Powerbook updates tonight!

'Tis 9:44 am in Connecticut, and still no updates yet. I know how you feel because you want the update PB. Do you think it'll come w/ OS 10.4 if it does come out? Probably not.

Still checking on the web sites...
 
Considering 10.4 hasn't been released yet, I wouldn't bet on it.

I'm always amused by people's reactions to rumors that don't come true. "For no good reason I decided that the new product would be available TODAY and now I'm getting my panties in a bunch because it wasn't. Come on Apple, I WANTED it today so you must deliver! What do you get those great consumer satisfaction scores for?"

And even if they were anounced today, what's the point in compulsively reloading apple.com? So that you can be the first to order? So that you can wait the longest for delivery? So that you can post another thread that says "Apple says my Powerbook will ship in 2-4 weeks. I ordered it 1.5 weeks ago. Do you think they'll ship it early? Do you think they'll give me some free RAM or an free iPod for making me wait?"

Well, they aren't coming today, so you're right that there is no point in constantly reloading apple.com. 😀 Besides, we know what's coming and it's only going to be a minor speed bump anyway. Some people are just extremely impatient, but waiting another week isn't going to kill anybody. Personally, I won't get excited until the next revision after this one is ready to come out because that's when we're likely to really see something worth getting excited about.

Sorry if I offended you. man.. but you have to admit there are literally dozens of other thread you could have posted this in. Obviously there was no update today, and every week somebody says "Powerbooks Tuesday". Just as I am responsible for my ettiquite, so are you. and Im willing to say I wasnt trying to insult you personally, and I am sorry if you feel I attacked you.

If you feel I was out of line, then I am sincerely sorry. But have a sense of humor and dont take it all so seriously. Finally and most importantly... Stop posting Powerbook threads 🙂

Great, so we are all convinced there will be an update but no one knows when.....I am going bald here. I am hoping that was does come out is ready to ship in a week or two at the long end. I have to get this puppy all set before a business trip @ end March.

If I was not so certain updates were coming in the "near" future I would just order something and sleep well tonight.
Any new knews about a possible date? Any rumor ideas?

Well, I'm not so sure that updates are coming. Consider that Tiger is coming in the second quarter, so, it may be that the PBs get pushed out until that time. I know that they are long overdue for an update (they should have been updated in Nov. 2004). The fact that they have not been updated yet makes me believe that they are either readying a dual-core G4 or going straight to G5 for their next iteration. They wouldn't wait over a year for a simple speed bump... especially if everything else was virtually the same. Remember, if they did the speed-bump, that would imply almost another year for the G5 laptop or dual-core G4 so, it depends on what path Apple has set for building up to the G5. Personally, a G4 update to 1.67GHz would be good, but pretty disappointing overall. I mean, 167MHz for one year's worth of waiting? Not very good for PR. I would hope that they are doing something like dual-core 1.5GHzs across the line or a 1.6GHz G5. And Apple.... please, PLEASE make every PB widescreen. Also, I'm not sure if it is just me or not, but I just can't believe the resolutions are still where they are at. I would love to see a 12" or 13" widescreen PB with a 1280 x 960/800 res., 64/128MB of video and all digital outputs. 😀
 
As much as I hope you are wrong, if you are correct and PB updates are not coming until some date closer to Tiger's release, how can we account for the lack of stock at major retailers and other rumors that seem to have some backing?

I do not mean this as a confrontation to anyone, rather just trying to figure when to order a PB for myself. If updates are yet another week away that is fine, but if one week goes to two weeks goes to three like it did since Nov 04, well then I should have purchased one back then.

Any new info anyone?

Edit: Just re-read TS's article about updates to PBs and 5G iPod.
"quiet announcement on Tuesday, January 25 or, at the latest, February 2"
Hopefully this is correct and "the latest" will truly be next Wednesday.
 
I am one of the people who have been eagerly awaiting the release. No, this isnt a big upgrade, but its significant enough. I havent had enough money for a powerbook until now. Allthough the updates may seem minor to some of you, for people who have been waiting for a long time, like me, its important.

Seriously though, we may see it this Friday. If I recall correctly, wasn't 10.3.6 released on a Friday?
 
it must be coming within the next few weeks, but let's not make such a fuss over it... if we were waiting until april/tiger, apple would have posted some sort of announcement similar to the death of the iMac G4... be patient... you'll be happy soon enough...

Agreed. Dont forget that the last PB update was on a MONDAY. Tuesdays are no longer the gold standard; neither are Stevenotes. I can't agree with some of the other posters that Apple is waiting for Tiger-- that'll be too long and it will eviscerate the already dwindling PB sales.
 
also, there have been reports of apple stores taking powerbooks off the display floor. they have to be preparing for something.,
