Well if that's the case, why should anyone be excited about a G5 PowerBook - ever?

Maybe Apple should just keep pumping out the same TiBooks until 2006, I mean, they'll still be reliable, sport a nice interface, and have an extremely stable OS, right?

For $2.5K, I want a machine that is reliable, has great features, and has a great future. The Mac OS and apps are moving to 64 bits, why would I invest that kind of money in a 32 bit laptop now?

Somebody please put a bullet in that G4 - it's pulling up lame.

You're very right - if you can wait for a 64 bit computer, then that's the best bet. However, with Apple promising a 3 GHz G5 by next year, and knowing that machines take time to get perfect (remember the fan issues on the dual G4??), the smart money is waiting until this time next year for any kind of G5 - PB or tower.

And, like myself, some people need a laptop soon - for school or work - or like myself before the end of year for tax purposes. If the G4 has the needed updates, I'll purchase that solid machine.

Being caught up in the frenzy of "new" and "most powerful" is ridiculous. I'd be interested in knowing what percentage of people out there actually need all that machine. I'm a graphic designer and was working on my 9500 until this time last year when I updated to a dual G4. Granted, things moved much slower with the 9500, but I was still able to get work done. It (a new machine) only became necessary when my workload quadrupled.

Purchase the machine that fits your lifestyle and you'll be happy. Besides, as soon as you buy one, they're obsolete anyways...

Hey, I'm a gamer, and given how much power Doom 3 needs, the dual 2Ghz G5 with a Radeon 9800 Pro is practically outdated :D
