Pre-Order for existing Verizon customers

They are not bringing over older models, just the iPhone 4 (and future models).

Glad to hear. I have a hotspot and I'm gonna add a second line for an iPhone. I like that the iPhone has a hotspot, but I might as well keep the old one. I can't have my internet get interrupted by taking a call.

He was saying hypothetically, he would settle for the 3G if he could get unlimited data + free wifi hotspot.

Would I be a complete n00b if I asked if wifi hotspot and tethering was the same thing? With the exception that wifi hotspot can support up to 5 devices.

They aren't exactly the same thing. A wifi hotspot makes the phone act just like a wifi router to which other wifi devices can connect (so everything would be controlled by the wifi setting on the computer). Tethering requires the computer to connect with the phone using special software (either bluetooth or usb), not through the wifi setting. Basically, wifi hotspot is a bit easier to use since you don't have to mess with any software but they are both means to the same end.

I haven't heard of the option to buy it outright being advertised yet. If and when it does, maybe apple will offer it the same way. I'm curious to see how soon the pre orders get filled. I however will not be able to pre order, I'll have to wait in line early AM at the Verizon store. It will be nice if they have a bunch of them and don't turn me away.

No. You will only be able to order starting the 3rd via Verizon's website. On Feb 10th you will be able to order from both Verizon/Apple in both online/retail.

Assuming that you will be able to place an online order on the 3rd :rolleyes: what is the expected delivery time of ordered product? Have I missed that?
Other big question, is a one year contract going to be in the mix?

They haven't said, but you should have it before on by the street release date. My guess is you'd get it a day or two before.

I thought about camping out, but I'd rather just have UPS/Fedex show up and be like "package" and inside is a shiny new iPhone ready for me to activate.

Plus I live in AZ. We don't do late night cold very well since it's in the 70's in the day (and 30-40's in the night).

agreed. i'd much rather just want to chill at home waiting for the fedex truck to drop by. its pretty awesome that verizon customers are get rewarded for loyalty by getting to preorder before others. when i talked to a customer service rep on the phone, they said there are enough iphones to meet initial demand. hopefully that is the case but ill take it with a grain of salt until i actually have the phone in my hands!

I spoke to a vz rep a few days ago. She informed me that current vz customers can order on the 3rd, get free overnight shipping, and activate their phone as soon as they get it or stop by vz store for help. I assume this would be the same case for non vz customers on the 10th

so verizon customers who preorder would get it on approx. the 5th!?

wow that would be awesome. i have a friend who works at verizon, maybe she knows something. ill have to bug her about it tomorrow

for some reason i was under the impression that verizon customers just got to preorder and then got it on the 10th when everyone else had to hope there were some left or camp out at a verizon. thats truely good to hear, im going crazy waiting for the 3rd to come

From the VerizonWireless/iPhone site

Get an iPhone 4 from our reserved quantity before
they're available to everyone else.

It sounds like they're saying if you pre-order yours will ship that week as a bonus for being a current VerizonWireless subscriber. Meaning if order is @ Midnight on the 3rd it hopefully will ship that same day and you'd get it either the next day (Friday) or Monday the 7th.

I went two years without a phone period waiting for the verizon iphone after my last one got stolen. I didn't want to spend money on any other phone or switch to AT&T because I had such a great experience with Verizon. It finally came and now it comes out exactly on my 18th birthday. it's like steve jobs himself gave me a birthday present :)

wow i wish i was that strong willed, i was with at&t at one point just so i could have the iphone, then i was forced to switch to verizon for a job. so it was either pay for at&t AND have a verizon phone which is paid for through my company, or cancel the at&t and save money. so now im rockin a droid x till feb. 3rd lol happy earthy birthday by the way, and iphone is a sweet present for yourself

I hear you on that :). I held on to my original droid and skipped all the droids that followed hoping for a vz iphone to come and now its finally here heh
 
I spoke with a floor rep in a Verizon store here in Portland, OR last week and asked specifically about the pre-order and delivery. He said that pre-orders would be shipped and he thought they would not be delivered by the 10th.

I will just be scouring their site and calling as many times as I need to as they announce the info. I'm going to just hope to hell the pre-orders will deliver before or on the 10th.

I would hope that they have been noting my comments after every call for the last couple of years.

V: "Is there anything else we can do for you today sir?"

Me: just bring the iPhone to Verizon as soon as you can. Desperately waiting for it here...

V: *chuckles* well, I don't have any information about that but we'll make a note...

Me: *hangs up longingly*

I will add that I just got off the phone with a Verizon rep who confirmed what I was told in-store:

Verizon customers can pre-order the phone online. It will then SHIP on the 10th. There is no pick-up option for the pre-order. As of this time, they know of no option that will put an iPhone in your hands prior to the 10th.

All the pre-order does is guarantee that you will get one first wave.
