All Phoenix does is to serve as a stand-in for AOL's defunct AIM server. If you couldn't use iChat for Apple Messages before, then you still won't be able to now, I'm afraid. So this only lets you use ichat to talk with other users on the phoenix server? Or is it possible to use the phoenix server to chat with people on messages too?
But IRC still works !All Phoenix does is to serve as a stand-in for AOL's defunct AIM server. If you couldn't use iChat for Apple Messages before, then you still won't be able to now, I'm afraid.
iChat has been off since Mavericks. Sadly, the real way to communicate on internet is disintegrating. This is why I hate technology of today. iChat I had 7000 friends now all are gone because Apple took the damn servers off line !All Phoenix does is to serve as a stand-in for AOL's defunct AIM server. it seems that is a little more complicated, as Google Talk moved away from XMPP, and then later got replaced with Hangouts. It looks like you can still have XMPP clients connect, but you're going to end up with limited functionality.I do think it should work with Google Talk specifically, yes. That's using Google servers, not Apple servers.
All I can tell you is it works for me on Mavericks once I enabled access for Less Secure Apps, and since I'm pretty sure Apple didn't touch any of this stuff between Leopard and Mavericks, I think it would work on Leopard too, and I think interested parties should try it. Up to you!it seems that is a little more complicated, as Google Talk moved away from XMPP, and then later got replaced with Hangouts. IRC is still very much used by millions. Macgarden has a channel, voidlinux-ppc has a channel, debianppc has a channel etc etc. Pretty much any software/OS with a development team still uses irc. Then there are tons of off-topic channels, regional channels, etc etc etc. It's withstood the test of time while multiple other chat protocols have come and gone.
Cheers
Yes iChat works with the AOL phoenix server. (log in there , same as to AOL from win.) (add me ass friend -same id-So you are saying iChat can still work ???? So, in Leopard I can still use iChat ? Apple didn’t take the servers off line ?
Only the dorkiest of dorks, like enthusiastic users of 20+ year old hardware. (me included!)Irc ? Who uses that anymore ?
