UPDATE
The eye has passed over lafayette. Just talked to our daughter and she said it was bad, and scary, but the good news is that it is over for the most part. Some more rain maybe, but the winds are done!

THE HITS JUST KEEP ON COMING.
Tara and I went to eat here in Vegas, and we both had our iPod touches that we just bought two weeks ago. I was sweating like a pig so I had her put mine with hers in the camera bag. While walking she bent down to tie her shoe, and sat the bag down, and some ****ing ******* stole it. So there goes our two iPods, and our camera. ****ERS!

I'm delighted to learn that the eye of the storm passed over without too much trauma and that your daughter is in fine form and good health.

When hits such as you have described in your various posts come, they tend - for some reason I have never fathomed - to come in droves. I'd imagine that having endured all of the stress, misery and sheer mind-numbing terror of the past while, that the foul theft of the iPod Touches seemed like the last straw. It's the little things that hurt most of all, at times like that.

I can only offer my heartfelt sympathy, and say that while you will remember the iPod Touches, and feel enraged and raw about it whenever you recall the circumstances of the theft, in the wider scheme of things, they don't matter. Yes, I join with you in cursing the thieves, but life, love, loss and coping with loss and grief are what matter now. You endure because you must, but you'll come out of it, possibly stronger. Take care.

The best of luck to you and yours in the future.

Cheers

You are 100% correct. We got a blessing that everything is okay in home, and then the iPod's were like you said the last straw. I am just praying that the car is ready tomorrow so we can go the hell home. Vegas is incredible, and the people are very nice, but I miss my cajun country.

You're cursed. :p

That explains all the years of crap you've been through.

This is unreal. I had an emac being shipped to me USPS, and it was delivered by the USPS. On Saturday. At 12:21. Wow. They left the computer on the front porch right before the hurricane. When mandatory evacuations were underway. It wasn't there this morning. So sometime between Saturday, and today, it was either stolen or blown away. Oh well, thank God for home owner insurance.

Is there any chance that a neighbor could have picked it up for safekeeping?

Although I realize that conditions are far from normal in the area at the moment, you should report the theft to your Postmaster or local postal inspector as soon as normal operations resume. You can also file a report here.

A police report should also be filed, although I'm sure they're very busy at the moment. You'll probably need one to file a claim with your home owner's insurance (who, incidentally, will also be extremely busy at the moment).

It seems that USPS should in some way be responsible. It was very irresponsible for them to leave an expensive package on someone's porch with a hurricane on the horizon. It's reprehensible, really.

EDIT: Sorry if my post was a bit presumptuous. It's very possible that you've already thought of everything I said, in which case I should learn to give advice only when asked.

Jefhatfield here. I will pray for you and your family. What a terrible situation you have described here.

So very sorry to hear about all the troubles you've had. I can't even imagine the string of misfortunes you've suffered recently. I feel just awful that the emac was (seemingly) taken. Your family just can't catch a break - besides being safe from the storm, that is.

HA, good luck with that. USPS won't do a damn thing for you. I once had a G5 lost and (as I discovered when it was finally found) destroyed in transit and they wouldn't even honor the insurance I had purchased from them.

BTTM, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I really hope things turn around for you because you deserve a spate of good luck. Let me know if there's anything I can do re: the emac.

I love how you need to do that now. :p

Shouldn't ever change your name unless you have a very distinctive avatar.

we had a lot of good, spirited debates in the past, politically, but when it comes to real big life issues, i want to let him know i am on his side

i wouldn't be surprised if in those political debates that i may have said some very unkind things to him, but all that means nothing in the big picture

What's that about lightning and striking twice? Glad your little angel is safe. That's all that really matters.

Reading about your hardship has brought a tear to my eye:( If i could, I would send you my iPod touch and I am not kidding. I really wish I could but I am only 15.

Wow, you guys must have really large shoulders to bear all this. Yes, my prayers are for you and your family. Take some comfort in the the fact that your daughter will probably forget this waaaay before you do.

Well we just got home today. Unreal. 3 day vacation turned into 14 days. $1,000 turned into almost $5,000 and I never knew how bad I could miss someone until now.

Madi hugged me for 15 minutes straight with us both crying.

The touches are gone, camera gone, life lessons learned.

eMac was found. Dead. But I am going to file insurance on it.

Who cares about the mac, right? Thank you so much for posting this update. I was thinking about you. Thanks for making all of us appreciate our families even more.

My sentiments exactly.

BTTM, I am glad you let us know how everything turned out and I am sorry everything took so long for you to get reunited.

Agree completely, mechanical things can be replaced, people you care for can't; the worry and what must have seemed to have been endless difficulties, hazards and sheer misfortune must have driven you demented with stress. I, too, thank you for posting this update as I had been thinking of you and hoping that you returned safely to your home despite all of the hardships and traumas you have endured in the past while. Glad you are all happily reunited safely. Good luck for the future and take care.
Cheers
