Maybe it's safer to use the credit card trick?
Cut up an old credit card or something similar and place it between the RAM slot and board. That way you should be able to close the RAM door.

You probably have to tinker a bit - adding several layers of credit cards but it should to the trick.
 
There isn't enough space for such tricks. As soon as I put the RAM stick in the upper slot it touches the lower stick and pushes it down. Then the lower stick is either nor recognized (one beep) or produces three beeps of a bad RAM.
 
I have no idea. I've jumped from G4 desktop (DA) to Intel MBP around 2016 and skipped all G4 portable/G5 stuff.
But, I've tested both, single-sided and double-sided DIMMs and that made no difference.
 
If someone wants to repeat my experiment
Well, the experiment tracks. Companion booted perfectly fine with an unseated stick in the bottom slot.

But at what cost?

There isn't enough space for such tricks.
Card trick may not work with 15s but may work on 17s, as on the 17s the slots are side-by-side as opposed to stacked.
