I'm not sure if this matters or not, but do you have mail, etc opened when you put your computer to sleep? I don't know if they have to be running to work or not but its worth a try if your not doing it now.

Yes I have it and the messages app open. I get bombarded with notifications when I open my Air again.

Do I have to manually install the firmware to have the Power Nap feature show up? I did it through the App Store but still I don't have that option.

In 10.8.2 powernap should work after a EFI firmware update on the late 2010 MBA's,.. but somehow the backlight now doesn't work anymore during boot, quite annoying as I have filevault enabled and I have to login before it completely boots,..

Anyone with the same problems?

I also have a late 2010 MBA (13" | 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo | 256GB SSD | 4GB RAM) running OS X 10.8.2 with the latest updates and the SMC Update with Power Nap enabled in System Preferences > Energy Saver. I have a 2 TB external hard drive attached to my AirPort Extreme which has a 1 TB Partition dedicated to Time Machine backups. I have yet to see any Time Machine backups running while my MBA is sleeping. Whenever it wakes in the AM, I can go into Time Machine Preferences, and it always shows that the latest backup ran right before I put the MBA to sleep the night before, and that the next backup will run in about an hour, although it usually kicks off a backup as soon as I wake it from sleep. Has anyone else gotten this to work on a late 2010 MBA, and if so, any suggestions on what else needs to be done to get this working? Or will Power Nap only work if you have a Time Capsule rather than an external hard drive?
