Subtitle Support

In my opinion the only thing missing for this app to be perfect is to support subtitles for UPNP streaming. Don't get why it still doesn't, many other apps in the market do. :/. Until then, won't be happy with the purchase, since DLNA streaming was the main reason for it.

Thanks.
We are working on the subtitle support of HTTP streaming, hopefully the next version will support this feature.

Wow wow wow!
I've been searching for UPNP player that will play/stream 720p on my iPad and I've finally found it!

So far I have bought and paid for,
Ace player
Good player
Media connect
8player
Buzz player
Airplayer
Flex player (part of media connect)

I can assure you all that NONE of the above players that i bought will play 720p on an iPad 1.... NONE OF THEM!

As a last ditch attempt, I decided to buy this app "PowerPlayer" and
It worked!

It's not perfect, but it's completely watchable!

My only request is for faster decoding on an iPad 1 and to iron out some of the upnp bugs (I'm getting duplicate files and notice the lists are organising files in a bizarre order on occasion...

For example when selecting to view titles A-Z the app actually lists A-H.. Then returns back to A then lists files down to Z?

A weird bug but I don't care!

This app makes it possible to view my media on an iPad 1 without JB and for that I salute you guys!

Please please please fix the little bugs and iron out the kinks and just eek out a little more performance of the iPad 1 if you can... It's 90% there and I can safely say this is THE best video app for the iPad 1. Period!

Keep going guys this has truly solved ALL the media issues I was having and I hope you can continue to develope this... A little more horse power and this will be an unstoppable app!

Again this is the only APP from all the ones I purchased and mentioned above that will play 720 tv shows! There not 100% perfect.. (a few frame drops and stutters here and there) But my word it's close... and they are very very watchable..

I'd happily loose a little more quality or features or eye candy etc for smoother playback... Even a longer wait for start time if a larger buffer etc is required! It's nearly there guys please keep doing what ou are doing and get iPhone 4 and iPad 1 playing 720 shows... If so... I'll happily donate or rebuy the app again!

Amazing work.
Truly amazing!

Thanks for the feedback.
For HTTP/DLNA/UPnP streaming with MKV hardware decoding support, PowerPlayer looks the only app store solution now.

For your feedbacks:
1 For the UPnP part, please send us some screenshots if possible. Our email address is powerplayer@hustmobile.com .
And also please tell us the DLNA server application name. The PS3 Media Server (http://www.ps3mediaserver.org/) is recommended for DLNA server. It is free and cross platform. Please turn off all the transcoding of PS3 Media Server if you use it.
2 For the performance part, now we know it is still possible to improve it. We are working on it. It is very promising, however it is very complicated. We have already spent lots of time on this new performance improvement, hope we can complete it soon.

PowerPlayer 1.4 released,
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/powerplayer/id520818788?mt=8

What's New in Version 1.4
1 MKV embedded subtitle support improved, MKV embedded subtitle tracks can be selected by swiping up/down. HTTP streaming MKV embedded subtitle is supported
2 HTTP/DLNA/UPnP streaming supports .srt subtitle. Please first upload/download the subtitle files to GoodPlayer app. If the movie name is filename.avi , the subtitle file name is something like "filename.en.srt" or "filename.fr.srt".Click the playback control information button, then click "Select Subtitle". This subtitle selection feature also applies to local playback.
3 the .3ga file format supported

That must really smeg you off! ;)
Can't complain with new features being added so often though.

Stop your fowl whining, you filthy piece of distended rectum :D

Oh, I'm more than happy with the updates, I think these guys are amazing, I certainly didn't mean to seem ungrateful.

I just thought he mentioned that there was a big speed upgrade thy had been working on and thought it was coming this update.

It's such an amazing app though that I sure won't complain about them supporting it, I'm eternally grateful for the creation of it it :)

I can't believe this app isn't plastered all over the web like goodplayer etc, these guys need to advertise a bit more as its without question, without argument, without competition THE best movie player available for iPad 1 and iPhone 3/4 etc.

It's just amazing having all my media readily available via this app all over the house. I honestly spent £20 buying all the other apps and they were ****! Then after some serious digging I came across this thread, tried it and it worked flawlessly and better than all the other apps I had tried right out the gates.

If more people knew about this app it would sell like a mofo I'm sure!

So sorry if I seemed ungrateful guys, your work is awesome :)

I really just replied to add the Red Dwarf quote (Love that episode btw) since I don't have this app but do have GoodPlayer which is excellent - one of the two video apps I use. I just wish Apple would open up the hardware to allow proper decoding in the first place.

They won't. I think they're trying to protect their iTunes store by severely limiting the file formats you can play back in hardware (or even synch to the iPad). Unlike other, much more open operating systems (Android, Symbian).

Yip, I'm aware of their reasoning which is frustrating given they approve apps that still support these other formats. It's like the Browser issue - they won't allow use of their nitro engine to offers up smooth scrolling even though other browsers otherwise offer many more features.

Yip, I'm aware of their reasoning which is frustrating given they approve apps that still support these other formats.

They do approve them because they know they just can't produce flawless playback (none of the current MKV players play back MKV's truly flawlessly) and, therefore, won't make people prefer ripping their own DVD's / BD discs to purchasing from the iTunes store.

It's like the Browser issue - they won't allow use of their nitro engine to offers up smooth scrolling even though other browsers otherwise offer many more features.

Well, the Safari case is even less understandable as I simply don't see any point in not allowing 3rd party browsers to use the Nitro engine / the old (and, now, forbidden) API calls to offer flawless scrolling. It's just another inexplicable (and very-very stupid) restriction of Apple.

(BTW, Nitrous ( http://www.ijailbreak.com/cydia/nitrous-cydia-tweak-ios/ ) has just been released for jailbroken devices. While it doesn't remove the jerky scrolling, at least it speeds up JavaScript.)

Thanks for the feedback.
And sorry that there is no performance upgrade in this version. We are more disappointed than you on this

In the development, we are stuck with some issues for the performance improvement, although we got some hints on how to improve the performance.

No performance upgrade :(

Thanks a lot.
Just send an email to FileBrowser people for GoodPlayer Quickstream feature.
Since now PowerPlayer app does not support powerplayer:// url scheme yet, so we think this feature is impossible for PowerPlayer now. We will add this powerplayer:// url scheme feature first.

I would love it if you would add support to both PowerPlayer and GoodPlayer for the FileBrowser app's Quickstream feature. Please see the bottom of this page for details.

Great! Thank you. Being able to store files or access network files in FileBrowser and "stream" them to GoodPlayer (and soon PowerPlayer) without having to "Open in" is going to save a lot of time and headache with large files.

Some questions

Hello everyone,

I've just discovered PowerPlayer while I was thinking of buying GoodPlayer.

I just wanna have the best/same quality with MP4/M4V video encoded specialy for iPad 2 with AirVideo / iPodMe or other.

The reason I don't use de video app from apple, is for subtitles, sometimes the delay is not good, and I also wanna watch video from my nas with samba without downloading them and I also wanna transfer over wifi with samba more than one video at the time.

The open in feature works with .srt ???

Can you confirm that PowerPlayer has that features?

Thanks in advance and excuse my poor English, I come from Belgium

Thanks.

1 For MP4/M4V file supports, GoodPlayer is better
2 For SMB support, GoodPlayer is better. PowerPlayer does not support SMB streaming, GoodPlayer does.
3 Both apps supports .srt Open in

PowerPlayer is better at HD MKV playback.

If you have purchased GoodPlayer or PowerPlayer, we can send the free promo code of the other app to you. You need not to purchase both apps. Please send us email powerplayer@hustmobile.com for the promo codes.

What's New in Version 1.6
1. MSS2 and MSS1 video codec supports added, MSS2 and MSS1 video codec are usually used in .WMV file container
2. TSCC2/TSC2 video codec support added,TSCC2/TSC2 video codec is usually used in .AVI file container
3. The .rar file format decompressing supported. Upload/download rar/zip file to PowerPlayer, then go to PowerPlayer file manger( In main view or file listing view, in the right of search input field, click the "Edit"), click the rar/zip file, select "Decompress" from the pop-up menu

I was wondering why Powerplayer registers itself as a handler for PDF files. Seeing that iOS (5, at least) only shows 10 apps on the iPad in the "Open in" menu, it is kind of a waste to have Powerplayer (and GoodPlayer, also) taking up a slot.

I'd like to request that the developers remove Powerplayer from listing itself as an "Open in" app for PDFs. Otherwise, I'll have to continually delete and reinstall Goodplayer and Powerplayer whenever one of my "real" PDF handling apps has been pushed off the list.

Thank you for considering this.

For the ease of use, we register PowerPlayer to "all files". So it looks there is no easy way to unregister the PDF format only.

This seems unnecessary, in my opinion. Why not just register it for all the filetypes that you list in the App store description?

From what I've read, iOS 6 may solve this limitation. I guess I should upgrade soon.

Sometimes, the user need to open an unsupported file format, then rename the filename, play it in apps.
