I agree with your comments about the iPod being a great product, but I just do not have the money to spend on it right now 🙁.

I am really hoping that Apple brings back some Xmas "cram and jam" type deal to let me into both products for a reasonable price. That would be ideal for me.

Uh oh..

I have a feeling I will be going to that to see what's going on, lol. There wasn't a Powerbook discount last year.. if there is, it gives me reason to think they're trying to 'get rid of them' before the new ones come out.

But see, here's the problem: what if they (possibly, who knows) release a new model of the Powerbook (new style, color, everything - rumored color would be black?) and I don't like it. I would want to get the 1.5GHZ aluminum. Can I still customize it even if the new model had been released? I would want to get a few add-ons as mentioned above.. but would they have that available? I know it would be cheaper but..

Patience IS a virtue - and I don't have it! 😉

I wouldn't buy one right now. I'm in the market for a PB too, but I'm not gonna buy one right now. Why? ATI 9700 pro. If you're just gonna play itunes w/it, then fine, but there are two awesome portable graphics processors that have just come out... and their both twice as fast as the 9700 pro. Nvidia 6800go (pushes close to same pixel rate as a 9800pro), and the AIT 9800m (which kicksAss too).

Listen to this bloke. Hes right about the gpu.

If i were you id wait till MWSF, and then buy. Im expecting small speed bumps, but surely a better GPU will come too. Remember that powerbooks hold their value very well, even once the G5 powerbook is out you should be able to sell the G4 powerbook for a decent price. You shouldnt have to pay much more to get the G5, for some reason macs fetch decent prices even when theyve been replaced in the product line.

Im going to wait till MWSF, buy powerbook G4, sell powerbook G4 as soon as the G5 is out, buy G5. God knows i need it, im on a rev.a imac 233Mhz right now.

I would wait till Jan. But even if the G5 or dual G4 (most unlikely) comes out, I would buy more memory. The new G5 iMacs have bare minimum (256 MB 😱 ) to run Panther. Also by Jan, Tiger (OS 10.4) might be out and be included on all Macs (correct me if I am wrong).

Like what others are saying, if you can't wait and don't have a Mac, then get the iPod! 🙄

The ipod saved me from having to buy a new cd player for my car since now i just use the ipod and a tap adapter its better than cd's.My car didnt come with a cd player 😀

I feel your pain with lacking a cd player in you car - I have a 1999 VW Bug, only a tape deck, but I rejoice in your purchase of the iPod, my iPod has served me well along side a tape player and a charger... Had an iPod since 2001, and it's been my favorite driving partner.

but back to the argument in hand.. if you can wait, wait... if you can't, buy now. My Tibook is still as fast as i could need it to be... 1Ghz, 512, 60GB, SD... so even if you did buy now, your computer would suffice

pb thoughts

Sad to say i think duel core g4 will be a major let down.....soon as thats released everyone will still want g5......apple needs to improve lcd color.....the pc notebooks brightness and color are making apple's dull....
