*Integrated graphics "Intel Extreme" SHARING MEMORY with the rest of the system.

OUCH! 128MB, and it uses that for VRAM too?!

And they complain that the PowerBooks have slow graphics chips...

The PBs are dogs right now. There is not a single application that is cross-platform that can justify the cost of the 17"PB vs a high-end equal priced x86 laptop. On the PC, you get more pixel real-estate, longer battery life, better graphics, faster harddrive, better input tools (mouse/keyboard), more expansion abilities, better wifi and bluetooth reception.

(easiest spec is my laptop (IBM T40p) vs the 17" PB since this is the exact decision I had to make a while back: both came in at $3300, plus with IBM's warranty I didn't have to spend extra on AppleCare and shifted those funds to more RAM. I run Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Avid DV, Nuendo 2.0, and Cubase SX as my work apps and side-by-side, the performance is tremendously better (including battery life, which only once dropped to 4.5hrs after heavy use, but almost of the time I'm between 6 to 8 hrs; these aren't the marketing numbers)

Apple needs to get back in the game with the current shift in dollars spent on laptops vs desktops in the market.

( :beg: Apple, please make these next PowerBooks worthwhile... :beg: )

That's nice.. But nothing short of new Powerbooks just won't do!! It's nothing but bollucks. Bottom Line

I totally agree and i'm getting tired of some people on here saying otherwise about the performance being as good if not better on an apple laptop. Look at the benchmarks people, and not only that but everything else legion said (higher res, hd, etc...) though i think you're pretty lucky with that long battery life. If you look at the whole package you would see pound for pound (albeit the pcs might be heavier 😉 ) the pc comes out on top in performance. Granted, the asthetics are no where near Apples and OS X is DEFINATELY a very nice addition, but still come on, why can't we get higher resolutions? I see a turning point for apples notebook product line with the G5 as they will be able to really crank up the speed/performance. However, until then i think PC laptops will tread lightly on powerbooks. Of course, as always, it comes down to whatever YOUR opinion is when you buy a laptop/desktop. I love macs, but lets face it folks, while they're now "king of the desktop" their laptops are still lacking quite a bit (in comparsion to pcs, regardless of what you use a laptop for, strictly hardware speaking). Unless Apple pulls out all the stops and releases G5 powerbook(s) (which i'm pretty positive they won't) in the next month or two the 7457 will be a nice, but late and outdated update, unless of course it's sporting some nice clock speeds...
