you have that on, because don't most people that would buy these already workout with an Apple Watch already? If you run with a Garmin, wouldn't you want your Garmin watch heart rate to sync with Garmin and passthrough to Apple Health if you care?
The likely reason for the delay on these is that they were trying to get the heart rate sensor to be more accurate, and they just couldn't get it to work the way they wanted. I suspect we will see this change in the future when they update them, although I also suspect these still use the "trust me bro, I'll update when I want to" function for some reason.

Also, Garmin doesn't support the PBP2 heart rate sensor at this time anyway.

So it does not do lossless with 99.99% of devices in use?
Or does it?

Why apple needs to keep all codec info as a secret?

It's a proprietary codec that requires two H2 chips to talk to each other. The prevailing theory on why it's Vision Pro exclusive is that the AirPods are always a few inches from the device.

Hoping this opens up. Would be really cool if case had H2 chip inside and worked as usb-c dongle for low latency lossless.

I hope the durability is much better than the Beats Fit Pro I currently have. Bought them sometime in May so about 7-8 months old when some weeks ago I started noticing the audio in the right earbud was sounding distorted, like a constant whiny background noise. Seems something has gone bad with the ANC, as the distortion disappears if I disable ANC. They definitely did not sound this way from the start and the left earbud has no such distortion.

Thankfully we have excellent consumer laws and mandatory warranties in this part of the world, so will be demanding a replacement. Maybe once replaced I'll sell them and upgrade to the Powerbeats Pro 2 instead.
With the charging history problems, I'm definitely waiting for these to come to Costco before i buy them.

Hi, would you say they’re an upgrade from the original Air Pods Pro? In terms of sound quality and especially noise cancelling. It was mentioned these are about a step under Air Pods Pro 2

Haven't been keeping up, but does that mean when the pros 3 release, it'll have a new H3 chip?

There are aftermarket "wingtips" for Airpods, but you have to take them off to recharge the Airpods since they won't fit inside the charging case while installed.
There are also ear hooks, like this:

I've been using this with my AirPods Pro 2. I love how securely they hold the AirPods in my ears, but it's a pain to take them on and off every time I use the AirPods. I've taken to putting them on and keeping them on until the AirPods run out of battery before taking them off and putting the AirPods back into the case to recharge. I have a carrying case that came with another brand of earphones that I keep them in.

For me, the hassle is worth it because I use the AirPods Pro 2's hearing aid function, so I tend to keep them in my ears for extended periods of time. But if the PowerBeats Pro ever got the hearing aid function, I'd be extremely tempted to switch!

Just curious, I ordered yesterday and my pair are showing out for delivery today. Is anyone else showing theirs out for delivery?
Yes, I live a couple hours away from the warehouse in Lebanon, TN. Mine were on the UPS truck for delivery today at around 6 a.m.. It is 2:18 Eastern and they are still out for delivery. I will get them this evening at the normal time UPS goes by my house.

Mine just got delivered. Right off the bat I noticed that as we all suspected, these appear to have more bass in the sound then AirPods Pro 2. Also noted that they do not have an adaptive mode like AirPods. I wonder if the day 1 firmware update adds that. The headphones appear to have a magnetic type connection when you put them in the case to ensure they snap in.

It sounded to me like a little bit more separation than my APP2’s. But I am half deaf now also. It did have more bass though. I think I will keep and get rid of the AirPods.

I forgot to mention the ear hooks option, thanks for pointing it out. From what I've read, it's easier to remove these ear hooks from the Airpods when it comes time for a recharge, than to remove the "skin" with wingtip alternative.

which makes it a lesser option. One more thing you have to keep track of.
Yeah, it sounds like an annoyance. Makes me wonder if there's anything inside the upper half of the Airpods charging case--if not, maybe the inside bottom cover on that upper half could be removed to make room for the wingtips, though the skin would also have to not interfere with placing the Airpods into the main, bottom half of the case.

I also got mine yesterday. Fit is good — if you liked the original, as I did, you’ll like these too — but the sound was pretty dreadful: thin and tinny, not rich at all. I’m going to see what the firmware update does, but I was really unimpressed. I actually don’t use ANC when running (in LA, need to be able to hear cars), but the ANC also seemed very weak.

20 minutes in. Some notes:

- These get WAY louder than APP2. Sound Quality is a tough call since ears are very trained on APP2 acoustics. Overall not bad though.
- Wasn't super evident in reviews to me, but confirming heart sensors are on both earbuds. It's a bit of a head scratcher since most people working out would use the watch. My hope / theory is that there's a future use case for these sensors and/or Apple is testing having optical sensors on board the earbuds.
- Forgot how much the ear hooks help with weight. That and the redesign make these feel lighter than APP2, which I wasn't expecting.
- Case does not have watch charger compatibility or built-in wireless (earbuds need to be inside to see case charge). Would imagine that extends to find my.

Overall happy with the product. I think we'll be seeing similar form factors in the future as the ear hooks are a logical way to include huge batteries. Obvious play is having cameras for apple intelligence, but of course social acceptance is biggest hurdle to that atm.

Apple's Beats brand is officially introducing the Powerbeats Pro 2 today, bringing significant updates to the wireless earphones aimed at active users. Among the upgrades for Powerbeats Pro 2 are Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) with Transparency mode, Personalized Spatial Audio, an H2 chip for improved power efficiency and Apple ecosystem integration, and for the first time in an Apple audio product, Heart Rate Monitoring.

We got an early preview of the Powerbeats Pro 2 a couple of weeks ago and have been able to spend additional time with them since then, so be sure to check out our hands-on video above for full impressions, and read on below for details on the specs.

Apple has been teasing the Powerbeats Pro 2 with celebrity appearances since last year, so we've known for quite a while that they feature a redesigned body but retain their trademark earhook that helps secure them during vigorous physical activity.

With the Powerbeats Pro 2, the earhook is 50 percent smaller than on the original Powerbeats Pro and has been reinforced with a nickel–titanium alloy for greater flexibility and comfort, making it easy to slip on while ensuring it snaps back into shape for a secure fit. An IPX4 rating means Powerbeats Pro 2 are sweat and water resistant, while upgraded venting and a fifth ear tip size (XS, S, M, L, XL included) help ensure a comfortable fit.

The redesigned body reduces weight by 20 percent compared to the original Powerbeats Pro, but efficiency improvements delivered by the H2 chip boost battery life of the buds themselves to 10 hours with ANC off compared to 9 hours with the previous generation. The onboard battery in the case pushes total battery life to 45 hours, up significantly from the previous 24 hours even though the case is 33 percent smaller. The case is also the first ever from Beats to support wireless Qi charging in addition to USB-C.

On the audio performance side, the Powerbeats Pro 2 feature a redesigned acoustic architecture with a custom-designed dual-layer transducer plus a host of modern Apple earphone features that were missing from the previous generation: Active Noise Cancellation with Transparency mode to selectively allow outside sound in, Adaptive EQ to adjust frequencies in real-time for optimal sound, and Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking to make it feel like sound remains anchored to the device that's playing it.

Powerbeats Pro 2 are also the first Beats product to support Lossless Audio with ultra-low latency, optimized for Vision Pro with the H2 chips in both devices working together to deliver an immersive audio/video experience with Apple's headset.

A key new feature for active users is Heart Rate Monitoring, a feature MacRumors discovered some time ago based on code in Apple's software updates. When both earbuds are in the ears and Heart Rate Monitoring is active, LED optical sensors pulse at over 100 times per second to measure heart rate via blood flow, integrating with popular fitness apps to collect data during workouts and sync it to the Apple Health app. Supported apps at launch include Open (meditation), Peloton (various fitness workouts), Runna (running), Slopes (skiing), Ladder (strength training), Nike Run Club (running), and YaoYao (jump roping).

powerbeats-pro-2-3.jpg

For iOS users, Heart Rate Monitoring automatically begins when a workout is started in a compatible app, and it automatically ends when the workout is stopped. Android users will need to manually turn on Heart Rate Monitoring via the earbuds themselves or in the Beats app, but monitoring will automatically end when the workout is completed.

Apple says that when a user is wearing both an Apple Watch and Powerbeats Pro 2, apps and Apple Health will default to using data from the Apple Watch, a choice Apple made to not disrupt the existing base of Apple Watch users who have already been tracking heart rate data. Apple notes, however, that both methods have been thoroughly validated and should yield similar results.

Powerbeats Pro 2 can also be paired to compatible gym equipment to enable at-a-glance viewing as you work out.

Thanks to the H2 chip, you can expect the full suite of Apple integration features with Powerbeats Pro 2, including one-touch pairing, automatic switching between devices via iCloud, Audio Sharing to allow multiple people to listen to the same audio source, hands-free Siri, and Find My support. Android users get many of the same features through the Beats app, including one-touch pairing, Heart Rate Monitoring control, customizable functionality, and a Find My-like Locate My Beats function.

Powerbeats Pro 2 include the iconic "b" logo button on each earbud, and you can customize the press-and-hold gesture to either cycle through Noise Control modes or activate Siri. Quicker single and double presses of the "b" button perform traditional functions like play/pause, track skip, and answer/mute/end calls. Each earbud also features a tactile volume rocker, making it easy to adjust volume right from your earbud without needing to mess with your connected device.

Each earbud includes three microphones and a voice accelerometer, leveraging advanced computational audio and machine-learning algorithms to optimize call performance with features like Voice Isolation to reduct background noise.

Powerbeats Pro 2 are available to order at apple.com starting today in four colors: Electric Orange, Hyper Purple, Jet Black, and Quick Sand. They're available at the same $249.99 price point as the previous generation, and they will be on store shelves starting this Thursday, Fe... Click here to read rest of article

Heart Rate Monitoring…what about Apple Fitness????

I have:
APP1 I keep in the car and use regularly if I forget other buds while out and about
APP2 I keep at home and use as the normal go to
PBP1 x 2 That I rotate with my gym bags
PBP2 that just arrived

The PBP1s are no contest for seal, loudness, and bass compared to APPs. The instances where I've found myself running with APPs, I'm constantly pushing them in or fiddling with them for the seal. After awhile, the seal is broken and I'm not getting the full punch of the music. Also, I doubt my APP2s would have lasted my full marathon at full blast. the PBP1s battery life carried me through.

My biggest gripes with the PBP1s are the bulky case, periodic connectivity issues if I take a bud out and put it back in without docking it first, and the lack of ANC.

The PBP2s right off the bat sounded great, fit perfect with the right tip, and compared to the PBP1s are noticeably smaller and lighter. Wearing a PBP1 on one ear and a PBP2 on the other, the PBP1 feels ever present, while the PBP2 feels barely there. I don't perceive ear fatigue will be an issue. I can't wait to test them on a run and in the gym. The case is still too bulky, but it's quite a bit smaller than the case for the old version. ANC works great. Connectivity issues will be the thing to watch out for.

Got them. Great buds for working out. Only issue (but can be very annoying) is that as soon as I try to jam them in to adjust them (I’ll get COMPLY foam tips for them eventually), the button gets pressed and the audio stops.

Otherwise the sound is punchy, call quality is fantastic, battery life seems very good. The case has wireless charging and find my beeps.

Solid pair but it isn’t cheap at all.

I agree with pressing the button when putting them in...super annoying. The ANC is also pretty mid compared to the AirPods Pro 2. But the fit, the weight, and the battery life are all worth it for working out.

I also like to listen to podcasts when going to sleep and the APP2 would always fall out when turning my head to the side. These will stay in but when I turn my head to the side, the button gets hit and the audio stops. They also become a little uncomfortable to wear when sleeping due to the added pressure on the ears.

Ok, after listening to these more today they are definitely going back! They sound absolutely terrible and I would never pick these over the AirPods Pro 2. Whoever says they have more bass than the AirPods Pro is lying to themselves. The sound is tinny, there is no bass, the ear seal is nonexistent, and they are overpriced by about $100. I like the ear hooks but that's it. I would avoid these at all costs. If you need something other than the AirPods Pro 2 for working out, keep looking.

The ear seal being nonexistent would account for all your audio problems. I assume you tried different size ear tips? It could be that your ear shape just doesn't fit these earbuds.
