Best acceptance speech: Luke Matheny (for Best Live Action Short Film "God of Love")

Best host: Anne Hathaway (not quite as dull as James Franco). I bet they'll go back to comedians next year.

Best and worst dresses: Halle Berry and Nicole Kidman (still being debated)

and yet again doctorq proves nearly unbeatable

that said i was somehow undecided of how many oscar i would give inception and decided against giving them the sound awards and went for music instead ... that ruined my score quite a bit
(actually i just watched Inception the second time just a few hours earlier yesterday and honestly i was surprised how well it held up and actually is more enjoyable the second time around)

for the show itself: bland and boring to no end, very predictable results in many categories: only surprises to me really were art direction and costume design for alice in wonderland... honestly in another year that would have never been oscar worthy
christian bale: considering the roles he didn't get an oscar for, i already had him signed up for a the lifetime achievement oscar in 2040 pulling an alec guiness

and for the hosts: the worst ones as far as i remember. james franco an actor i quite like but miss-cast as a host. And Hathaway just never lets down with her underwhelming performances, just like in every single movie i have seen with her
i'm already not looking forward to her playing catwoman

takao: These hosts weren't as bad as David Letterman was as host. Having a comedian isn't always a panacea.

Most obvious award: Toy Story 3 for Best Animated Feature Film. Since it was the only animated film nominated for Best Picture, it necessarily has to be the best animated picture. Then again, must the Academy voters always be logical?

Melissa Leo acted like she was surprised that she won for Best Supporting Actress. She shouldn't have been. She was a front-runner, had won the Golden Globe, SAG award, and Critics Choice award, and was part of a huge marketing campaign, including Hollywood trade ads she placed herself.

Most awkward moment: Christian Bale seeming to forget his wife's name (Sandra or "Sibi") and his daughter's name (Emme). He didn't name them at the Golden Globe awards either.

Random fact: You might not think so, but The King's Speech is the first film about a British monarch to win for Best Picture.

Best quote after the show, by Lee Unkrich, director of Toy Story 3: "When John Lasseter asked me to direct this movie, I was completely flattered, but I wanted to throw up."

Tallies by movie:
Inception: 4 Oscars (out of 8 nominations)
The King's Speech: 4 Oscars (out of 12 nominations)

The Social Network: 3 Oscars (out of 8 nominations)

Alice in Wonderland: 2 Oscars (out of 3 nominations)
Toy Story 3: 2 Oscars (out of 5 nominations)
The Fighter: 2 Oscars (out of 7 nominations)

127 Hours: 0 Oscars (out of 6 nominations)
True Grit: 0 Oscars (out of 10 nominations)

Best host: Anne Hathaway (not quite as dull as James Franco).

I laughed when Franco said "congratulations nerds!" after the technical award segment. Justin Timberlake kinda ripped on Kirk Douglas which was funny too.

best part: When Christian Gale forgot his wife's name

worst part: Kirk Douglas

true non comedians have pulled off great shows in the past (Hugh Jackman was quite a surprised)
but IMHO it is always more of a gamble

that's why in my opinion they should drop that category for good. let's face it: studios which aren't Pixar or Dreamworks have zero chance to win (the academy has a clear bias for those studios), let them compete in the best movie category whenin the past there were plenty of movies capable of winning but didn't because they academy wouldn't give an animated movie 2 awards
in the score and song category they are always good for victories anyway

really ? didn't expect that ... but it never stopped "english historic-times movies" to get the reputation of obvious oscar-bait (especially for lead and supporting actor roles)
the academy simply love english movies about historic characters

obviously getting handed the biggest pixar franchise is quite some pressure i suppose
in my opinion the time is way overdue to give an animated movie the best picture award and toy story 3 would have been worthy of that (just like 'Finding Nemo' was IMHO) ... the kings speech was an obvious "old holywood" safe bet: very classical made movie but who will remember it in 10 years or 20 ?
