That looks to be pretty much the same thing SideTrack does already...

Of course, but how many PowerBook owners know about SideTrack? An unsupported kernel extension (literally hack) as opposed to mass market appeal built right into system preferences, hence my comment.

What's that I hear? Ah yes, PB 15" secondhand values dropping ;)
But seriously, how much have they shaved off the new price? Doesn't look any cheaper to me?

You're right though, trackpad scrolling is very old news and is a lame update to be bragging about in the marketing.

The G4 PBs limp along to fight another day.

 lol :p Seriously, it's such a mundane update it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

It was exactly what was expected though so it's difficult to be disappointed.

A stopgap update, no more, no less. ;)

It's gonna happen sooner or later. I mean everyone has been predicting that some form of new PB will be released soon for the past six months. It's just a question of when, but all of this speculation has been goin around so long that I have lost interest.

Edit: looks like tey just released new PB's. They saw my comments and knew it was time to hustle ;)

They're here

Correct me if I'm wrong — but aren't they on the Apple Store now?
Or do my eyes deceive me?

Well, it's not great in the processor department

... but bigger HD, optical digital in/out, ability to drive the 30" screen, 8x+-DVD, are all very welcome indeed

What man. I was just reading this forum. First I read:

Store down-
New Powerbooks-
Powerbook from 1499-
Go to apple site-

I couldn't believe it. I thought just some posters were being ironic. An update on monday? how weird and how quiet.

I actually dreamt the other day that new powerbooks were coming. The specs were 2.3Ghz G5, 3 sata disks, 3 ram slots (up to 3Gb), silver color. Guess that will be the next update then.

I've been holding off buying a new PB for a colleague at work for these updates. Real shame there's not more to them (for me), but he'll be delighted as he's currently using a Ti 500MHz and OS9. Question is, how long will these updates be keeping the G4s afloat for? Looking like a long wait until WWDC!

Well, not the most impressive update, but the additional ram is nice, especially since they made it a single DIMM, and the faster HD standard is good. if you had priced out the same machine yesterday it would have been around $400 more, I think.

Absolutely, I'm not disappointed in the slightest, hell, as a PB 15 1.5 owner I'm positively delighted :D ;)

Not as thrilled as how long my 1GHz Titanium has lasted me... :D

Now that's what I call ASDA value! heehee.

PowerBook G5 at WWDC is a dead cert... ;)

And with it new case design too. :)

well in aus they've shaved off AU$350 for the 15" 1.5ghz superdrive version (non BTO), which of course now becomes 1.67ghz, so that's always welcome :)

Why has it taken 8 months to bring this update to the market? It's the kind of upate that could have been released along with iBooks back in October. They must have had some serious supply problems with a particualr component.

That would have been one of MY top requests right there!

A decent "hang in there" update I suppose.

Ability of some configs to drive a 30" display  surprises me!
