My reaction to Action Retro's video in real time:

- Ignores AuroraTrimcelerator, manually tweaks OS instead w/ unideal results = :(

- Showcases TenFourFoxPEP w/ positive results = :)

- Uses vanilla TenFourFoxBoxes instead w/ unideal results = :(

- Ignores AquaWeb entirely w/ unideal results = :(

- Showcases Minecraft Definitive Edition w/ positive results = :)

That's the other thing. I need to update my TFFPEP and other optimizations as a part of this xD

Luckily I won't be in school during the time the challenge is going on and I don't work, so I don't need to use these for any work stuff. It sounds like I can still use my phone too so, if that's the case, I can use my phone for things I can't use my PPC Macs for, especially for things like Discord because I really don't want to risk breaking ToS and getting an IP ban.

I've never quit using my PPC (AGP) G4 as a "daily driver".

Right now I am waiting for a PC version of the Radeon 9600 Pro to flash and temporarily use until my real Mac Edition of that card is fixed. I will probably be asking questions on how to flash and best ways to fix.

It has a 1 GHz Sonnet upgrade card. I am looking for a 1.8 GHz NewerTechnologies MaxPower 7448, dual processor.

And I am trying to get Mint PPC to run on it so that I connect to an HP printer for which HP made no drivers (at least none that work).

I use Consultant (in Classic Mac mode), Cobalt (a high end solid modelling package), Photoshop and other packages.

No hard drives in the machine. Three Samsung EVO 840's, going through a SATA PCI card.

And, believe it or not I have Windows XP Pro successfully (slowly) running on it.

I hope to install an Orange Micro OrangePC 620 card and upgrade the processor on that card. Then see just how new an edition of Windows I can run on it.

Am I correct? Mission is to...
-browse
-play music
-chat
-send and/or receive a mail
-play a game?
-writing a text or making a picture for example?

I would say, all is possible with my Powerbook 540 PPC, but chat? Is there a chat client who is working?

How about an OS 9 challenge? Real OS 9, not Classic Mode or an emulator, OS 9 on a G3/G4. That'd be much harder for even the proficient PPC users because you've instantly lost a lot of the web and apps. Getting by on OS 9 doesn't seem as easy in the last 4-5 years or so. Of course it'll depend on individual users' needs.

It sure would be a tad cool to see 7 running on there. It's interesting that NT can be run on that setup - on the PC cards for Acorn machines it can't.

Surprisingly, you wouldn’t loose YouTube if you used the PPCMC Web Interface on another Mac (or is that cheating?)

I haven't tried that yet, I'll have to check it out. I remember you posting about it earlier this year. What file format would the videos end up being once you play them in OS 9? With QuickTime 5 I'm not sure if the filetype would be supported or if I'd need a 3rd party player.

So there are 3 formats it converts to.

MPEG-4 Part 2 (QuickTime 6.0 and above support it). 144p, 240p, 360p, and 480p are supported. The Mac mini eats 480p MPEG 4 Part 2 on OS 9 for breakfast. You can even stream these videos in the web interface of the browser, or with QuickTime.

MPEG-1 (QuickTime 2 or 3 supports this? Works on QuickTime 6 for me). 240p is only supported, as I only made this option to play videos on my 300MHZ clamshell and nothing else. Some iMac people on OS9lives have said their slower then my clamshell iMacs can also play these 240p MPEG-1 videos. MPEG-1 is not bad as bad as people may think, the web interface converts at a higher bitrate/resolution then VCDs for example. For Macs too slow for MPEG-4 Part 2, or even MPEG-2 (which Apple used to say required a 400MHz G4 or better) it's an excellent option.

MP3 at 320KBs bitrate. Clamshell can play these back too (and my Dreamcast for that matter).

It's very simple to use, @RogerWilco6502 made a video demoing this when it first came out (now slightly outdated in setup steps, you now install the Web Interface from PPCMC.app instead of janky shell scripts like it was before).

All you do is load up Netscape, Classilla, IE, whatever on your OS 8/9 Mac. Click your media file format, copy your youtube link, and wait (about 5 minutes or less for most videos). Then you can download, stream, and play your media all on a Classic Mac OS.

One day this thing will be able to be hosted on any OS, so file conversion will take seconds. Maybe this will be in the PPCMC New Years Update (as long as that doesn't become vaporware and get delayed).

I am for this.. If TLS 1.3 can be installed into Classila, then internet web and apps won't be lost. OS 9 is still a very nice OS. I use 2001 MS OFFICE and its nice.

Unfortunately the last couple days overlap with the start of the new semester for my school, but I might give it a shot for the first several days. It's a good excuse to pull out my Albook again:).

If only google meet could work on ppc...

@mj_ I suppose it's akin to asking what the point of Christmas is when instead of dedicating one day to be gracious of your blessings, give unsolicited gifts to others, and be in a general good mood for the sake of it, you could simply do all of the above year-round instead - albeit perhaps on a lower scale.

Needless to say though, I agree with you. Why give them a spotlight for one little week when you could be giving them some love all year? Then everyone wins. :)

Society is strange.
