hi

big difference is the expansion pic slot

It's a $300 difference in price. You'd spend the other $300 on the iBook when you pick the 14" model to get the faster processor and larger hard drive.

As I wrote the first time, whether the difference in features is worth $300 to you or not is a matter of opinion.

It's very sad to see people like freeorangeshoes that consider you stupid and incompetant if you disagree.

hi everyone, sorry to rain on the parade,
but when I went to the apple store on campus last friday they told me 2-3 weeks before something new will be announced. I hope they're wrong because I was planning on purchasingthe 12" pb, and now I'm really eager to get my dirty hands on a mac laptop... Lets's hope it's today

They dont know, nobody knows until everyone knows. People who have accounts with the distrubutors can check but and say stuff based on what they see but they dont know when something is going to be relased. The few people that do know sign NDA's preventing them from talking.
So as far as we know no one knows

I wonder just where that information came from. They better be careful, Apple legal might find out. That if there is any truth to the statement. More likely they are just guessing like the rest of us. I'm not disappointed, just going with the flow. It will happen when it happens.

Welcome to MacRumors FreshApplePie, I really like the name that you chose. ;)

Well, as I suggested, it looks like there's no update today. We can hold out for updates next week, which seems more likely now that the shipping availability for all the models is extended. 7-10 days for all 15" and 17" models and 3-5 days for the 12" models.

Still hoping....

Well, they could come tomorrow. According to AI, some Apple stores have already removed their display models. So, either they have already sold all their PBs, or updates are imminent. Either way, the new PBs wil have materialised by next Tuesday/Wednesday.

Yes, they have. E. g. the current revision of PBs was released on 4/19/04 (a Monday), the first revision of G4 iBooks was released on 10/22/03 (a Wednesday). Those are just exceptions to the general rule that new hardware is announced on Tuesdays. But it can happen again.

Yeah! Or the week after that. Or the week after that. Or the week after THAT.

rumors

I have reliable information (I'm only 300 miles from Roswell, NM) that either at an upcoming trade show or on some other day Apple is going to upgrade some of it's product line.
Remember, you heard it hear first.

It would bve neat if Apple was involved in some way with the big photo show in Feb call PMA 2005. :D

Here's to New Products Thursday! C'mon Apple, think different. I am now in bad need of a laptop so I need to see some updates. It's been close to 10 days since they switched to a ten day waiting period. At least it feels like it. I don't care what the update is, I just needs me a laptop.

EDIT: I just scanned back thru the thread and it seems it has only been 7 days since the change to 7 - 10 days. Drat. Maybe it really is going to be next Tuesday. Of course that won't stop me from checking he store every hour or so. :D

I am sick and tired of waiting for new eMac

Why is the new eMac so late ? The Mac Mini could not have ceased immediate production of the eMac ? There are many crt imac and emac owners who don't already own a separate crt or lcd monitor, so the Mac Mini is not that big a deal to them. Apple needs to get their act together . Apple needs to throw a 1.5 or 1.67 GHZ G4 into the emac and get it out on store shelves , no later than the end of this month. That way , a 6 month update might occur later at the begginning of the next school year. As for the Mac Mini. if it really is selling well , Apple should update it this summer to a 90NM 1.8 GHZ and 2 GHZ G5 , so that the Mac Mini users and buyers would not remain behind what regular iMac G5 and Powermac users can do . If Mac Mini sales are hugely based on Apple ipod customers, then they deserve to be able to buy Mac Minis that can do the same things that the regular G5 machines can do. The emac should be Apple's entry level G4 desktop computer.

But if the mini sales are based on iPod users, then they don't need a G5 to do anything that they would need to. The G4 is good enough for them. The G4 is good for a lot of things still.

customers needs and uses always increase and get more demanding

Sure they may start using the Mac Mini to burn and rip music in MP3s or burn a dvd , but it is unavoidable for these users to not want to try other software that they come across or read about . A majority of software is for OS 10 currently, but that might start changing as Apple eventually switches to a better 64 bit operating system ( we all know that will happen . Apple can not stay with a 32 bit operating system forever. ) Now if the Mac Mini is responsible for so many sales to Apple , don't you think Apple owes it to such a large customer base to keep the Mac Mini as up to date as the mainstream flat panel G5 desktops ? The Mac Mini should be a monitorless iMac G5 . That would allow the customers to choose if they would perfer to buy an iMac G5 , A powermac G5 with a separate monitor, or a G5 Mac Mini with or without a separate monitor.
