This article is EXACTLY what is wrong with Apple today! WHY are they diluting their brand? What is Apple? Is it Beats or is it Apple? Dump Beats and call them Airpods! Iphone x, xr, xs, xs max etc.......same with Ipads, Mac books etc.... it's a mess......looks like just before Steve came back...... maybe Timmy is leaving!!!!!

They can't dilute their brand with a product that is an entirely different brand. If you want to make worthwhile observations on Apple branding, stop reacting to MacRumors bits and think about the information available to typical consumers.

That's not true. There is an audio quality test. Engineers literally mic the headphone output and measure it to see how accurate they are compared to the original signal.

Anyone who would accept something like this without actually listening before buying has a screw loose in my opinion.

I don’t care that earlier versions of PowerBeats Pro have been less than reliable for other users - this looks to be EXACTLY what I need in a daily-use workout earphone/bud (features & functionality) and will buy them on the first day. Hopefully, they’ll sell Apple Care + to cover any problems during the first two years. The battery in my Bose SoundSport wireless is showing signs of early death, will only supply 1-2 hours use and, unless completely, fully charged, it’ll die near the end of a long workout session.

So AirPods are entry level and the PowerBeats are for Power Users? They are not sexy but i do like the color choices. Would be nice if they would make the AirPods with colors.

q-tips help a lot!

mostly because they don't look ridiculous and there aren't much much better options.

This quote is all I need to read to know you are one of those Apple fanboys that has blinders on and literally thinks any option outside of Apple is inferior. There are many many articles and reviews giving examples of better and higher rated options even within the same price point. But carry on thinking you look cool with those white sticks hanging from your ear....lol

nope, just highlighting how subjective the comment was with an equally subjective comment. :)

What Powerbeats Pro has going for it...it doesn't look like you have stringless tampons hanging out of your ears. Bonus! ;)

It already hurts mine. Did Apple determine there was strong demand for headphones that resemble '90s computers?

There IS a strong demand for earbuds that have some sort of horn or hook.
Personally I hate them because I pop buds into my ears tens of times a day, and the hooks slow this. But it would be ridiculous to deny that lots of people seem to want these.

You can even buy them as add-ons for existing Airpods:

$250 for “truly” wireless earbuds that require a wire for charging. The only innovation here is the price being the highest ever for such a thing.

"truly wireless" is a term of art that means L and R buds that are not connected by a wire (unlike, eg the Beats X)
You may think it's dumb, but that is the accepted term; Apple is not making this up and it's a technical as much as a marketing term.

One of the great things about becoming a mature human being is that it's not especially important to you what other people think of the headphones you're wearing, whether those are wired or not, white or black, and have sticks hanging from the ears or not.

Great video! Thanks mac video. I am really intrigued by these too. If you could test the mics compare how they are for calling in a busy room, that would be amazing!

Thanks man, you rock!

So you prefer earphones that look like tampons with (white) strings?

Well, any device using the Qi charging standard also still needs a wire between the Qi charging mat/stand and a power brick. How is this any different?

These will sell like hotcakes. I can make the adjustment of dealing with a bigger charging case by keeping it in my bag and also taking my small Chrome sling with me. The shape is great, possibility of using my Comply tips which are friggin awesome and block out sound wonderfully. Finally all black, which I love. I think these will be well worth the cost. I see way more pros than cons but that's just me. When they become available best believe I'll be buying them day one just like I did with first-gen AirPods. Plus I'm a Apple shareholder so please y'all BUY BUY BUY

I wonder if the Powerbeats have the same problem I've had with other "earplug" style headphones; they amplify any sounds I make internally a hundred times, which is incredibly annoying.

I tried an LG Tone headset once that had this earplug style, and if I tried to eat with them my chewing was amplified so loud that I couldn't stand to wear them while eating. When I'd walk, I'd loudly hear my own footsteps. And my own voice would sound really weird and super-loud when I'd talk. I returned them.

Airpods have been free of this phenomenon, which is why I like them; problem is they don't stay in my ears that well. I'm most happy with over-the-ear headphones (Bose QC35), which also don't have this problem, but are a pain in the ass to carry everywhere with you since you can't stuff them in your pocket.

I guess the only way to find out will be to try them.
[doublepost=1554731092][/doublepost]I was wondering about wind noise intrusion. I borrowed a similar style pair of wireless earbuds and the noise while riding my bike made listening impossible--even at high volume

I’ve always been a behind the ear headphone guy. I bike & do a lot of outdoor physical activities, and apple’s regular wired earbuds never stayed in my ears. So the thought of having an airpod pop out of my ear while biking thru the streets of NYC kept me from ever buying them

FWIW I bike a lot and haven’t had the AirPods fall out of my ears yet. Unless you do BMX, you should have a similar level of confidence to walking around with them.

Good eye! More of an Easter egg than an insult. From my limited knowledge, the Amiga was an amazing computer—ahead of its time and a pioneer of a few standards that are still in use today (or their descendants are). I've seen some of the stuff from the Amiga demo scene, and it was amazing for the time. :)

I'm not much of a collector, but I'd be interested getting an Amiga; they seemed to occupy that short transitory period between green or amber text on black displays and full-color GUIs as standard.
I had an Amiga - it was an amazing computer in its day. It replaced my Commodore 128 (which in turn had replaced my Radio Shack TRS-80 with 4K of RAM, cassette tape storage, and 300 baud dialup modem). Wow I feel old all of a sudden.
You are right, the Amiga was ahead of its time, especially in graphics.

I usually only wear 1 AirPod while biking so I can still hear traffic approaching me. I've never had an AirPod fall out of my ear while riding but just to be safe I bought a keeper / tether that lays around my neck and has thin rubber leads that connect to the stem of my AirPods so just in case it fell out of my ear it would land on my shoulder rather than drop to the road.

I am starting to do some longer distance rides that take several hours and I've had my AirPods (1st gen) die on me during a ride several times recently so I am very interested in the Powerbeats Pro.
