When we talk about the new crippled 2.0, did Apple simply take the 2.0 chips and put them on the old 1.8 motherboards? How else could they eliminate 4 Gig of ram. I imagine they knew that if people had a choice of the 2.0 vs. the 2.3, both with the same features, people would buy the 2.0 for $500.00 less. I wonder what the cost difference of the motherboards is?

Well, I ordered my first ever new computer yesterday! Got a bargain on a Dual 2.5GHz from the UK Apple Store. Ordered it in the morning, and couldn't believe it when I checked my email in the afternoon and I had a shipping notice. Really threw me off as I'd been umming and ahhing all day over the purchase and it was already winging its way to me.

Oh dear, it was going so well, then Apple had to fubar on me.

No Tiger in the box, scratched case, damaged heatsink/radiator, Geforce 5200 instead of a Radeon 9600, wrong hard drive and memory config. Call twice to get it sorted and get mucked about.

Called again this morning and told them to refund me, they'd had their chance. Very poor show, but it's not surprising - Apple UK too frequently give awful customer service. You're not getting my hard-earned this time Apple.

Oh well, roll on cheaper 3GHz systems at WWDC! ;)

I purchased the PRO upgrade for QT 6.0. Now I will have to purchase the upgrade again for QT 7.0. While $30 is not much, shouldn't the first pro upgrade carry over into QT 7.0? You might argue that every company charges for major software upgrades and that going from QT 6 pro to QT 7 pro is a chargeable upgrade. However, is this a new policy for Quicktime? Anybody with QT 5.0 pro remember paying again to upgrade to QT 6.0 pro?

I purchased QuickTime Pro 5. Then when QuickTime 6 came out I had to purchase the Pro again. So far I haven't upgraded to QuickTime 7.

Thank you so very much for the link when I drop $3,565.45 its nice to get a little back. :)

In regards to your other comment I would seriously consider an iMac if you don’t have much money those are nice machines. If you have your herart set on a Power Mac I would at least get a dual 2.0 the 1.8 is just to crippled and if you can possibly aford it a dual 2.3 because they are a little more upgradeable

Do you think there is any way Apple would give be the rebate for ordering the revolution C Dual 2.0 PowerMac on April 27?

Yep. I am not sure what it is that they scribbled on it. You should see the other side. It looks like it went through a meat grinder. The display seems to be OK, though.

Well, it isn't really crippled in the same sense that the dual 1.8 GHz system was. The dual 1.8 had a front-side bus (FSB) of 600 MHz per CPU. The FSB on the new dual 2.0 GHz system is 1.0 GHz per CPU.

The only differences that I seen between the old and new 2.0 dual system is the downgrade to only 4 gig of memory and the lack of PCI-X.

Very nice specs. Do you have it in front of you now or did you order it online? If I had known before I ordered that Apple would be charging me tax, I could have purchased mine at the local CompUSA and had it that same day. Oh well, one lives and learns... usually the hard way. This waiting is driving me crazy! :D

All of you that are waiting will be handsomely rewarded. Apple makes exceptionally strong boxes, after all it contains such precious cargo.

My system is scheduled to arrive Wednesday, May 11. I already have the 20" Cinema display. It got here Friday. If I had known that Apple charged tax when going through the online Apple Store, I would have purchased it at my local CompUSA store. We do not have an Apple Store locally.

Anyway, I ordered the new dual 2.0 GHz system with 160 gig drive, 1 gig of RAM, Radeon 9650, Bluetooth and wireless. I think I will have a lot of fun with it.

I'm just waiting for an email from apple now :)

Yes.. I have the Display.
Just the Merry Christmas, Happy Birthday, Happy Fathers Day, don't ask me for any sex for at least a week now... G5 on it's way.

I have just bought a Powermac in AppleStore. I've also done the wire transfer today and expect to see "open" status by Wednesday or Thursday... But my estimated shipping date is 5/23!! :(
This will be my first Mac, so I'm very excited. Its specs:
Dual 2.3 G5
1GB RAM
250GB HD
Ati 9650 (I will upgrade ir when the X800 or the 6800 are cheaper)
AND: Apple Cinema Display 20-inch

I think I'm switching to Mac with a great computer, don't you think?

Thanks! I could have bought a Mini as my first Mac but... I need some power ;)

I almost bought a Mini as my first Mac, but luckily I found a couple of reviews and got hardware specs before I purchased. I decided to go the Power Mac route as well.

A very wise decision. My thought about the mini is that I already have a G4. Now I want to move up to a G5. In order to avoid having to look at a 20" that can't bee used, found it best to have Apple ship all items at the same time. I didn't realize that Alabama didn't have any state sales tax. Unless I'm missing something. Apple only charges the tax when your own state has the tax.

Yea, we do have sales tax in Alabama. Apple is the first place that I have purchased anything from that has charged tax on an online purchase.

As for the shipping, I thought I had checked the option to ship everything at the same time, but I guess I did not. The LCD is still sitting in there in the box. It is killing me! :)

Good . Hope you enjoy it . just like I'm enjoying mine.. May the Force be with you :D

Well cool. . . My PowerMac went from "Sent to Manufacturing" to "Preparing Shipment" this evening. If they can get it out the door and onto a FedEx truck on Tuesday that means I won't have to sit in torture on Wednesday as Kerry describes receiving his machine in excrutiating detail. :)

Just to recap, for others in this boat... I ordered it on 27-Apr within an hour of store.apple.com going live with the new machines. I originally had a 4-May ship estimate which got pushed off to 13-May with that weird "replaced with identical hardware" hiccup. My BTO changes are the 6800 Ultra graphics card, bump to 1GB ram, the 400GB drive, and bluetooth.

Here's hoping I receive it on Wednesday. :)
