Hey guys. I haven't pre-ordered an iPhone since the 5 so I'm rusty on how this whole thing goes down, but I know it's usually chaos!

I currently have a 6S on the Next program or whatever AT&T calls it. I'm going to keep this phone and give it to a family member who's on the same plan.

I plan on buying the iPhone 8 full price. I'm going to pre-order as soon as it goes live. I'm assuming Apple's website is my best bet and not AT&T's website?

Also what information will I need when purchasing? As in, I'm assuming I'll have to log into my AT&T account through Apple's website and continue from there, but will I be required to choose a plan or anything weird? Or will I just sign it, confirm what line the phone will be used on, and continue from there?

Just trying to cover my bases as I don't want any surprises when I'm rushing to put the order in half-asleep at 3AM. Lol.

Thank you..

If you're using Apple's site you'll need your Apple ID to login and refresh constantly at 11:59pm. When purchasing you'll need to select your carrier and plan. That's about it. Expect massive slowdown, refreshing, and shipping to be a month or two out from launch day due to high demand.

If I were you I'd set up Apple Pay, it's a lot quicker when checking out. At the moment we don't know the demand for the iPhone 8 as it's due to be more expensive, this probably won't put people off (despite what people on this forum say) but nothing is 100% known at this point.

Use the Apple Store app, not the website. It seems that last year more folks had success with the app than the website (I used the website and it didn't even go live until several minutes after midnight; the app apparently went live right on time). You'll still need all the same info though.

generally the Apple Store iOS app has been more stable and successful than logging into the web.

I’d also recommend adding your selected colour/storage combination to your Favourites in advance of the store going down before preorders open

I was at my carrier yesterday. And I posed questions about Preordering the OLED Model. The representative smiled and said, "We average about 50-75 calls a day, and everyone of them are about the OLED model availability and not the rumored 7s." Just a small Measurement, but it indicates slightly how the OLED will be sought after this launch.

It will be very interesting to see if the majority of people are willing to spend the rumoured price tag of the iPhone 8/Edition.

How to add the favourite of a product not available in the A Store ? Do you mean that the iP8 will be available in the store before the preorders open, right? In that case would it be possible to already add the configuration as favourite ?

It's added to the store after they announce it, which is a few days before pre-orders open.

Yes, the product configurations will appear after the keynote on Tuesday so you have until Friday to make your selection assuming that’s when preorders go live

Who pays full price? You end up turning it in next year for the new model anyway. I believe all 4 of the large carriers have annual upgrade plans now.

Some consumers people pay full retail because they want to take advantage of actually owning the phone, when you make monthly installed payments, you don't physically own the phone. And, it gives the benefit for those who want to resell the phone later On at their leisure whenever they desire, because they're are not making payments on it where they are limited with what they can do with the device.

I pay full price buying my iPhone's outright from Apple unlocked on pre-order day. I'm not on contract I put a pay as you go SIM card in which is cheaper than a monthly contract and I don't have to sign up to anything for 24 months, I can upgrade every year if I want and simply sell the current iPhone without having to sign a new contract.

I pay full price then sell before the next one comes out. I pay as much as or less than those paying monthly I'm guessing. Plus I'm not at the mercy of a carrier if I decide to switch to someone else.

I do exactly the commentator noted above and what is said is correct. It also signifies we do truly can afford it outright.

Excellent comment!!

Paying monthly on my 256gb iPhone 7+ I've spent a total of $400 since launch day. I'm not worried about the carrier either since all 4 have buy out your contract programs. If you upgrade annually it's the cheaper option. Now if you keep your phone for years on end then, yeah I can see buying it out right is more beneficial.

Just my opinion though. To each their own.

You paid 400 in a year. You could sell for $650 on Swappa approximately if you purchased outright. Seems like a wash to me?

Well the 256gb version is $1000 outright so not really a wash. And the new one is even more so eh.

You won't be able to add anything until it goes live after the store shuts down. You will only be able to look at all the configurations and dream beforehand.

It'll definitely put people off... but supply still most likely won't meet demand.

This. Never bought an iPhone any other way than outright.
