"Apple Computer is once again gathering the press together as it rolls out new innovations. The latest invitation-only event will be held in New York City on October 19, 2005 on the eve of PhotoPlus Expo. Apple doesn't say exactly what the press conference will be about, but the invitation sent to MacCentral asks to join them as "we unveil Apple's latest pro innovations."

That's it! New Powerbooks next wednesday !!! :D

Yep - it's now on the main page of MacRumors, so direct your comments there...

Nice, I am glad to see an event for the pro stuff, I am sure this is going to be "big". If it weren't for this event, I would have believed that Apple had no real reason to update their pro line anytime soon.

Trust me, there are many reasons... :p

But yes, good to see - I'm looking forward to yet another Apple event!

Frankly Think Secret hasn't been right in months. It was very apparent after the Video iPod announcment that Apple is playing with Think Secret. They changed their story 4 or 5 times leading up to the Video iPod announcment... and then claimed they'd been "right". BS. They said so many things that one was bound to be right. They know NOTHING anymore. Apple has probably figured out who the leak to TS is and is using them to make fools of TS.

Can't we see a better video card in the higher end PB line? I mean, if the new iMac can have a x600, why can't the PB have at least a x700. x800 with 256 mb would be nice.

Think Secret has been better than everyone else until one month ago. I don't know why you say "months." No rumor site can always be right. TS has the best track record.

So am I understanding you guys right? Do the majority of you really believe we'll see a new/updated PB this Wednesday?!

F-F-F-Phew!

Yes, except the 12-inch. I expect it to go unchanged.

i'm crossing my fingers for the 12" PB, one just never knows, i do wish it gets some upgrades that will put pride back in it's name.

Absolutely - this is the appropriate venue for the announcement, and the appropriate time is definitely overdue. The only question will be, what will we see? No 12"s? 7448s? 970GXs?

It's not looking good for the 12" right now...stock ship times are still 24 hours while the 15" and 17" are up to 1-3 days. The two possibilities seem to be continued benign neglect or EOL. Common wisdom on the various forums suggests that it will be replaced by a 13.3" come Intel, or less likely, in the near future. My own guess is that Steve is currently asking the 12" if it would like a blindfold and/or cigarette because it is getting poopcanned.

I have to think they'll keep it available, in its current configuration, until intel Macs. However, you'd think they could have at least done something with it:example, made the 512MB solid like the iBook 12-inch, put the 100 gig hard drive standard, and done something with the video card. Oh, and a very easy thing: just stick a dual layer superdrive in there.

According to this thread, PowerBook updates have been "imminent" since September 19. It'll be sad to see the thread go if Wednesday actually pans out. I guess we'll replace it with the "PB Updates Sucked!" thread. I will probably post to it... :D

I'll post, "no updates to my favorite? The 12-inch. This sucks."

If they offer a Freescale Moto 7448 at 2 GHz G4, then that is fantastic. Seriously.

If they offer anything less, or nothing at all, I expect Pentium PBs at MWSF. That's probably when they're released anyway.

The 15" Ti PB wasn't updated for over a year, and only became "aluminium" around the time when the 2nd revision 12" and 15" was introduced.

it's a fact that the 7448 CAN'T be run at 2ghz as a production model.
I know this very well, there have been power related problems with the 7448. However the new powerbooks are designed for 7448 and NOT 7447A. It's a drop in cpu replacement. The main difference is that at stock speeds the 48 till run 25% faster than the 47A. 1.67 vs. 1.67.

However a 1.92ghz speedbump is unlikely, 'cus a production model wouldn't be able to reach such speeds. 1.8ghz is more likely. Also, the 47A runs stable at 1.92ghz. But the design of the new powerbook shows that it'll be a 7448. Don't expect much of a bump though. Keep in mind that the 7448 runign 2ghz will be faster than a G5 1.9ghz (single-single).

I will be happy with a 25% boast

The funny thing is why is the 47A able to run at a higher clock than the 48?

it's a simpler core... hence the higher clock speeds. and the power issue is easier due to the core... yeah.. well... they'll get the 7448 at 2ghz eventually as new models of it evolve.
