If you partial pay with a gift card balance on your account, can you still get the trade-in on a credit/debit card of your choosing?

Yup always trade in person that way you don't risky anything happening in shipping or getting a lower value. When you go to preorder on friday on the checkout screen you will be able to select the option for in store trade in or shipping.

Apple made it right, but the last time I sent a phone to them (iPhone X) they had it listed as an iPhone 8. They went down the rabbit hole and realized it happened to a lot of customers. I always do in person now.

When I preordered last year, I stated for in store pickup. The Apple Store app however glitched and shipped to my home address. I remember others having same issue also.

So if you pre-order and select trade-in as well as monthly installments (Citizens, not IUP), what then should you do during the order process? I was planning on picking up in person as I don't trust UPS so if I want to trade-in my old phone at the same time rather than mailing it in (which, to be fair, I've never personally had an issue with but have heard horror stories), should I not select a a trade-in and just show up with the old phone? Will that work toward crediting the monthly installments or is in-store trade-in not available for this type of payment? Thanks!

You have 14 days to trade in. Even if Apple sends you a trade in kit, you can still take your old phone into an Apple Store and do the trade in there.

Only you can answer if you wanna trade in on the same day. Perhaps the new iPhone has an issue…I like keeping my old iPhone for a day or so just to be sure the new iPhone is good to go before I initiate the trade in. If you are unfortunate enough to have a bad iPhone…it could be awhile to get a replacement because on launch day new iPhones can easily be 2-weeks or more in back order status.

Apple stores have extras just for that reason. Happened to me awhile back with 5S.

On my order confirmation email, it legit states my phone cannot be traded in at the store, is that truly the case?

I've seen that too. I ordered without a trade in with in store pickup. I am going to see if I can just trade it in in the store even though I didn't put a trade in on my order. I've done that with a Mac purchase successfully so we'll see next Friday

I did preorder with Verizon and selected option to drop off my trade in at my local Verizon store. Seems like a safer route since they can give me a receipt immediately that they received it.

That's why I selected no trade-in. I believe you can always trade in an Apple device at an Apple store and will get a gift card for the value.

Ditto. I didn’t want to risk mailing after my X got “lost in transit” when I got my 12. Hoping they will credit my credit card for the trade value when I pick up the new phone. But worst case scenario could we always process a return of the preorder and immediately repurchase it in store to get the credit in person?

I think the option of repurchase will depend on their stock level. If they have stock, probably can do that. I am hopeful that they can just process the trade in and credit my card since the purchase doesn't hit your card until you pick it up.

Do they only provide a gift card for the trade in value? Was hoping they would credit the value onto the payment method you used to purchase the new phone.

I have not done this with an iPhone, but I purchased a MacBook Pro for store pickup without a trade in, and the next day I took my old one in and they credited my debit card for the amount of trade. Hopefully they will do the same with an iPhone. My Mac was a launch day 14 Pro back in Oct 2021.

Not sure if I should change it to no trade in and hope for the best or leave it be. Don’t see why they would force you to mail the device back to them when they can easily just settle the trade in store. Hopefully it’s just bluff but ehh we shall see.

I suspect that they will not allow the trade in store if it has been set up for mail in. I tried this one time and they said their system would not allow them to change it. That was a while back so things may have changed.

I will also say that I have done mail in trade with several phones and watches and have never had an issue. Always got the max trade in value. I thought I'd try taking it into the store this time to see how it works. I am always a bit nervous about the mail in thing as you do risk the device getting lost or stolen in transit.

In most cases it can be done and all depends on how the sales rep handles it at the store but it can be done.

Same here in terms of mailing in until last year. Had a 13 Pro Max in pristine condition (case and screen protector). When they got my iPhone they told me it had a broken screen and bad pixels. I disputed it but they wouldn’t budge (offered me 1/4 original). I said mail it back to me.

Got it back and the iPhone was still in pristine condition!

So took it to Apple Store and got full trade in value and swore I’d never mail in again. Also did some searching on the issue and apparently what happened to me is a wide spread issue. It had never happened to me before until last year. So from now on I trade in the store.

I do this all the time. Buy iPhone via Apple any method you want (ship to home, pickup in store, in person walk in) and you can either bring your old iphone with you or bring it at a later time within 14 days and the amount will be credited back to the original form of payment.

When you order your phones, do you order it with a trade in ?

I've always heard that it's best to NOT order with a trade-in, as doing so triggers Apple to mail you a trade-in kit. I'm sure people have successfully circumvented that and got the trade done in-store. But there are quite a few stories of issues coming up when you try to trade in-store after choosing the mail-in option.

And I'm sure some of it has to do with the employees. Some may try to go the extra mile to figure something out, while others just won't want to deal with it (understandably).

I just looked at my order for in-store pickup and have the trade in box shipping to me. There's nothing at all in my order that says I can't bring the trade in to the store. Weird?
