Wake me up when a single android phone gets close to the iphone's popularity.
1 phone, not 134 different models released against 1 release per year.

I don't know about popular but I've been seeing mentions of Samsung's SIII now outselling the iphone...

So.. yeah, there's your one phone (and no, I'm not an adroid fangirl, much closer to an apple fangirl. I just try to stay a mostly objective apple fangirl ;) ).

You missed my post #19 earlier on this thread.:D
The iPhone 5 will kill off any competition including the SIII sales that for one month topped the iphone 4S.
You can take that to the bank;)

Yeah, I saw that afterwards. And we shall see (I don't like saying for sure and I don't know, it seems this year people aren't as excited and do have more complaints than last year. Or rather it does seem more people at least on this forum are more willing to go to Android).

In the end, all I really care is that Apple is able to attract the third party developers. Even if they "lose", long as they still have good support from them, that is what is important to me (Cause i don't like Windows phone 7 and I don't trust Google enough to put all my eggs in their basket and in the end I prefer the iphone so I'd hate to have to switch to something else but really, without third party support, the phone won't be so good. And I'm particularly interested in the games that get attracted to the iphone).

Depends how fast you preorder.
If you preorder it on the first few days most likelly you will get it on release date.
If you order it a week or more after the preorders were available then you will be behind on the wait list and might have to wait till a later shipment to arrive.
Some times carriers sites run out of preorders and give you expected ship dates a week or more after release day.
I'm really unsure which pre order method to do. I've never had to before. Could you please tell me if pre ordering would be better to go into an at&t store and do it or go online to apple or att.com? Thank you for any help.

I agree with what you say.
Competition is always good.

My guess is you will get it faster if you preorder online.
If you go to a store then its up to them when they're going to enter it in the system or what they decide to do with your preorder.
Give it to you first day or give the first stock people waiting in line or let your preorder wait another week?

Wow, that's one dedicated business owner right there:D
So in the end he didnt get an iphone? He just waited to get in the mall before anyone else?

No, he never got an iPhone 4 lol. I believe that was his main reason. Everyone was starting to get frustrated with him as the night went on because he worked his way from like 20th person in line up to the front door. People were telling the security guard that he wasn't there for a phone and that they needed to kick him off the property.

Yeah, I remember for several products that I didn't preorder and wanted on launch, it took 1-2 weeks because each time I'd call when the store opened or visit, they'd be sold out since the people would line up daily. This will likely be the same thing, especially with how close it's getting to holidays (holidays equal crazy consumerism craziness). I don't wanna go through that again in the cold winter weather!

I can't imagine anything being more efficient than online and direct-ship fulfillment. And, no one-per-customer limits!

You can preorder for pickup in-store right? Do AT&T stores do that too? Just curious. I don't remember.

I will most likely be up anyway lol, just nervous they will run out before I get my order in.

Yea, because you wouldn't want to wait another day! God forbid.

It normally takes a day or two for preorders to run out if you wake up on time you will be fine. I expect the new iPhone to have less demand this time round.

OMG, that's heracy on this board!!

If you're gonna troll, at least spell heresy right.

Spoken like a true troll, correcting spelling and everything.

Though everyone should know by now that even if Apple puts out a middling product like the 4S, it will be huge, it will be the biggest yet, and it will likely be as big as all other big releases put together.

That said, this is a total ground-up redesign, despite visual similarities, so I would never call the iPhone 5 a middling product. With LTE and the new thinness and a screen size increase, I think Apple will be ticking almost everyone's boxes of their wishlist.

Plus, we're close to the holiday season.

Altogether, I think it's gonna be huge. Waiting in lines for stores to open for weeks after release huge.

I think i5 supplies will be plentiful.

I'm sure Apple will make sure they are in short supply, but it won't be anywhere near as bad as previous years IMO.

The reason for this, is that Tim Cook is a supply chain & logistics guru and it's no coincidence that iPad 3 supplies were at much better levels at launch.

It was his first product launch since taking over as CEO and I'm sure his vision for launch day supplies was put in place long before he took over at the top.

Apple will make sure that supply will outstrip demand-what good is an Apple product launch if anyone can just casually breeze in and buy one right?

But that shortfall will be much less than previous years IMO.

Yes there will be overnight queues (some of it sponsored by the likes of Otterbox et al), there will be wooping, hollering, pushing, shoving, scalpers, a lot of high five-ing, but what's important (to Apple) is that there will be heaps (and heaps) of publicity, showing people queueing for the latest, greatest Apple product.

The SGSIII just overtook the iPhone in sales in the US. That's today and I expect the iPhone to take number 1 after the new iPhone. All I said was the iPhone isn't THAT difficult to get on launch day and perhaps some sales may be lost to android. That is all. I would be happy if the new iPhone was successful and all I've said is my opinion. Nothing more.

Yeah, haha. Most people here don't understand that you don't have to be a fanboy and can sit in the middle buying whatever device is best for you and you don't have to buy the day something comes out.

So I'm thinking or preordering from Apple (this is my first iPhone release purchase).

I have unlimited data through ATT...will that be affected if I preorder through Apple?

It was his first product launch since taking over as CEO and I'm sure his vision for launch day supplies was put in place long before he took over at the top.

Cook was COO before he became CEO of Apple. Supply has been his job since 1998. He was just as responsible for iPhone 4 supplies as he will be for the iPhone 5.

Fair enough, I didn't know that, but presumably now, he has the final say in supply levels?

and what if we don't preorder?? The 4S didn't need to be preordered, at least in my case, all of the surrounding stores had them in stock the day of release and didn't run out. I'm curious if this will happen again, as I would rather just go pick one up.

I suppose, but I doubt Steve was telling him, "Sorry Tim, but I think we're building enough." It has more to do with having more suppliers and starting production sooner (that's why we have more leaks than ever now with the iPhone 5.)

I'm definitely pre-ordering. Once I do that, just sit back and wait until it ends up on my doorstep. :D

So much better than sitting on a crappy folding chair holding up concrete and asking others to hold your spot while you pee. Then once you get in the store, having to deal with it being packed and end up being groped by some greasy hairy guy behind you. Ehhh, no thanks.

I think if anyone pre-orders during the first couple of days, they're bound to get it by the release date.

Heres to pre-ordering and hope everything goes smoothly! :D

Wow, a brand new cellphone is outselling for a month the iphone 4S that came out what 11 months ago? Is that really a comparison?
Everyone knows the next iphone is coming very soon and waiting for the iphone 5.
Wake me up when the GS3 sells anywhere near as many units as the iphone did in a whole year.
Not in a single month where the 4S is old and ready to be replaced with a new iphone.
I will take a bet that the next iphone will sell just as good and maybe better than the previous iphone and its not just an iphone 4.
We dont even know for sure what it is yet, but it does have some nice rumored upgrades from the 4S. LTE and bigger screen are on the top of my list.

Oh the fanboyism....

So basically the same iPhone? Those two things are the only things on anyone's list. Taller screen doesn't do anything for anyone. I mean, another row of apps and you can see more tweets....great I guess. There hasn't been a great iPhone since the 4 and it looks like this one might just follow suit.

Do u think it's going to be hard to Pre order on the first day? I am worried about the site crashing for hours at a time.

You should expect store.apple.com to re-open for preorders, then within a minute or two go down again for an indeterminate time at which point you, me, and everyone else on the planet procede to rapidly and repeatedly refresh the site on every device we own.
