Placed my order 4 hours ago and it has already been sent to manufacturing. I bought Apple Care and an extra 1gig of memory from a 3rd party vendor. I got a $30.00 coupon code and educator pricing. It was the $30.00 that pushed me over the edge.

This morning I received an email stating my shipment had been delayed from "on or before 5/4" to "on or before 5/16." But I now have an email with a Fedex tracking number, and fedex says it will arrive tomorrow!

This was a dual 2.7 with Airport, Bluetooth, Modem, and Nvidia 6800. I might well be one of the first to get one, from the sound of things.

Oh how I want to get that email on this end!

I am so bummed. I checked the shipping status for my G5 system this morning and found that it sat on the truck at Anaheim from midnight until 7:30 pm last night.... an entire day! I left from Anaheim thos morning. Now the estimated delivery date has been pushed back a day. :(

on fedex vehicle for delivery

Not to gloat, but a certain 58 lb package is "on Fedex vehicle for delivery." So, clearly Apple isn't holding back on all of their CTO 2.7 G5's. Unless they are shipping a package full of rocks just to pull one over on me

I have to wait for my system as I mentioned, but my wife just called to let me know that the 20" Cinema display is at our house. :)

I am bummed, because my PC only has VGA out. A co-worker just mentioned that he has a card at his house that he is not using that has DVI out. Maybe I can rent it from him for the weekend. :)

This email came today.....

Thank you for your recent inquiry.

Due to an unexpectedly high demand, we are unable to ship the following item by the date that you were originally quoted:

Z0BM, PMG5 Q87 CTO 2.7 DP, will now ship on or before 5/16/05.

At this time, we do not have more specific information. Please note that product availability can change rapidly, and it is possible that your order may ship sooner than we anticipate. You may even receive a shipment confirmation between the time we send this email and the time that you read it.
We have upgraded your shipping from Ground to two-three day international shipping at no additional charge. Products shipped prior to 5:00 p.m. EST, are normally delivered by 4:30 p.m. local time two-three business days after shipment.

We appreciate your business and apologize for any inconvenience this delay may have caused you.

Gotta love those automated e-mail responders

I got a similar one regarding my 23" cinema display and it shipped later in the day. No luck on the PMG5 though :(

yeah... I feel so... processed.
Someone put me in my place today however. They asked me, ("why don't you just get a Dell?)" .
The truth is I will never own another windows unit in my life. I love my macs. I just need to stay away from The Apple Store. I guess I will go back to MacMAll and just pay the higher price knowing they will tell me if it's in stock or not.
The thing that really bothers me is... when I order it I asked the rep if they still had them in stock. He said.. "Oh yeah, for sure, it just came out today".
I asked... so I'm on the top of the list? he said. "very top"
With that info I sold my main editing unit.

:( - i've had a similar email from apple today but mine suggests that it is the applecare which is causing the delay rather than the computer (from matching the product codes)

Yikes, how can you think of attaching your beautiful new display to a (holds nose) Windoze box??

How can AppleCare possibly hold it back? It is not even a tangible "product" that they have to ship

AppleCare is a tangible product. They ship you the little red box with the enrollment card inside that contains your applecare number.

I still have trouble believing that the applecare kit would be holding back the shipment, though.

powermac decision

I waited. First for the powermac updates, then for the imac updates. But I still can't make a decision.

I am looking to buy a desktop. The last computer I bought was a 233 g3 imac, so I'm due. I want something that will allow me to work in After Effects, edit video and I'm dying to play some games. Any of the new computers will scream speed compared to what I'm used to.

I've already ruled out that beautiful imac; I can't justify spending all that $$ on a pretty box that can't be upgraded, and the squawks about the already outdated video card leave me cold. Plus, I'm serious about doing image processing, and I imagine the dual processors will help with that. But please correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, here are my questions:
Should I be considering the dual 1.8? Would it be that much slower than a dual 2.0 for the money? (Money is a big concern.)

What are the advantages of the pci-X ports on the earlier version of the dual 2.0? I don't understand the pci vs pci-X thing. Is this a reason to buy the earlier version?

Should I wait until WWDC is over just in case prices drop with the announcement of something fabulous? Is this likely?

It really is between the dual 1.8 and either version of the 2.0's, as I have limited funds. I don't mind upgrading slowly to a new video card and more ram.

Thanks in advance,
natalie

How did it occur that you were offered the $30 coupon? My wife is eligible for an educational discount.

Erm. People spend $3000 on a PM and don't hesitate, then turn around and bitch about a $30 QT Pro upgrade. I see this all the time.

Sadly some people just like to complain. Others it just gives them something to talk about.

I purchased the PRO upgrade for QT 6.0. Now I will have to purchase the upgrade again for QT 7.0. While $30 is not much, shouldn't the first pro upgrade carry over into QT 7.0? You might argue that every company charges for major software upgrades and that going from QT 6 pro to QT 7 pro is a chargeable upgrade. However, is this a new policy for Quicktime? Anybody with QT 5.0 pro remember paying again to upgrade to QT 6.0 pro?

I've just setup my new dual 2.7 PM and I'm so happy I'm ready to explode. Can't talk, must play!!! :D

I've got mine too, it is pretty nice. Just installed my extra 2 GB ram from Crucial. The Geforce 6800 is very snappy too.

I have decided not to at this point. I am not sure what came over me. I do not want to violate it. :D

Speaking of the display... this arrived this morning. :)

Hey! Go save yourself $100! (in addition to education discounts.)

Thank you so very much for the link when I drop $3,565.45 its nice to get a little back. :)

In regards to your other comment I would seriously consider an iMac if you don’t have much money those are nice machines. If you have your herart set on a Power Mac I would at least get a dual 2.0 the 1.8 is just to crippled and if you can possibly aford it a dual 2.3 because they are a little more upgradeable
