Pre-ordering from carrier, Apple, or store-walk in?

they dont have an apple store in my country, but from 19-22nd i will be in australia where they do. if i pre order for collection on the 12th (dont mind waking up early to do so) is there any way of knowing WHEN i can pick up? will it be on release day? obviously im only in the country for a few days so need to be sure i can get it! so basically, if you preorder on the 12th, is it available for collection on the 19th - and do you still need to wait in line?

What do you guys do? What's most reliable? I feel like if I pre-order from Sprint I won't get my phone on launch day, but if I order from Apple, I will. I don't know why, I just have that feeling.

Walking into a store on launch day I just feel like I won't get a phone and they'll all be bought already.

Pre-order from Apple... T-mobile site was a nightmare last time.

You can still pre-order, at full price most likely.

I'm in the same boat with Sprint, but I'm using my Grandpa's upgrade.

Had no problem preordering from Verizon last year. Paid full price. If I remember last year, if paying full price, there was no way to initially do that from Apple for Verizon or AT&T. It forced you to upgrade and change your contract. I have unlimited, so Verizon website was only way to do it.

Is there way to order from verizon website without their service?
